Am I the only one annoyed by the "free upgrade" happening?

If the values are so over booked, why doesn't Disney actually finish building Pop? There are large overgrown sections rotting in the sun... :confused3

MG

Well considering it might be overbooked for "free dining" might not be a good reason to finish it. Now if it's overbooked at other times also perhaps they should.

Free upgrades don't really bother me .....but the free dining could at east be 1/2 off for DVCers at that time... l:goodvibes

rumor has it that the annoucement will happen this Aug.

first of all as I said in one of the resort boards.

this couldn't happened without marketing. It is to get guest to consider DVC.

It happened at Pop because of the variety of people who stay at Pop.

Last year I think it was Pop and ASMo.

Anyone who doesn't think it is marketing....

the other times when any of the values are overbooked - they just send you to another value. then they go to moderates. Not to DVC.

this to me means marketing.

some people were trying to say that WDW was completely booked for that weekend - folks this is labor day week - not July 4, Christmas, Easter or several others where that could be a possible.

Good Point. In addition to free dining, isn't there a promotion aimed at families with preschool children at this time? If so, I think that would be consistent with your marketing hypothesis because the upgrades to DVC could be given to families with children, including preschoolers.

I actually have the same hypothesis. My guess is that Disney gets a higher number of members from the Value resort category than the moderates or deluxes. That's why the POP folks are being upgraded instead of the CBR people. Disney is a smart company.

Robin, didn't your poll suggest the majority are from the deluxes? :smokin:

:thumbsup2

Lots of free upgrades extended (got to the point where most people booked standard rooms @ AK & got mad when they didn't snag a SV or @ least a pool view). How about the various pin codes, supposedly exclusive to those who were targeted via a postcard; lots crowing on the boards about sweet talking theirselves into the 40% discount; even if they didn't get the offer. To my great shame, i did call & ask - no soup for me:rotfl: . It was enough to push me to the brink; only way to keep what was left of my sanity was to distance myself from the fray and be thankful that I do have DVC:cloud9: .

Don't forget the DP is tied into a tix purchase; i'm still thrilled the perc was offered to us staying on points w/no strings.

DVC/WDW has their reasons for offering the upgrades, not sure of the big picture here. It does make you wonder as to whether they over looked that the members may not be thrilled; or perhaps they don't really care - assumming we're already "sold". Sure hope this merits mention @ the membership meeting.

The "free" DP was originally designed to fill the resorts after several bad storms. If the occupancy rebounds i'll bet the house that it is discontinued or shortened dramatically; probably only @ the pricer resorts.

WOW ... we have struck a cord here, I can understand the feelings many of you are having, after all I drive a certain car and live in a certain neighborhood, because I like nice things!!

That being said, I am "one of those people" I am part of a grand gathering that was upgraded to SSR. This trip would have been my first to a Value, I was a little nervous that I would not like the atmosphere there... but now I AM EXCITED!! I have thought of purchasing a DVC in the past and this just my convince me to do so.

The only part of the ranting I can not agree with is when I read about "those types of people" that would be staying in your resort ... I can assure you we are a very nice bunch from New York and have visited Disney MANY times in the past (most recently for Thanksgiving) and we are overjoyed to be staying at SSR and will treat it with the utmost repect.

I think you should all be eligible for free dining and mouskeeping daily, after all you are the guarantee that Disney has becuase they know you will be there each and every year !!

Is the rumor that Pop will get finished?
I hope so! I've never stayed at Pop, but it's sad to see any Disney Resort rot away... :sad2:

MG

yes - sorry I didn't make it clear.

Pop is to be finished - the annoucement will be in Aug to Sept - at least that is the current rumor.

that say - Pop may not go to the family suites - which was the other rumor, but stay single rooms. this to me is a bad decision. WDW has a demand for the suites.

With that being said, I would ask members posting to this thread not to lump the people getting the upgrades into "the people that stay at values" as if they are less-than-desireable...because I am one of them (as well as many other DVC owners). Honestly, some people are insinuating OKW/SSR will be taken over by the Clampetts (of Beverly Hillbillies fame). Many of the people staying at value resorts could choose any resort category they want without it being a hardship. It's just a matter of what their particular vacation priorities are.

