I'm on the fence about buying DVC. Husband won't want to go to Disney every year. What are some of the other options you can use? I've heard of cruises. Are there any island getaways? How many points do these generally cost?
Thanks for any info.

It's really not a good economic chocie to buy DVC if you are going to use the points to do things other than stay at a DVC resort.

My advice is to buy enough points to go every other year. For example, if you will need 300 points for your biannual DVC stay, then buy only 150 points.

You can bank your first year points and travel in the second year. You can just pay cash for whatever your vacation desires are in the off years - and you wouldn't be limited to the choices DVC givces you for non-DVC vacations.

Best wishes -

Exploit the idea of not going to WDW "every year" and buy only enough points to go "every other year." Consider a strategy of buying fewer points then using points from combined years (via banking/borrowing) for your Disney trips. Doing so will leave more cash available for other forms of vacation, adventure and travel: camping, hotel stays, RV trips, cruising -- anywhere on the globe, any time, any vendor, any opportunity.

and you can use your points at Hilton Head Island , South Carolina and Vero Beach, Fl as well. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

That helped convince my hubby - he loved HHI and is fine (now) with 1 year OKW and next Year HHI- tho I personally see addons at HHI eventually- after we've bought in :lmao: pirate:

Does your husband like to golf or fish?
There are plenty of other things to do at and around Disney, without going to the parks every day. We bought SSR due to the golf courses (one right outside your window), DDT for shopping and resturaunts and the proximity to being able to get off site so easily.
SSR is very close to the expressway and you can get to downtown Orlando (Universal, BG / SW and outlet shopping) in under 20 minutes in the morning (well maybe 30 if you get behind a retiree :) ). Being close to the highway also allows you to make easy day trips to the Space Center or any of a number of other area attractions.

Good luck.

You know, my DH was not a WDW fan, but that all changed when he went on his first trip as a DVC member ( I bought, not he). He loves WDW now. He enjoys the villas, being able to get up, sit on the balcony, people watch, just in general, kick back and do his own thing and not have to spend all his vacation in the parks, fighting the crowds, being on his feet. We always stay at the BW or BC and I'll take off on my own while he watches football or baseball in the room relaxing. Around dusk, he'll walk over to Epcot, watch Off Kilter and other shows and the fireworks and then back to kick back (we do go during the daytime too), he's happy, I'm happy.
