I'm not an owner, so I wasn't sure if I could post a question on this Board, and if this is the appropriate place.

My husband and I are very interested in buying a DVC membership, but we have our hearts set on Beach Club Villas because we LOVE Stormalong Bay.

1. How hard will it be to get points at BCV?
2. How much difference does it make?
3. How easy is it to trade into BCV from, say, SS?

What other advice might you have? :dance3:

You are more than welcome to post questions here and you'll find that we LOVE to talk about our DVC! :thumbsup2

1. Points at BCV are very popular. Are you wanting to purchase through Disney or do a resale? If resale, you can click on The Timeshare Store icon at the top of this page and check out their listings to get an idea.

2. For any DVC, the 11 month window is the key. If you can plan that far in advance it is important. If you can't make plans until you're within 7 months of travel, it won't make any difference and you'll take your chances with availability.

3. Trading into BCV will depend on the season. One problem is that BCV is a smaller resort so there aren't as many rooms available and it's very popular at all time, but especially during the warmer months (SAB is a nice pool) and during F&W festival (due to Epcot location), so those times would be more difficult to get a 7 months reservation.

Basically, if you travel during popular times, can plan 11 months in advance, and you'd be REALLY disappointed if you couldn't get into BCV, you should probably buy there. If you'd prefer BCV, but wouldn't mind staying somewhere else if you couldn't get in, SSR would be fine.

YES! You can most DEFINITELY post a question here! This thread might get moved to DVC Operations board though. Until then....

1. BCV points. Click on the link to The Timeshare Store and then click on "Buy DVC re-sales" across the top bar. They sometimes have BCV re-sales. You can also wait-list through DVC itself (but it's much more expensive; however, you won't be responsible for closing costs).

2. Not sure what you mean here, but if you mean, "Does it matter if you buy SSR vs BCV?" then yes, it does. SSR gives you 12 more years of ownership than does BCV. Also, the 11-month booking window can be very advantageous if you own where you mostly want to stay.

3. BCV is one of the smallest properties so it stays pretty much booked up all year around, but you CAN get a reservation there alot of the times. We were even able to get a dedicated 2br to open up during the busiest DVC season (the 1st two weeks of Dec). I waitlisted right at the 7-month window and it came through in about a month's time. (We are SSR owners).

Most folks on here will tell you to buy where you want to stay. It's probably good advice. Like I mentioned earlier, I own at SSR but have yet to stay there. We like BWV best...and probably VWL once we stay there. I see an add-on in our future. ;)

As DVC grows larger, it will probably get harder and harder to book into the BCV. That's not because more people own at BCV, it's because more non-BCV owners will be competing for the same number of rooms when the 7-month window opens. So decide how important BCV is to you, and if you want to stay there most of the time, buy there even if you have to wait for the points. Do talk to a Disney agent as well as a resale agent. BCV points are sometimes hard to get and tend to disappear fast. What's more, there are times when the resale prices for BCV are surprisingly close to Disney's own price for the points. And don't believe a Disney agent who says you have to buy SSR. They start out saying that but back down if you're firm. How long will it take to buy from Disney? Disney seems to acquire them in waves, so sometimes people only wait a month or 2 and sometimes close to a year. In contrast, the resale agents have those points more steadily but the competition for them can be high and you need an agent who will act quickly on your behalf.

Google DVC resales and you will get several resale companies. :thumbsup2

I have had contracts from 2 BCV different brokers in the last month.

Good luck!

This is what happened to me (pre-DIS board days). I called and wanted VWL or BWV but my guide told me they were sold out already and made it seem as if SSR was the only one still available and made it sound like it was a better deal than the others anyway since I'd get 12 more years. Now that I know more about resale etc., (thanks to the DIS), I plan on adding on at BWV but probably keeping SSR for the extra years.

If you want to spend most of your time at the Beach Club villas and can book vacations between 11-8 months then definitely buy there. However if you know you are not going to be able to book until 7 months or later, then buy where ever you can get the best deal.

As to what the future holds for booking we can only speculate, we don't know for sure. There might be problems, there might not be. By buying where you want to stay you eliminate some of the uncertainity.

I can say that from personal experience we have been able to book BCV every summer since it opened at 7 months and less for a 2 bedroom. Others may have experienced difficulities but that has not been our experience.

Good luck with your decision.

I also want to add that for BVC only! resale may not be that much less expensive than buying direct from Disney IIRC right now non SSR resorts are $95 thru disney - resale has been around $91-96 for BVC from what I've seen.

Any other resort you can possibly save a few thousand dollars easily by going resale- just a thought!

Welcome.

I got the same story J and R's mom got. "Sorry, VWL and BCV are sold out, how about this instead." I stayed in contact with our guide and also pursued BCV points on the resale market. After, I passed ROFR I called my guide to tell them to take me off their list of prospects. They were very upset and I almost felt like I was breaking up with my girlfriend in 6th grade having to explain why I didn't buy through Disney. Needless to say they haven't called since to welcome us to DVC.

Keep in mind if you go resale that it takes a little longer to process everything but is a very safe and affordable way to get in the game, especially if you use The TimeShare Store.

Good Luck with your decision.

BCV is very popular.

I won't count on getting BCV in these times.

from middle of Feb (spring break) to August.

then from Oct to Dec (food/wine, then Dec has Christmas stuff all month)

You might be able to get BCV

Sept you can probably get - until Disney push the food/wine further back into Sept.

now there are also some days in May - when you might be able to get BCV.
Just not on mother's day weekend, star wars or memorial day. (I think that leaves the first week)

VWL is the smallest DVC resort on WDW property. but BCV is the most popular. some of that is the SALB - but I think most of it is you can walk to EPcot....

How about January? I keep meaning to try to book a studio in either BCV or BWV January 21 for 5 nights. But I keep forgetting and only remember when I get home from work and MS is closed.
