We are planning to drive, but figure if we can get flights in the $120 range, flying would be doable (and SO much easier on us all!). The cheapest I've found in a recent search is $180. For those who price check regularly, do you think my expectations are unrealisitic? ETA: We will be flying out of Indianapolis.

Where are you from? does Airtran or southwest fly out of your airport? They are usually the cheapest. GL

Well it really depends on your airport and which carriers you have. I fly Airtran out of Richmond and can get $59 pretty regularly. You do need to add taxes and checked bag fees on top of that.

I'm from NY and haven't seen a flight for $120 in ages. I don't know where you are but adding in all those fees now I would think $180 isn't so bad.

We are paying $200 for our trip in March. Cheapest with good flight times I saw was $160 but I missed that by not booking in time:headache:

But for $40 more we are getting direct flights both ways and early morning/late evening times.

I'm from NJ, and I've never paid less than $200.

I am from PA (fly out of PHL) and have never paid more than $200 for a flight in 14+ trips.

The best I have seen lately is $59 flights out of PHL and with taxes you are just shy of $150. Not sure what airport you are flying out of :confused3

DH flew in December from Louisville, KY to Orlando for $112
I flew in Jan. from Orlando to Manchester, NH for $59. I just booked for DIL, DGD & DGS to fly from Manchester, NH to Orlando for $78 each way per person (they are flying in May). Southwest does not charge for a second check-in bag so they still allow 2 bags at no additional charge, unlike most other airlines now. So with security fee and taxes it is around $100. For all 3 of them to fly round-trip it came out to around $500. Not sure where you are located but if Southwest flys out from your local airport then check their flights.

i booked our flight at $99 each way --- $198 roundtrip --- from San Antonio, TX to Orlando, FL --- this was flying on Southwest...

I'm not sure where you are or what companies you have, but I haven't seen $120 roundtrip in I don't know how long. I consider anything under $250/person roundtrip is pretty good, so I'd say good luck finding 120/person. I'd grab those $180's though if I could fine that for us. The cheapest I have found for our upcoming trip to Orlando is right at 280/person. I've also been pricing flights for our trip to PA in a few months and the cheapest I have found (looking at multiple airports) is right around 320/person. Good luck to you though!

I live 20 minutes from Newark airport, and I just checked, and the cheapest flight to Orlando right now, for the month of March, is a one stop for $223. I've never seen anything cheaper. :confused3

Check out Allegiant Air. They fly out of the smaller aiports but their rates are worth the extra drive. I've found it cheaper to fly with them and rent a car then to drive all the way. They are a budget airlines so everything is an extra fee but the people who work there have always gone out of there way to make our trips special.

We paid $69/person round trip out of DTW (Detroit) on Spirit for May. We paid $330 total for flight, taxes/fees & baggage for the 3 of us. I booked at the right time though, the same flight is running about $300/person right now..OUCH! We have an early am outbound flight and an evening inbound flight, both non-stop.

Other than this flight, we usually pay about $180/person r/t. If you found a $180 r/t flight, I'd say that's pretty good right now!

We fly Airtran from Philly and pay either $79 or $59 each way (non-stop). We usually end up booking cheap airfare first and then our trip... Southwest also has cheaper airfare- sign up for their "DING"- sometimes they have really good rates. Also, I check Expedia and Travelocity- you can quickly check the rates for the days you want to fly

Good luck-

I can usually get a direct flight from NY to MCO for $130 a piece round trip but that's in Oct. It really depends on where and when you are leaving. I usually use Airtran or JetBlue

#1 rule, book out as far as you can.

1/18/09 I booked Southwest from Philly to MCO $79 to and $89 From = $170 round trip

a few days later the flight going TO MCO goes down to $59 I hop online and get a $20 credit for each ticket ($100 total) and keep the same flight

Last week we decided to add on an extra 2 days :cool1: so I hop on and what do ya know- $59 a ticket comming home  so there's another $150 credit in my acct at Southwest.

There's no fee's to change your flight and they give you up to 2 bags each to check for free! So, AFTER taxes, fee's, and everything 5 tickets costed me $950 and I won't be paying for my bags.

I've been watching airfare watchdog for a few weeks and I have seen flights that cheap from Indi. Check that site everyday and see what pops up. Flight prices are so volatile. I just booked IL to Orlando for $120 round trip. It takes some patience.

Edited to add:
I just checked airfare watchdog. Right now Indi to Jacksonville, FL is $100 roundtrip without fees and taxes ($121 with all fees)