I am not a Clampett. I have stayed at the GF, WL(5X), Poly, Swan, CBR and yes even OKW(2bedroom, it was amazing) I could have chose to stay anywhere but is is a mom and kids week and we chose to budget. We are so happy with the upgrade. I could not fuctional all day after recieving it. We will not be drinking and having loud parties or smoking on balconies. We are going to enjoy our good fortune. Please dont flame us, we were just granted a disney dream.

Thank you on both counts! :goodvibes I certainly hope that our beloved homes will be treated well by all who attend. If everyone has your attitude, it will be wonderful!

Also, even though I know it will never happen, thanks for your other comments about DDP and mousekeeping. You are right...DVCers are the faithful...guaranteed to keep coming bac. You would think that Disney would want to keep us happy. Some here feel that now that Disney has our $$ they don't have to cater to us. I certainly hope that is not the line of thought. I have always been treated amazingly well while staying at DVC.

Have a fabulous trip!

Um ... I don't remember! Ha, ha!

ETA: Nevermind. The poll was Deluxe followed by Moderate and then Values.

Robin, your poll asked for which category people stayed at the most, pre-DVC. I wonder if the answers might be different if the question asked for the last one people stayed in, before buying DVC?

In our case, since we've been going to WDW since 1978, the majority of our stays were at deluxes, but the one we were at when we bought DVC was ASMu (needed 2 rooms by then and the deluxes were too much $$ for both).

We had a nice family vacation but DH didn't want to stay at values once he saw the BWV models. ( Him, :snooty: ? :rolleyes1 )

Ok, I hope I am making the right decision to post here. I was one of the lucky ones able to upgrade. I was not part of a group that one family out of 4 or 5 got a pin code. I understand how you feel, I would be upset also. I do feel like some are taking advantage of the situation, I even got an email asking me to say that this family was part of a grand gathering with me, (I didnt do it.)

DH and I had decided to take a week for my birthday and go to Disney. I was excited to be able to spend a week with my husband at Disney, I didnt care about where so we booked ASMo. I had told DH that when we went I wanted to look into DVC, and he agreed to look into it. I feel like that this "magic" that was given to us will actually help me get him to buy. I hope to have a great trip and I hope to be a member when I come back if not then hopefully soon, and this is what I think Disney had in mind

SSR is an amazing resort for an adult-only trip! Have a wonderful time!

And a huge THANK YOU for not deceiving Disney in order to get your upgrade. :goodvibes

Value resorts aren't booked up, they are still available at full price.

But they are advertising hard and it is only the beginning of summer. They are counting on a lot of last-minute bookings from folks wanting to take advantage of free dining...and they know that the last 2 weeks of August will be more popular than Sept. as much of the country does not go back until after Labor Day.

So, they just want to make sure they can accommodate these late-planning folks.

I am sitting here just so upset now. I was given the upgrade. I was so excited and so wanted to learn all I could about this wonderful resort I was going to get to stay in. I did not realize that me and my two kids staying at this resort was causing others who belonged to not get the vacation they wanted. I thought I was just being offered by Disney a room that they owned and was willing to give me a good deal on. Honestly I could never afford a vacation like this in a million years and was so happy. Now I kinda feel like white trash moving in and lowering property values. Do I need to honestly worry about being snubbed while I am there? Should I not wear my DIS gear in fear that a DVC owner will recognize me and be mad that I am at their resort. I guess I felt the only one taking a loss here was Disney and that they really weren't since they were filling there empty rooms to fee up rooms at a value that they could now resell. Please understand this was truly going to be a dream come true for us and now I am not so sure. It seems I even read a post from some one here that stated we non DVC people need to go back to our own boards. I do not want to stay someplace I am not welcomed just because luck got me there nor do I want to feel segregated when I get there. I can understand being jealous, it was a few days before I found out I was eligible for this and boy was I jealous. I just don't understand being angry because some one got a great gift.

Don't let people bother you, or deter you from what is a dream vacation for you and your family! I am a SSR and AKV DVC member, and before I purchased, I stayed at values...I could afford to buy a room at the deluxe and DVC resorts, but refused to pay that price when we were in the room for a very small amount of time! I enjoy the values, and would stay there again...I considered booking labor day weekend for a value resort, but a girlfriend of mine is coming to town, so I passed! But, I wish you a magical vacation...Not all DVC members are unfriendly! Make the most of your vacation with your family, and don't worry about anyone else! Where did you get upgraded...I have stayed at both SSr and OKW...If you have any questions, I will try to answer for you!
