I just had someone ask if they could try on my Mickey ears hat. Having read how some people can be I said that I knew people had their's stolen so no.

Of course its not, I mean they could have tried to take it and I personally think you did the absoulte right thing

Of course you are not a bad person - I would have done the same thing. Nobody can force you to trade your items to someone else. When others ask to "borrow" something, they really are asking you, "may I steal your items?"

One of my rules is, Never let anyone borrow my things (unless it's someone I know well and trust).

Are you kidding me? If someone asked me to "try on" something they were interested in I would think that is ludicrous. I can understand someone wanting to see that you have the item in the trade window but there is no way I would let someone try it on. I think if you do that you are asking to get taken advantage of. It sounds like you used common sense.

You did the right thing. Some people asking to "try on" things are honest, but I'd guess the vast majority are looking to take your item(s). Which is why I would never lend things out unless it was to a good friend, and when I say no I explain it's a bad idea to do that because so many people scam (just in case they are honest and really do just want to try it on). Better safe than sorry, as I always say.

Of course you are not a bad person - I would have done the same thing. Nobody can force you to trade your items to someone else. When others ask to "borrow" something, they really are asking you, "may I steal your items?"

Yes just like "someone" yesterday asked if she could "borrow" your inferno, I would of said no also.

That's not a bad idea. Next time someone asks you to do that tell them you want some collateral, like one of their items of similar value to hold onto until they give it back.

NO!!!! i lost a pink princess dress once because of that, and after i regained a new dress, i lost the shoes!!!!!! look at me, i'm such a softee!!! learn from my mistakes!!!! sorry to yell.................

Of course your not a bad person! I have loads of people asking to try on my dress every day and I always decline politely and tell them the reason why not.
Adding to what cteddiesgirl said I let my friend on vmk borrow my blue shoes so she could take a picture and she stole them. I don't let anyone borrow my stuff on VMK either except for Vegetarian_Angel and ForeverWDW. But they help me out alot too, and I trust them both. So as a word of advice from me and cteddiesgirl: only let peopel you have known for a long time and they have earned your trust borrow your things.

I say no all the time, and if I see someone ask someone else, I will tell them to say no. I'm not a bad person at all, just careful.

lol............. and the way she conned me out of them............. rather tricky....... she asked polietly once, i said no, but she kept pestering......... so i gave it to her, and followed her around everywhere. and she returned the clothes, and we did this a few more times........... then she wanted them for a party, and i had to sign off. so she gave me a tiki fountain, which i stupidly thought was extremely rare, and we promised to trade back. i went on vacation, and pm'd her at every opurtunity asking her to contact me. then when i came back home, she was gone. no longer on my friend's list. that was it. and it angered me so much.............

It kind of happened like that to me, I said no and the girl kept saying that I didn't trust her as a friend and blah blah blah. I was new so I believed her, and actually felt sympathy for her. Now I know better, and princess clothes are supposed to be coming back on sale in a couple of weeks so all she really accomplished was losing a good friend, and wearing some stupid shoes for two months. So if I could talk to her now I would actually only say to her that its her loss, I wouldn't care anymore than to say that to her.

Thank you all for the support. I'm glad I said no. I just kind of felt bad about doing it. Sorry for all those who have lost or had things stolen. I know i would have felt bad if I had lost my ears.

No, you're a smart person. If someone would have asked me I would have sounded mean telling them they have to work for their stuff. I say stuff like that in a mean way so if they don't decide to work, they get annoyed and leave me alone anyways!
