Am I solely to blame? FB sale gone wrong

I think it was up to the buyer to look at the specs of the computer and know what they would be able to do with it. It isn't your problem if they didn't do their homework. I would not offer a refund, the computer has been in her hands way to long for you to want it back, who knows what has been done with it. You sold an older computer and whoever bought it should have realized it wasn't going to do much.

What you sold seemed to me like it was well represented and the buyer was the one who made the mistake. I do not think you have to let her return for refund. It works. It was her error and these kinds of sales are usually final, IMO.

Her family members should not be harassing you. However, it makes perfect sense that they would not discover the problem until after the present was opened. And I can't see any way you would expect a reply in 45 minutes or four hours. Not everyone checks messages constantly and it sounds like this lady is not tech savvy, so she may check even less than the norm.

Like I said she saw it within 2 minutes. Also I'm not tech savvy either. And her family members blew up my phone when I didn't respond in 30 seconds...

OP, I've bought and sold a lot on different FB sale groups over the past few years. I'm talking everything from big pieces of furniture, appliances, sports equipment, and I've never had anyone's family members contact me and harass me. You have every right to follow whatever rules about blocking that you are comfortable with, and unless the group's admin has a set of rules that forbid it, then I'd not worry at all. I would be furious if some random strangers started trolling me, and I sure wouldn't be trying to engage with whoever bought the darn laptop to begin with. They bought it, chose not to test drive it before money passed, and the minute they handed over the cash, your responsibilities ended. You aren't Nordstroms or Target, for craps sakes. I hope you kept the messages that the crazies were sending you, and I'd forward them immediately to the group's admin. I'd also send one final message to the lady that bought the computer and tell her to call her dogs off. I would not offer a refund, I would not engage anymore. Don't let the sad daughter story upset you. It's not your responsibility!

OP here.
I believe that I will give the buyer 48 hours and then if she has not responded I will send this message...

It has been 48 hours since I sent my previous message. I also saw that you saw it within just a couple of minutes of me sending it.

I believe that is an adequate amount of time to wait for a response.

You have made zero attempt in that 48 hours to message me which indicates to me that no further discussion is needed and the matter is now closed.

I respectfully request that you do not contact me in the future and ask your family/friends to refrain from messaging me and/or mentioning me in Facebook posts.

Thank you.

I wouldn't do that. If you don't here from her, let it go.
And if she contacts me next week or a month from now? I feel like I should have some kind of written response that concludes the discussion so she doesn't think she can message me down the road or should I leave it up for debate indefinitely?

Although I do suppose that if I leave it open ended and she goes a month without contacting me and then all the sudden she wants her money back I could show proof that she did not think it was important enough to contact me for that long.

Then ignore her at that point. Don't poke the bear if you don't need to by reaching out again now.

Contacting admin is not an option.
There are 6 of them and they all jumped ship once the group became too big and too many people were having petty problems.
They have not monitored the group in probably 18 months.
The group has 50,000 members at this point and even though it was supposed to be for the county I live in there are mostly members from outside of the county I live in.
This buyer lives an hour away not in the same community nor in the same county as I do.

I am a member of a few smaller groups where the admin have to approve all posts which means that it often takes weeks for your post to show publicly which is the reason I also post in the giant group because there's much more traffic and opportunity to sell.

I have a hard time believing a group that big doesn't have any admin. There has to be someone running the group.

Don't respond with the above. Don't respond at all. Become a black hole.

OP- if you continue to sell with the large group that doesn't have active admin I would create a fake FB account and only use that for selling/buying. I am part of a couple of the buy/sell pages around here and the admins monitor them very closely. There are still a couple of people that use aliases-- even some of the admins.

As for this current situation, I wouldn't contact the person anymore. You've tried. What you had in your post was exactly as the product was. The person didn't understand what she needed. Not your problem weeks later and who knows how the computer was handled. If you gave her a refund and took the computer back I would bet it would not be operational at all.

Be advised, I wouldn't buy anything from anyone that had a fake account nor would I be pretty leary of anyone blocked me as soon as I bought something from them that would make me report to the group asap.

Sorry OP, but you seem hell bent intent on keeping something going with this lady. I don't get it. Now it's like you are starting to troll her! It's like you are intentionally trying to keep some drama going on with the whole thing. It's not like this was some special thing that you did by posting a used laptop online for sale. You sold something on a FB sale group. You did something that millions of people do on a daily basis through FB groups, Craigslist, newspaper ads, and so on. You are starting to come across like a drama queen yourself, carrying on about needing proof of correspondence, lol. Move on! I'm not trying to be mean, but worrying about someone coming after you over $150 is a complete waste of your mental energy.

What?
More people started harassing me so I sent one message and have had no further contact so how am I trolling her or starting anything?

If the complainers have ceased complaining, then even if the purchaser doesn't respond to your post, it's over. If I were the seller of this item, although I wouldn't be thrilled about it, I'd be offering the buyer a refund. Just to make all this stop--unless it has stopped, in which case, forget about it and move on.

Well, she hasn't responded and you said you were going to message her again. She saw your message almost immediately, didn't respond, so she obviously has moved on herself. If I were the buyer, and you kept messaging me, I'd be annoyed. The best way to get her family to stop contacting you is to stop trying to contact her and ignore them. Since you say there is no group admin to report to, then everyone on the group is on their own.
