Am I crazy to consider Cabana Bay vs Caribbean Beach?

The family suites at Cabana Bay with the room design are great! The mini kitchenettes, bathroom set up, slider to separate into two rooms, etc, all great for the price. And the pool areas and lazy river are great. Definitely a better value for what you get and the price. Been there twice solo and once as a group of three who needed three separate beds. I’d stay there again.

That said, it is a full 20 minute drive, or more. Sure, no bus waiting at the resort, but transportation time is real.

Be sure to check out options in Flamingo Crossings, too. In terms of room for the money and proximity, I also love the TownPlace Suites there though I admit it doesn’t have nice theming and the pool is boring. Not sure when the new places are opening there, but the drive time to this area is pretty awesome.

I love the disney bubble but have had some very magical trips offsite. I was going to suggest renting a 2 bedroom at Bonnet Creek. You are super close to the parks and the space is awesome. We've spent a few trips at Bonnet Creek and did Disney the entire time with no issue. We've lucked out as we've been able to see fireworks from our balcony on every trip.(I think you have to ask for a parking lot view to see the fireworks) We are going in December this year and I'm a little miffed by the prices but I just don't want to stay off this year. We are splitting our time and have rented some points for part of our stay and will be at Swan/Dolphin the rest. I want to take advantage of the early mornings and extra evening hours as much as possible. I will admit we loved Portofino when we visited Universal. Beautiful resort and their other resorts look awesome. Our friends just returned from Margaritaville and loved their villa. They were able to get a good deal on it and have decided to stay in the same place next year and leave the disney bubble. Have a great time no matter what you choose.

We stayed at Cabana Bay in 2019. We loved it. It was very clean - we were in the big tower with the volcano view of the water park. We only stayed there while we were at universal. I would stay there again. I've stayed at CBR 7 times. The last 2 times I stayed there our rooms smelled really bad that we had to switch rooms. And they still smelled. I don't know if it's the old carpets or what but I won't stay there again. And CBR was the my favorite. If they redo the rooms I will definitely be back. The did redo the marketplace and restaurants but they haven't done the rooms in a long time.
