Am I the only one who thinks that Disney is raising their prices to high for even a mid income person to afford.........I just booked 3 nights at POFQ for Feb. and even with a AAA discount it is almost $200.00 a night! Looks like this Deluxe girl who then went Moderate will now be a value person. I just doesn't make sense to me the way the economy is going that they will continue to book rooms as they did this year. and quite frankly for $200.00 a night for a moderate room seems way out of line to me.

Is that price with dining or possibly park passes. That just doesn't sound right. We are booked 1/30-2/6 at WL with AP discount for $215.16 per night tax included.

That is for room only, no AP rates available or FL resident available as of yet, so I did the AAA. It does not include tickets or dining, if you look on the WDW site the rooms start at $215.00 during that time and AK was over $300.00 I can't believe how much they have jumped from this year, I paid $133.00 aaa in October.

You are going doing Spring Break.

Go earlier - the beginning of Feb - before Spring break starts is $149 per night - standard room

or go late April

Sounds like you're trying to book around Presidents' Day weekend. The rates go up in mid-Feb and stay high through Easter.

I checked AAA prices for POFQ for the first weekend of January and they were $119.20/Standard and $132/water view. I think that's acceptable.

Sorry, I meant AAA rate. AP rates aren't out yet for Jan.

I totally agree.....
This last change in rates for 2008..... just put us in Values too!!:confused3
It used to be you could get some kind of break on something..... whether it was for the tickets or the room....
Now... the only break I can get is on airfare... but that has nothing to do with Disney since I get that on my own.
People just can't afford the cost of a 5 or 6 day trip.
Ticket prices have gone way too high for anything less than 5 days.
and to have to pay so much more for a room just to be there on the weekends!!!
I know the arguement will be.... most other resorts have a different cost between weekdays and weekends....
But if you look at where Disney really makes thier money... food, souvineers, etc. There needs to be a break somewhere!
There is a "captured audience" so to speak. Other resort locations don't have that!!

Oh yea, that is "acceptable",
but how many weeks in the year are considered "value" and would be "acceptable"?? and how many people are available to go then? That is one weekend.
That is almost like saying it is "acceptable" to charge half price to an outdoor water park in Minnisota in February!! :scared1:

We are going during the same timeframe and was shocked when my first quote @ POP was $134/nt (before taxes!). We were able to use a pincode that brought it down to $99 -- which is about what rack rate was during our last visit.

Yep, they raised room rates, ticket prices, and meal costs and are really riding high on the YOAMD promo but at some point a lot of people are going to realize the overall increase in the price of their family vacation is not worth the limit opportunities to win any of the prizes.

I would also guess the OP is going during Valentine's weekend, or another holiday weekend.
I think budget minded guests will be back to planning their trips around value times. Holiday weekends rates make a lot of differnce from what little I have read here in the Dis. Any holiday is a popular time to stay at WDW. And those who do, pay more now in the room rates to do so.

It's the time of year your going. We are going in Jan and staying at a mod (CBR in a preferred location upgrade) and it is less than $150 w/tax and w/AAA discount per night. Since our trip in Jan of this year, we've decided that that is the only time of year we want to go from now, obviously not all families can do that. We had WL orginally and then decided to go with a mod after DH had hand surgery in Aug...but deluxe during value season is the way for us. Maybe a bigger discount than AAA is giving you will come along and save you more :)

I agree with you %100. Seems like the averge family would have to take out a second mortgage for the trip to DW woth a few kids. I did book concierge at BWI and 5 nights was $3481.10 that is with a 5 day park hopper pass. I am holding it for now till I see when the codes come out, if I cant get any I book another hotel, probably outside of DW. :)

Actually, according to Disney's site, these weeks are value weeks:
(1/1 - 2/13)
(8/3 - 10/1)
(11/30 - 12/18)

That's roughly six weeks in winter, eight in late summer/early autumn and almost three weeks in late autumn. Almost seventeen weeks, or almost one-third of the year!

I planned for a week in early Feb. I get light crowds, cool weather and discount prices, so I am happy to accept that.

I am happy for you!:thumbsup2
But my point is....... how many people can go at those times.....
1/1 - 2/13...... middle of winter/school year (most people don't want to ride Splash Mtn or Kali when it's 60 degrees... or colder! ), weather may be cooler.... but to folks like me... too cool to be at WDW which is mostly ourdoors! and..... just after the holidays (who has money then?)
8/3 - 10/1....... beginning of the school year! Great time if you have NO kids.
11/30 - 12/18..... Before the holidays!.... most people have to think about using their $$ for Christmas.... and visiting family... oh... and my main reason for NOT being able to go at this time.... I work in RETAIL!! those "black out" days!
The parks aren't crowded then because most people aren't available to take vacations then! :confused3

Well that would explain why almost every single room is booked for when I want to go (well plus Pop warner). :sad1:
I agree though, that the prices of some of the resorts is ridiculously high, but apparently it's not affecting Disney because they are all packed including ALL the deluxe resorts, which I found pretty surprising, guess a lot of people got codes or somethin'. :confused3

The U.S. dollar is almost 15% weaker versus the Euro since this time last year. That make U.S. travel a good deal for Europeans. Even if Disney raised rates by 15% it would be like no price increase for them. On the flip side, as a U.S. resident, a trip to Disneyland in Paris right now would be cost prohibitive.

I agree that it is ridiculous how much you have to pay for a trip to WDW. We are going at the end of January, and I had to book the POP to bring my total vacation within a reasonable budget. I really hope I don't regret it with 2 young kids, ages 5 and 1. Anyway, I think that the POP is not bad on a AAA rate of $65/night. I agree that the other hotels (moderate and up) are ridiculously overpriced. But, what gets me is the park passes. I can't believe how expensive these have gotten. I feel that they really can't go much higher than this. In addition, they REALLY sock it to you with the food prices. How ridiculous!!!! I am currently still trying to get a decent price on airfare, but I have a feeling I should just book now because I doubt gas prices (thus airline prices) will go down anytime soon.
