Am I getting old or is this horribly wrong?

I don't find it so horrible. The outfits are 2 piece boy shorts and thats not unusual for a dance routine. Would I want my dd walking around school like that, heck no but its not so bad or uncommon when being worn for a dance competition. As far as the dancing, there really are only a few moves toward the end that are way too mature for girls of that age.

Oh yea I want my child wearing black thigh highs shaking it.:scared1:

They might as well have just attached the garters.

That is just wrong on so many levels.

I have a seven year old dancer. If she was EVER doing this... someone would have to answer to a very angry momma bear.

They are very talented, but to me, that was overshadowed by the very inappropriate dance moves!

Yikes.. those girls look so talented, but that was just a little bit too much twerk in the routine. :eek: Especially at the :25 mark, the girl closest to the camera.

Are you saying we are catty because we don't want our daughters dressing up like little street walkers?

LOL - some of these posts already have these girls pregnant at 15 and working at strip clubs their entire lives. :rolleyes1

I saw an innocent bunch of little girls having a great time dancing to a very popular song - and doing it exceptionally well. They had expressions of pure joy on their faces for most of that routine. I didn't see anything sexually overt or suggestive. Their costumes were not conservative - but what dance costumes are?

I guess we see what we want to see.

Oh, so we're all jealous old ladies. Gotcha :thumbsup2

And when I see things like this video, the pagent shows, music videos, and commercials/advertisements aimed at girls, etc -- I see girls being schooled in the fact that no matter how smart you are, how talented, how good of a person -- what matters is how you look and how sexy you are.

So yeah, I guess it is all "relative" to your experience ;)

Jealous? No. Judgemental? Well... :rolleyes1

Sorry- I worked in a pediatric office and the kids who come in who have been victimized break your heart and tend to make you a bit hypersensitive to people sexualizing children. As another poster said, why are people so bent on aging their kids? Pageants and dance routines like this... why?

I know I'm in the minority but I thought all the girls were very talented and did a great job for their age. I thought the costumes were fine too. The moves, while they may have been sexual if adult women (or older teens) were doing them looked absolutely adorable (and yes, innocent) when the little girls do them.

I'm pretty prudish but I think the costumes are being judged due to their color comination. They don't seem skimpy nor does the dance seem bad. They are not simulating anything...just a little shimmy here and there. Anytime you go to a contemporary dance recital or contest, they do this kind of stuff. Have you seen cheerleaders routines lately?
It's hardly about "color combination". :confused3 They ARE skimpy, IMHO (and most others), and that's hardly "a little shimmy here and there". And honestly, who cares what cheerleaders are doing lately? As if that is some sort of "proof" that this is OK? I haven't seen what cheerleaders are doing lately, but maybe that's not appropriate either. :confused3
It's not sexual to those little girls. To them, they are dancing and having fun and BEING Beyonce.
Well then, it's OK. :confused3 It IS sexual, whether the kids "get it" or not. The adults in the audience (and on the Internet)...esp the undesirable ones..."get it" that it's sexual.
Like a PP said, there was a little shimmy here and there....nothing more than I've seen 5 year olds emulate of "Toddlers and Tiaras"/beauty padgents.
Another disgusting display of the exploitation of children.
While they did a FEW moves from Beyonce, they did not do the routine as done in her video. If they had done the video routine to a T, with different outfits, I could see a lot of us having different stance on the routine.
::yes::
Just brings me back to ... "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"... Im sad for them. And the more attention they get for acting/dancing this way, the cooler they think it is, the more they do it....
::yes::

The kids are only "aged" by this if they are taught the sexual meaning behind their moves. To them, they are just having fun.

Reminds me of the movie/book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". Remember when the boys said, "How can a butt be cute?"

That's one of the more bizarre statements I've read on the DIS. Dance moves that are considered sexual when an adult woman does them but not when a little girl does them. I'll have to think on that one for a while.

Nah.

wow. at that age my dd was wearing cinderella dresses and plastic sparkle sandals. how sad that those girls will miss out on the magic of being little.

I can't believe anybody would think those types of suggestive, sexualized dance moves are fine for a child! I actually thought the costumes would have been not so bad if that had been an acrobatics group, but the dance moves made them so sleazy.

And for the record, Beyonce is is pushing 30. She can dance all the sexy moves she wants.

Oh, THAT'S the trick! Don't tell them they're behaving sexually. Well, there ya go! It'll be the little secret of everyone in the audience and on the Internet. ;)

:rolleyes:
