Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

That's the problem that I have.

How far do these dance routines have to go to get attention? These girls are 7. What kind of dance routine will they be doing when they're 15? How much further do they have to go to impress the judges, dance teachers, parents and audience? Is there a limit? :confused3

They won't have to go any further, other than expanding their talent. This happens to be the style of the day, and that is all. IT IS A DANCE. These girls are not going to become strippers or worse unless that is what they want to do.

I may not think that the dance is 100% ok, but this isn't the end of their innocent lives. When they are 15 they will be doing whatever the style of the day is. End of story.

My goodness I listened to ACDC Dirty Deeds, does that mean I was going out to do bad things to people.

For those that don't like the costume, fine. I don't know where they have different ones, but this is normal stuff. Those bottoms are boy cut. They cover. So what their tummy shows. I just don't get it.

Wow, if you think that was simulating oral sex you may want to take a refresher sex-ed class :rolleyes1

Anyway you are all talking about the outfits being inapppropriate. Could someone be specific because revealing doesn't really mean tey are inappropriate, almost ALL dance costumes are revealing. What is it about that particular one that makes you feel its inappropriate.

Here are some more examples of typical costumes, they show just as much, if not more skin. Do you find these just as bad? If not, why? BTW these were all found undr 9 year old dance search.

Well I just watched a little bit of the first three. Though the outfits were 2 piece none looked like hooker clothes to me and I did not see any sexual dance moves so no problem with these to me.

It is not just the costume it is the costume combined with the music and moves that make it inappropriate for little girls. Quite frankly if they would have just had them wear black leotards and toned it down a bit it would have showcased the talent more.

take a look at the routines and you can answer your own question. Geez, these girls aren't going to be doing porn on stage because of this routine

The problem with just black is that you need sparkle to show up on stage. My DD is on a cheerleading team at a Baptist church. (can't get more conservative than that). Their uniforms are extremely short, and they have sparkle on them. And lets not even get into the makeup that these as young as 9 year olds are wearing on her team. They look like street walkers, but they have to, to show up under the lights.

Do we stop letting kids be kids because there are perverts out there? Do we read things into their dance routine because some sickos might get turned on?

It only "sexualizes" these girls in the eyes of people who would be turned on by them in burkas walking down the street.

The decision to post this on the web was undoubtedly a mistake. I imagine that the people in the audience only saw a great dance routine. Now that it is on the web, the pervs will have access. But does that mistake make the who thing into something disgusting?

Why the choice of skimpy clothes? How little clothing is too little? I do not think the outfit choice and the dance routine is about letting kids be kids. It is about little girls dressing and acting like adults. I don't get why this is so defended. I think we should let the kids be kids!

I wanted to add: you don't have to read anything into the dance. They put it out there right in your face.

A) You can't guarantee that, ever, under any circumstances. And B), no. I don't find encouraging scantily clad children to gyrate in public and behave in an adult-like sexual manner appropriate...

Thanks - just wanted you to validate that your concern in this arena has nothing to do with your stance. You aren't worried about perverts or protecting these girls - you want to control the way that other people act. :thumbsup2

These were kids being kids. Some people are trying to make more of it than that.

I saw Billy Joel in Hershey, PA two years ago. During the concert he did a rendition of Highway to Hell. You should have heard the collective gasp of the crowd. I think that some of them really thought that he was going to hell for singing the song. :rotfl2:

Billy Joel doing Highway to Hell? Are you sure you weren't IN HELL?:scared1:

I have a DD4 and a DD2 and watching this video makes me so sad that I even have daughters. How can I protect them in this world? Normal, average people think it's to be encouraged to look and dance like that.....I can't even imagine what kind of damage the abnormal people could do.

I'm not trying to be dramatic. My heart really does break a little bit seeing that video.

Of all the things in all the world for young girls to get involved in, why would you choose an activity that makes them look like "street walkers". :sad2:

LIke I said, it is a Chirsitian Cheerleading league. They only wear the makeup for competitions. I was making a point, that you have to pile stuff on and go for the glitz on stage. I am sorry but until you see the organization and what it promotes then you cannot question me and my choice for my daughter. They have nothing but christian values, but you have to be seen on stage. So really, dont question my judgement on what my DD does.

That's the problem. People see it as something that everyone else is doing, so it's accepted as the norm. Thus, it must be ok. It isn't cool to question it or to reject it. If you want to fit in, or win in this case, you follow the herd.

I know I said I was out but it's a commercial! See now a post like this is kind of harsh and putting :thumbsup2 after it doesn't change the intent. She is expressing her opinion that she finds it inappropriate and wouldn't allow her child to participate.

Exactly- EVERYTHING is not ok. Some things are inappropriate and little girls being dressed like Prostitots and gyrating on stage is one of those things. Sometimes being judgemental is okay.

OMG, that was really disturbing.

What kind of parent lets their 7 year old get tarted up in lingerie and thigh high stockings
