Am I nuts? Touring WDW alone after knee replacement

I posted a few months ago about if WDW was possible after total knee replacement. You guys were so encouraging but we decided to wait - it has been 7 months and I'm not sure about the strength in my new joint. Well my husbands employer is now sending us for three days at the Yacht and Beach Club. woohoo Who can pass up a free trip to WDW? The problem is I would be left alone to tour during part of the day while he is in meetings. This would also be a first trip without my college age daughters since they have summer job commitments. I could see me being pushed in a wheelchair but I could not trust my ability in an ECV. I feel sure that I would run into people in a crowd. My question is if I try to walk in the parks, do you think a CM would help me find a seat until I could call for my husband to come rescue me? I know I am responsible for myself, WDW isn't responsible for my well being, and ideally I will be fine but I am just worried about what if. Anyone ever get stranded alone in a park?

In an emergency, a CM will take you to first aid. A better plan might be to take frequent breaks on your own and sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Grab a snack and people watch.

That actually sounds good! This trip will be different anyway without my daughters or the time to plan ahead. This will be a whole new way to see Disney.

Do you drive a car?

If the answer is yes, you should have no problem driving an ECV. Go to a large grocery store or something similar to WalMart or Target and use a store-provided ECV for your shopping one day. Be aware that the Disney ECVs are easier to use than the store ones (no giant front basket) and the off-site rentals are much better than Disney's.

Don't underestimate yourself! What reason do you have to believe that you're so incapable? Would it be possible for you to take a "test drive" at a local grocery store?

If, after trying, you end up absolutely sure you can't use an ECV, a rollator walker might be the way to go. At least you could sit down when you needed to.

I agree. Just the fact that you are concerned about it shows you are more capable than some that rent them. They are really easy to drive, though. You don't have to brake, they just stop when you let of the accelerator.

This thread does scare me a bit about my future knee replacements. I thought a couple of months and I would be feeling like a 12 year old again. I guess I've underestimated the recovery time. Makes me want to put it off forever ... kind of like I have been doing for years.

Knee replacement is scary but don't put it off too long. Once you are at the point of requiring the replacement, I don't think you gain anything by waiting. It is not going to get better on its own. I waited to the bitter end and wonder if that hasn't made my rehab tougher.

The first couple of months after surgery were horrible for me but it does get better. I worked very hard at rehab and just got impatient with my progress. It took 4-5 months but I finally saw a lot of progress. At seven months the muscles are still tender but the knee feels like my own and I don't think about all of the time.

Let me know if you want any other first hand advice or encouragement.
