Hi Everyone
I just found out that the American Express Travelers Cheque Card is being discontinued as of October 31, 2007.....I don't want to use travelers checks, and I was wondering what alternative there might be to using cash or travelers checks, using that card last year was wonderful and I am so disappointed that they are discontinued.....any help would be great.....Thanks:thumbsup2

I'm leaving in 12 days and found out the same thing. I was disappointed, too, because I hadn't had a chance to try the new AMX traveler's check card.

I decided to use old-fashioned travelers checks instead, in large denominations ($50). That way, I don't have to deal with a bunch of smaller denominations (which can get bulky).

I prefer not to use debit card on vacation (since it's tied to my checking account; can cause huge problems if stolen, according to the people in the fraud department at the credit union where I work). I also decided not to use a credit card this vacation since we're four, unrelated adults staying in the same suite. Too hard to figure out whose charges are whose if we all charged to the room, and I don't want to worry about keeping track of a credit card for all my little purchases all week.

So old fashioned travelers checks it is! I can cash them as I need them, and leave the rest in the hotel safe.

I would just bring cash. Or at the most large denomination traveler's checks if you're worrying about travelling with cash. When you check into the resort, hand over all your cash and/or traveler's checks and have them apply it to your room charge. Then you only carry around your room card all week. At the end of the week, if there's any money leftover, they will give it back to you at check out. We've done this numerous times in the past when we didn't have a credit card to use. :thumbsup2

I'm a AAA member and always bought their travelers checks (I think they were from VISA) for WDW. They stopped selling them September 15. My plan now is to purchase a WDW gift card at the Disney Store and take some cash.

43 days to go!:woohoo:

The disney gift cards at the disney stores are NOT valid in disney world. The only thing you can get in the disney store to use in disney world is disney dollars. If you go to the disneyland website they have a gift card that you can purchase and use in the parks. Another place you can get a prepaid credit card it greendotonline.com they offer one through walmart as well that you can get in the store. The best way to go is the way a pp said when you check in put all of the money you want down on your resort key and only have the one card to worry about.

AAA doesn't sell the travelers checks anymore???? Is this just your AAA office or all over the country? I liked that they didn't charge a fee. May have to go with a prepaid debit card instead this time if the travelers checks are no longer sold at AAA!!:confused3

We loved the prepaid credit cards!!

I was in my AAA office this morning and I believe that I still saw the adds for the pre-paid VISA travel card. So if you didn't want to use your debit card, you may want to look for something like this. I believe the drawback is that there is a fee for the card.

We charge to our room key and bring minimal cash. If more cash is needed, there are ATM's throughout WDW.

We bring very little cash and put the whole trip on our Discover card, gives us express check out and we get 2% back when we pay with the monthly statement. Really have never had any problem using our roomcharge anywhere on property.

Actually, the Disney gift cards from the Disney store do work everywhere in Disney World. We got one for each of our kids at our local disney store before we left for our trip in September. They used them for souveniers and anything else they wanted. It worked very well for us. :goodvibes

I second that... we bought the kids $50 gift cards from the Disney store in the mall and used them at WDW.

I'm a Mid-Atlantic AAA member and received a letter this past summer that they would no longer sell travelers checks. I don't know if it's a nationwide policy.
