Hello! I am usually a lurker around here, but I hope to change that and get more involved!
About me:
-I'm 33 (though people tell me I look closer to 20!)
-I am a math professor
-My hobbies are cats, painting, scrapbooking, and board games
-I am a thyroid cancer survivor and had a thyroidectomy plus radioactive iodine last year (and actually had to do WDW on a low-iodine diet, which was really annoying--I know it's a niche interest but if anyone wants/needs any information about it, I can share).
-I have been married for almost 11 years to my wonderful husband Jay, who is also a professor.
Here's me and hubby:
and another....

And me and my family (parents, sister, BIL, niece/nephew):
Me and friends (yep, they're Figment and Dreamfinder...I'm Ariel) on a last minute one-night trip for MNSSHP:
and my fur babies, Semirhage and Asmodean (their names are from a fantasy book series, The Wheel of Time):
I love Disney World and have been there probably around 10 times in my life. I have fond memories of going with my family as a young kid, visiting my sister while she was doing the DCP in the 90s, and then a few times in my adult life as well.
We found out something super exciting in January....we are expecting baby #1 in Sept '16! I am so nervous but excited!
So, a few weeks ago, a friend who is due in July posted the most adorable photos of she and her husband's Disney babymoon a few weeks ago, and I decided that if she could do it, so could we! I will be approximately 23 wks pregnant at the time...and hopefully won't be at the "miserable" stage yet.
So, my husband and I will be staying at the Swan (for the first time) May 18-23. Since I won't be able to ride the thrill rides, we will be doing the little rides, meeting lots of characters, swimming/relaxing, and probably eating too much!
General thoughts and plans:
Even though I have been a number of times, Jay has only been twice (once as a small child, and once with me a couple years ago). So there is a lot I have done that he hasn't. I want to make sure it's enjoyable for him so he will want to come back with baby in the future
Why the Swan? So over the years I've stayed at the All-Stars a number of times, the Contemporary for a few nights (with another couple to split the large cost), POR, and in a great offsite rental condo. All Stars were ok, the Contemporary location was good but a bit boring and too expensive, and POR was fine...but on our last trip, Jay and I ended up doing a lot of hopping over to Epcot for strolling and food, so I thought an Epcot resort would be best. (Plus see below about SW and DHS...) Well the BC/YC/BW were just a tad too expensive, but I did find a good package deal with park hoppers through Costco for the Swan. I LOVE the location and read good reviews about it. Only downsides--no DME, no magic bands. Well we already have bands, and we'll just have to find some sort of transportation, which shouldn't be too bad since it's just 2 of us.
Star Wars: See above for photographic evidence
Jay LOVES Star Wars...I can't emphasize this enough. We could fill a whole room with just SW stuff. He can seriously name any piece of trivia you can think of. Sadly, we never made it to SWW, but at least there is a lot going on at DHS studios at the moment for him. We'll catch the fireworks, stage show, all the Launch Bay stuff, and he can do Star Tours.
Villains: He also loves villains (especially Maleficent) and I have been reading the great reviews about Club Villain. I seriously haven't read anything negative. It's pricey, but I'm willing to forgo a few TS meals in order to do it. I just got a reservation for May 21, 9pm (late for us but I'm hoping it will be ok).
Food: Since I don't know what my tastes will be by then, and I wanted to save a bit of money, I don't think I'll be booking many TS meals. We can meet characters with our FP+ instead of thrill rides (plus we'll have Club Villain), so we don't even need a character meal. We may do Sanaa (went there once and loved it) or Marrakesh since we like exotic (well, "Disney exotic") but I think we'll actually just end up doing mostly QS and snacks. This will give more time flexibility with time, too, since my hunger seems to come on fast.
Also right now we are scheduled for the Marceline to Magic Kingdom Tour but that I may cancel that since I got the Club Villain reservation.
Random other must-dos:
-Jock Lindsey's --I went there without Jay in October and I know he will love it. No alcohol for me this time but the appetizers were pretty good. Jay's an Indy fan too.
-Character meets-- these are a surprising amount of fun as just adults
I'm not too picky--the only one I was really hoping for specifically was Marie, and that's not going to happen now, but I'll be happy with whoever else we see.
-Festival of Fantasy parade -- I've seen it but Jay hasn't, and he will love the dragon!
-Dole Whip, Beaches and Cream, Green tea ice cream, etc...some of my favorite snacks
And finally, one other thing that may happen...we do have friends who live in Golden Oaks. I don't know if they will be around, but it would be awesome to visit them again. I've seen their place (it's crazy) but Jay hasn't. If anyone wants details, I can share
Tentative Schedule:
May 18: Arrival, Epcot in the afternoon/evening, maybe hop to DHS for fireworks since we'll miss them the other day? We aren't really Illuminations fans.
May 19: Magic Kingdom, (Maybe Marceline tour?)
May 20: Animal Kingdom, hop to DHS at night for fireworks? but it will be busy due to EMH?
May 21: Hollywood Studios, Star Wars stuff! Club Villain 9pm
May 22: Epcot or MK, maybe Disney Springs
May 23: Epcot or MK in the morning, then we head out!
I'm trying not to plan too much, since we won't be going commando due to my condition (and because Jay doesn't really like that style) but I do need things somewhat planned just for my peace of mind.
Thanks for reading all my rambling! More to come
