I found this information in a guide book. The Magic Kingdom barber shop has an offer for $5 (well, it may have gone up). The barber shop is located on Main Street and for $5 you can get an "adorable up-do with foil, Cinderella Castle confetti, and colored hair gel."

I haven't tried this yet (we plan on doing it our next trip). But as a family of 4 girls.....the bippity Boppity Boutique can get pretty expensive! I thought $5 for a fun hairdo seemed pretty good! At one point I had found photos from the Barber shop showing some of the hair styles they'd done this way. Some were very cute!

As far as I understood, this was a walk in deal too!

We did this Dec 2007 and it was 7.50 . My girls got colored gel, pixie dust in their hair. It looked better than BBB, in my opinion. They got lots of compliments.

We did this in May. It was $7.50 then as well, but it is free with a haircut (around $15). They don't really "style" the hair, but it looked really cute and my girls were thrilled. My younger one got her first haircut. The woman put her hair into a ponytail and put in the colored gel and confetti. My older daughter did not get a haircut. Her hair was in a ponytail and braided already. They just put the gel and confetti on the hairstyle she already had.

Several people commented that our girls had done BBB and told their kids that it was too expensive for them to do. It was definitely worth the price and the wait and was a highlight of our trip. (Two of our kids had their first haircuts.) We will not miss this on our next trip.

$5...wow that sounds too good to be true!

Well, I will tell you what I did. I have 2 girls ages 9 and 14. The 14 yr old even dressed like a princess but teen style. I went to Sally's Beauty Supply before we left, they sell supplies for hairdressers. I bought 2 fake curly hair pieces that matched their hair (about $7 each) and glitter spray ($4). Then DD9 had a crown I ordred on a sale from disneystore.com ($5) and DD14 had a tiara she had previously worn to a banquet. Total cost less than $25 for the 2 of them. All I did was put their hair in a bun and wrap the fake hair peices around it and sprayed in the glitter. It was adoable and I thought cuter than the styles the BBB did. I had people stop my all day asking me things like "if I had to make an appointment at BBB ahead of time" and "where was the BBB". As they walked by one cast member he said a little rhyme something like "the bibbity-boppity-do looks good on you" so obviously everyone thought we had used the BBB.

Here are pics of how the hair-dos I did looked:
(and yes, even DD's build-a-bear had on a Cinderella dress!)

Well, I posted before I read this...even $7.50 is well worth that compared to the costs of BBB esp. when you have more than one child!

Your girls look great. I really like the older DD's dress. Can you tell me where you got it? My DD loves to dress up, but she's getting older then the styles offered through WDW.

Thanks!

We got that dress at "Deb's". It's a teen clothes store that is pretty common in our area. We bought it off of a clearance rack over the summer when all the prom/special occasion dresses from the spring were on sale. It was like $65 originally and we got it for $12! If you have one of those stores near you, they do big discounts like that often. It's not the highest of quality but for something she is only going to wear once, maybe twice if she finds the occasion, it was perfect!

Funny story...while we were still in WDW my Mom was back home looking at our PhotoPass pictures online. She was showing them to my grandmother who said well DD9 looked cute, but wondered why didn't DD14 go to eat breakfast with the princesses? My Mom says what are you talking about she is in every picture??? Well, Granny thought DD14 WAS the princess! LOL! She didn't even recognize her!

DD14 enjoyed dressing up, she didn't act too old for it! And yes, she can be your typical I'm-too-good-for-that teenager! She really ate up all the "awwwwww"s and attention she got walking by! In fact, after breakfast out in front of the castle 3 male CMs bowed down to her as she walked by! She got a kick out of that! And I could kick myself for not getting a picture of that! Oh well, I guess the other 1,000 I have from our trip will have to do! LOL!

Oh and just FYI, I saw teen girls of all ages dressed in the actual Disney princess costumes! My DD9 almost ran up to one thinking she was really Belle! I even saw lots of Moms wearing crowns! I guess "girls" of all ages embrace their inner princess!

Thanks for the info! We don't have that store near us....too bad. I'll just poke around at that type of store to see what I can find.

My DD is 8 going on 18. She was feeling awkward on our last trip to BBB. I tried to tell her that other big girls go, but apparently she is far cooler then them :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks so much for the info my niece is 9 and didn't want to do BBB. The GREAT thing about WDW- it is the one place in the world you can wear the tiara you deserve and it be okay.

we plan on hitting the barber shop for DD#2 first haircut and DD#1 for whatever she will let them do. She turns 3, 4 days after we leave WDW and we had promised her BBB this year for her b-day present and she was in tears when I told her that they wouldn't take the reservation because she wasn't 3 yet.

A group of teenage girls got the color and confetti at the barber shop while we were waiting in line, so a 9 year old who's "too old" for BBB would probably feel comfortable at the barber shop.

My 9yo just wore her regular clothes (a little sundress), but really loved having the hairdo. She is excited to go again during our next trip and is even wanting to dress up a bit.

Thanks for the tip! I had been debating about doing BBB for my 3 year old, but couldn't really justify the price! Now, both my girls can have fun! My one year old might be ready for her first haircut there too!

I haven't posted pictures yet, but I think I know how. I'm going to give it a try. This is of my three oldest at the Barber Shop on Main St.

We went to the Barber Shop on December 23rd. My DS8 had his hair cut (and she did a WONDERFUL job) and colored and sparkled, etc. It was $14. (w/o tip) That's the same thing I pay here for his haircuts at the local place.

Just keep in mind it is walk-in only and the line can get pretty long at times. Other wise, have fun!!
I met a brother & sister who had it done and they absolutely loved having "hidden mickeys" on their head!

I'm so excited to know that many of you have already done this, and recommend it to others! And for those of you I helped by starting this thread...you're welcome! :)

I loved the idea of an inexpensive "fancy" do! $7.50 is still a whole lot less expensive than whatever BBB is! Thanks for the wonderful photos you've all shared here too! This just makes it that much of a positive thing to me! I wasn't quite sure how it would work or if it was really as nice as it said in the book! I got some great ideas from here...and now I'm sure excited for our girsl to try it on our next trip! :)

Instead of the BBB, I bought costumes for 75% off after halloween from disneyshopping online! For under $60 I got 2 princess costumes, 2 wands, & 2 tiaras! I did the girls hair, make up, & nails myself. They were SO surprised when I woke them up that am to find their dresses on the ends of their beds!!! They loved it!

princess: Isabella-6
princess: Charlotte-3

does anyone know if they will be open prior to rope drop-we have 9:00am ressies at CRT and thought this would be a great thing to do prior instead of BBB for two girls

OMG I'm so getting a crown for our MK day. Since I'm the only female in our family I've always said I was the princess! princess:
