On Friday, DD (11) mentioned to DH and I that she would like to make a fairly brave fashion statement~ To dye the tips of her hair bright blue. We decided to let her go for it. (You have to get these things out of your system while youre still young right?) So when the beauty supply shop opens this morn, we are going to get a packet of bleach and developer (unless we get a kit) and some manic panic (her color choice) Am I nuts for letting my 11 yr old do this?

Nope, not nuts. My mom was a teacher for over 25 years, and always said to me, that she told her parents, "If the worst they do is dye their hair crazy colors, and do multiple ear piercings, you are doing JUST FINE"

Hair color will eventually grow out. I say bravo to you guys for letting her do this.

I don't think you are crazy. I would just do the tips just in case she doesn't like it , it won't be much to get cut off. Also, is manic panic permenant? See how many washes it lasts, because if it is thirty, then she will have white tips instead of blue. Good Luck, you're a cool mom for letting her do this!

A few months back my two boys wanted to color their hair, my then 12 y.o. did the Bling Bling gold. It's the ICE METALLIX colored styling glue, which washes right out. My 11 y.o. did Shocking Blue (or some such name.)

They used it about 3 times....then they were done with it.

LOL, you aren't nuts. You are letting your daughter be creative with something that doesn't matter and isn't permanent.

The worst my ds (14) did was put some blonde in his brown hair, I think it looked great!

Not crazy at all! Sounds like fun! She'll appreciate so much the fact that you let her express herself in this way.... and it's a harmless enough thing to do. Have fun with it! I wish I could talk my son into doing things like that once in awhile, but he's Mr. Conservative. :p

I had an ultra conservative mom & dad growning up (wasn't even allowed to get double pierced ears for a very very very long time... probably why I have five in each ear now :p) but dying hair was something I was always allowed to do. Granted I wasn't much for anything other than red or orange, but I had so much fun doing it. It is only hair, it isn't anything that can't be changed!

my son waited until he was away in college before he became a blue head. I never saw it.

Your a brave woman and a great mom. You have way more patience than I do. Bless your heart.

NOpe, you are letting her do what she needs to do for her growing up process. If my parents let me do some of the things (minor stuff) that i wanted to do growing up I wouldn't have been so rebelious (sp) Glad you are letting her do it, that isn't the worst thing in life:D
