Back in planning mode for our next visit in July. As we did the parks to death in Feb we are considering other activities around Disney for this trip.

Suggestions so far are:

Discovery Cove: Not sure about this one as DD is only 7 and I am worried about the snorkeling (and the cost!! LOL)

Pirates adventure at the Grand Floridian: We have heard this is good but are not sure of the details/cost/booking procedures.

A couple of days at the beach: We have been to Daytona and Cocoa but never the gulf coast beaches so fancy giving that areat a try. Not sure on where to go/ what to do though.

Any info on the above or suggestions of other ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance for what I know will be great advice.

Sue,

Discovery Cove is brilliant especially if you do the dolphin swim. My oldest was 8 when we did it and she loved it so much. She took to the snorkelling like a fish to water "excuse the pun" but I have to say that it seemed to us that snorkelling was either something you found easy or very difficult. If the purse strings stretch I would definitely say to go for it, it really is a fantastic day out.

Pirates adventure we haven't done but it is something I was also looking at. It is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 till noon. The cost is $22.95 per child, you need a credit card for booking and it can be booked 120 days in advance on 407 939 3463. There is some info on it at wdwinf.com (under dining then just for kids).

Hope this helps

Cypress Gardens is very nice - it's a relaxing day out, with beautiful gardens, water skiing shows, and a very small water park for the little ones (really only for very little ones). we had a lovely day there a couple of years ago.

Try Anna Maria island close to St. Pete's. Our DD (whos 8) loved it last year. There's a beach and we found a pier with people fishing and saw loads of fish from the pier, and watched dolphins swimming around in the sea from a small restaurant at the end. The dolphins made her day!

Definately dont miss the Gulf Coast..its beautiful. Try:

The Sea Screamer at Clearwater (giant Speedboat that gets dolphins jumping in its wake)

Shelling on the beaches (Anna Maria Island, as previously mentioned is great for this).

St Johns pass. Quaint shopping/eating/boating area on Ocean Drive between Clearwater and St Petes.

Rent your own speedboat (expensive at £100 ish) but FUN!!

A boat cruise around all the waterfront properties to see how the other half live!! You will certainly see dolphins too! There is a Sunset cruise from Sarasota harbor that is great (free rum punch!!).

St Armands Circle at Sarasota is the only "roundabout" that I have ever seen in the States!!!!!!! It is a very posh shopping area with boutiques and galleries. There is also a great toy shop (Animal Crackers!) and bar (Cha Cha Coconuts) to sit outside and people watch. The beach is only a 1m walk and you are also in a "Manatee Zone" which is fun to watch for....(never seen a wild one yet though!!).

If you havent already then the Kennedy Space Center on the East coast is a fun day or half day.

Have fun
Allie
