Am I Crazy - Poly or CSR

I decided the rooms at CSR are just too small for the 3 of us (I know I know, families of 5 are fine here but we travel a lot and appreciate our space). And, we are not park commandos; we do spend time at the resort. Also, I cannot sleep in a double bed with my husband (we need at least a king), and my 10 year old is also a big boy and tends to roll. That said, I called CRO this morning and was able to add on a 2nd room - but only at the AAA rate and not the AP rate we have for the first room. Now the total for both rooms with tax is 269.00. And she did say she could guarantee adjoining because there is a child involved.

That all said, we would really love to stay at a deluxe. We budgeted more money for the trip and my 2 oldest sons now can't join us. I could save that money (no fun) or use it for a deluxe. AKL is available at AP rates - standard savannah but we've been there, done that Loved it but love new experiences more. We do want a nice pool, we do want a good size room, so I started looking at the Poly. But no AP rates - I can get a Garden view for the AAA rate of $363.00. And I did reserve it to make sure I have my hands on it - AAA rates are few and far between for my dates (apr 10 - 16) - couldn't even get this rate directly through CRO but was able to get it through my local (Washington State) AAA onine site.

Now we are talking a little over 100.00 per night more (including tax) than what I was paying. Am I nuts? Is it worth it? My son likes to hang out at the pool - is this one that much nicer or nicer at all than CSR?? We are not a family in desperate straights and we aren't starving, but gosh, I'm beginnig to question my sanity.

I will need to cancel one of these ressies by April 4 - the only damage I'm doing right now is holding up deposits on my credit card.

Help - I need some expert advice.

If you will spend most of your time at MK and Epcot, the investment of $100 per day is well worth it when you consider the time you will save travelling back and forth to your resort. The Poly pool is great, too. I've never seen the pool at CSR, but I hear it's nice. Hey, it's no Volcano!

While I like CSR very much and they have a great pool, if money isn't the biggest issue, I would go for the Polynesian. You will have MUCH more space, a great pool and convenient transportation when you want it. Keep calling back - there are always cancellations and you never know an AP rate could open up.

Good luck!

If you can swing the extra money, I say splurge on the Poly, especially if you plan on spending lots of time at the resort. The pool is really nice, and the view from the pool and the beach is breathtaking--Cinderella's Castle, the Grand Floridian, and the Contemporary can all be seen from pool and/or the beach. My ten year old niece and 12 year old nephew loved the water slide at the Poly.

It's also nice to be able to take the monorail to the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary for meals, or shopping. Heck, just getting on the monorail for a spin is fun.

If you do decide to stay at the Poly, be sure to look in the hotel guide for the kids activities. We spent an hour at the arcade when they were having an arcade tournament one afternoon. My nephew was in seventh heaven, playing all the video games he wanted for an hour, and his mom was happy she didn't have to pay for them.

Have a great trip!

Have you considered an Epcot resort since the pool is important? At yc/bc, you would have the best pool at WDW and be within walking distance to two parks. My 9-year-old would pick this over the poly hands down. We also like to soak in the hot tub after a day at the parks -- something you can't do at the poly. Just a thought.

We've stayed at CSR and the Poly and liked them both. Our stay at the Poly was before the pool renovation, though. CSR's pool is very nice -- the best of the moderates.

I did consider YC/BC but no AP or AAA rates available. Also, I like the size of the Poly rooms. How big are the BC or YC regular rooms?

If we do end up getting a deal at YC/BC (though I'm doubtful at this point), which resorts are quieter - YC/BC or Poly? This is a big need for my husband.

travellady-
The Poly rooms are defintiely more spacious than the YC/BC but the YC/BC rooms are bigger than CSR. Both locations are fantastic. I've stayed at both the YC and BC and I don't think there is a real difference in loudness. However, if peace and tranquility are important in your resort, I would definitely say that the Poly is more relaxing and peaceful.

DH and I are the same as you and your DH. We sleep in a king size bed at home and we always have to stay in a deluxe resort as they have the queen size beds. Perhaps once we travel without kids we'll try the other resorts when we can each have our own double bed or get a room with a king bed.
Happy planning!

According to Sehlinger's Unofficial Guide, there are some rooms that get a lot of noise from the nearby racetrack - these are evidentally the rooms nearest the parking lot. I had never heard of this before, but read it last night. Maybe someone can comment further from experience, but I think, travellady, you should try to be sure to avoid those particular rooms if quiet is a big issue for you. I've also heard that rooms facing the volcano pool can also get loud.

That all said, we would really love to stay at a deluxe. We budgeted more money for the trip and my 2 oldest sons now can't join us. I could save that money (no fun) or use it for a deluxe.

If saving money is no fun...by all means...do the deluxe!! We want you to have lots of fun! You want to enjoy the deluxe has to offer. Go for it! Do the Poly. I think you'll enjoy staying at the Poly more. Have fun there! :)

After working with a very patient CM today, we ended up getting 3 nights at the Poly - 1 night with AAA discounts and 2 nights with AP rates. I decided to check the CR as well and found 3 nights at CR with AP discount so took that for the final 3 nights. Now we get to do the quietness and laid backness of the Poly (i'll make sure I ask for a quiet room) and the hustle and bustle of the CR. My 10 year old DS will love the game room at the CR based on what I'm hearing.

Great combination - now resist changing between now and your trip :teeth:

thanks

No more changing, no more changing, no more changing...

I must now turn my attention to other things like - what will I bring? What will we do?

But, we are staying at the Grand Floridian in December- plenty of time to work on changing that one :D
