Am I Crazy to Do This???

To make a long story short, I have three cruises booked in 2003 and in order to budget my money, I selected a Cat 11 for a 3 day Wonder, a Secret Porthole Room for a 7 day Easter cruise, and a Cat 6 for a Christmas cruise. I am happy with the Cat 11 since I barely used my room on the 3 day cruise I went on before. But I have heard such great things about having a verandah for the longer cruises. My plan was to have the Secret Porthole room now and then wait until the 60 day mark for the Easter cruise and if I had the extra money at that time, upgrade to a Cat. 6. However, on Cruise Locater's website, there are only 3 Cat 6 rooms left. Should I wait and hope for the best? Do you think I would be able to get a verandah room later if I wait? Do many people cancel at the 60 day mark? Are there enough Cat 6 rooms that one is likely to be available due to a cancelation at that point? Or would I get a guaranty instead? Also, even if the cruise price goes up, I would just have to pay the price difference between the two room categories, right? ($800) What would you do?

If you're worried about having enough money, I'd wait. If you book the veranda now, and don't have enough, you'd DEFINATELY lose your secret porthole room. I'm sure there will be some cancelations, but how many will, no one can be for sure. We're thinking of taking the Apr 19th Magic, which one are you taking?? Also, where is this cruise locater website? I'd like to know, since we were hoping to wait until our Nov Wonder cruise to book the Magic for the $200 credit. I'd like to see what's left, if it's almost full, I might just book know to ensure myself a room!!!

If you want the category 6 room, definately book it now. While it might be cheaper at the port if you offer to pay for the upgrade when boarding, during Easter week, there wouldn't likely be one of those rooms available. If you book it at the 60 day mark then you likely won't get any early booking savings which you might get now. If you want the room, why wait?

you have to go to 'online booking' and then 'Disney Cruise Line' to see the info. It's the exact info you will see if you use the Dreams Unlimited site because they use the same booking engine.

It will not show you when a cruise is 'full', but it will show the next eight cabins available in a particular category. You could infer that if you only see three cabins available for a particular cruise date that it is 'getting full' in that category.

You must remember to keep in mind that in order to tell that the ship is 'selling out' of a particular category that you also check for a cabin with 2 adults. It's entirely possible that the ship would have sold out of space available for a family of four with 2 children, or that all of the cabins that will accomodate 4 have been booked, but there could be many cabins left that will accomodate 2 adults.

There are 140 Category 6 cabins on each DCL ship and I would say that Easter would be a prime time, as evidenced by the higher prices that are charged. If the Cat 6 cabins are sold out, they will not keep selling GTYs indefinetly, they would just sell enough to where they could reasonably presaume they could fill them, like 5 or 10 above.

If you want the veranda, your best chance to get it is to reserve it now, and that is what I would do to make sure I had it.

hope that helps
