Alternative Music to Small World?

I don't think the problem is so much the song in itself , its trying to stop that earworm from burying itself into your skull and remaining there for the rest of the day, my solution would be quickly try and replace it with another earworm less likely to drive you crazy. My solution would be to dash over to Splash Mountain straight after Small world, I can live with 'Laughing Place' or 'zip-e-dee-doodah' over Small World going round in my brain all day

The music is why that ride is banned for my family.

I understand the timelessness of the attraction and the history behind it. Truly, I have a great respect for it. To be perfectly honest, I have a hard time listening to most popular music because of how mindlessly repetitive it is. Small World is even worse by the standards I would apply to all music I listen to. And I appreciate that millions love the attraction as-is, but my question is besides that point. I'm relatively new to this board, so I don't want to overstep boundaries of protocol or come across as rude, but I do think it is possible to have a dissenting (and informed) opinion and don't think it's out of line to ask for potential workarounds for a component of an attraction that (if not addressed) may cause my party to skip the ride altogether.

Of course your entitled to your opinion, no were am I saying you do not.

The point being made is that WDW has various classic attractions. that hold great meaning to the guests that grew up and their families and grand families grew up with them. They hold tradition and the magic and pixie dust Walt created and many Disney imaginers after would mentioned.

To those millions around the world, it doesn't need to be changed. Don't fix what is not broken.

Which is why I would never advocate for the attraction to change the soundtrack, regardless of whether or not a personal aural experiment via headphones comes to fruition!

I loved some of the ideas above. I'm also considering pieces such as The Moldau, selections from Pictures at an Exhibition, popular music choices such as We Are the World or something along those merits.

Interestingly enough, a little Internet research suggested that the tentative sound track was going to multiple national anthems simultaneously, but it was scrapped. It might be quite trippy to listen to Stockhausen's "Hymnen" (which is an experimental piece of electronic music that incorporates several national anthems). With that said, the conception is more interesting than I feel the execution might be (the work is really, really, really, "weird"!).

But, like I said originally, it's not about advocating for Disney to change anything, but rather more a personal quest/thought experiment of an alternate take for someone who spends a great deal of time in sound sculpting and studying the hermeneutic implications of pairing music with experiences!

I suppose I think of Rip Ride Rockit, and how there is customization for the music you listen to while you ride. I'm not suggesting that Disney adopt this model, but it is an interesting question to consider, especially if it makes a classic ride more accessible to a segment of the population that might find the Small World theme untenable.

No problem, every one can explore within their own minds. However as I have pointed out that is nothing broken with the music and so something's should not be messed with.:rolleyes1

Well, not broken from a perspective of mass opinion, perhaps. But clearly I'm not the only person who finds the music problematic (judging on replies in this thread), so a qualification of not-brokeness would be subjective at best. And, in such a case, I'm not entirely sure why a reader would go into a thread request based in personal subjective grounds to dismiss the opinion (or proposal) of the original poster using an argument based on opinion. Anyways, that's neither here nor there, but I did want to qualify my stance on the "not broken" comment, because to me, it is, but never would I try to convince someone that their opinion was wrong based on what I felt was a majority view (however substantiated or not).

But by the fourth time through taking pictures of "London" and Instagramming it with the caption "Look, kids! Big Ben! Parliament!" gets old. (Well. For everyone else. Not me.)

Thank you for this!!!! Few things I love more than obscure pop culture references on the Disboards (that I actually get). Just googled when it came out, and can't believe it's now 30 years old...

Here's another:

BTW, it's a horrible shame the "Dive into Disney" album was never released anywhere but Japan!

Different ride, but I think it's still relevant to the topic:

(Note: don't encourage me!)

See, It was much more then opinion. It is the background of the attraction.............it is a classic Disney attraction, created by Walt himself and designed to provide a stage to bring the many of the countries of the world together. The music by the Sherman brothers, both music legends and head and shoulders above any of the music mentioned in the thread, most of which were ideas thrown out jokingly. As I mentioned before, it's loved by millions and that's a pretty big subjective base.

I would point out that if your going to present a question in a thread form you have to expect differing opinion.

So I stand by the fact a attraction that has lasted 49 years, often crowded, is in 4 parks(or is it 5??) and is loved by millions world wide is so much more then in the realm of the subjective......so I'll not hesitate to stand by its not broken, its a gem and a classic. I hope it continues to send out its glowing message that the countries of the world are in * Its a Small World*.

Yes, but no one is arguing that. You're answering a question he didn't ask.

I love IaSW, it's my first and last ride of every trip, but this is out of line. OP was never, and still isn't asking for your opinion on whether something should change, or how he can listen to the ride. He was asking for a list of music he can personally use to drown it out, and not to change the entire ride around. Is his use of an iPod really the end of the world? Your post is the equivalent of someone asking for recommendations on where to get a stroller rental and you tell them they're bad parents for renting a stroller.

Tonkas Skipper, I have to agree with some of the PPs. The OP has not said he wants to change the IASW music. He has no problem with other guests who want to listen to the IASW music as they ride through the attraction. He only asked for suggestions for alternative pieces of music that he ( and perhaps members of his party) could listen to via their iPods ( and earpieces). No need to berate the OP about what an irreplaceable classic the current music is or subject him to a lecture on Disney history.

Some of us understand the OP was hoping for a thread with some fun suggestions. Hopefully he'll get a few more. I'd be interested to see them as well.

I think this is a fun idea. I also laughed at the suggestion in Unofficial Guide that everyone should be given three softballs on the way in. And of course I think it is a classic that should not be touched even if I think this is funny.

I liked the idea of Pink Floyd suggested earlier, and I'm partial to "Comfortably Numb" (being a scary dentist and all).

Another idea I think of every time I ride this is the song from Shrek when he first enters Lord Farquad's kingdom:
