I am loving that new tv reality show "Guiliana and Bill"....that is such a pretty name!!! She is very Italian!!!

I love this show...and her name!

Well, 80% of my town is Italian, and I didn't use any Italian names (well, except Anna, which is pretty ethnically broad) because my last name is very Italian. From the school directory:


Ava, Eva, Olivia, Daniella, Sophia, Isabella, Mia, Guilianna, Gianna (the last 2 are sisters), Alaina, Jenna, Gabriella, Julia, Adriana, Victoria, Deanna, Alyssa, Clementina, Alycia, Marlena, Alexandria...

Ava, Olivia, Sophia, Isabella, and Victoria seems to be plentiful, but not nearly as many as there are of Jennas and Julias! Several per page!

Most of the people in my family are Italian with matching names. Several names are repeated, too. We have two named Truci.

Truci (this is short for something else but what?)

Aunette (which is made-up. Pronounced Aw-naugh-TAY)

And most of these have Maria as the second name. Or Jean to be named the female form of Gino after an ancestor.

I think it is lame that we started Americanizing things. My great grand-mom is Sophia and so it went: Sophia had Ida. Ida had Donna. Donna named me Dawn. WHAT IS SO ITALIAN about Dawn? NOTHING!

That was the name of one of my aunts. It is beautiful!

I always liked the name Emily. Now my coworker's granddaughter is named "Emilia" which is the Italian way of saying/spelling it.

My DD's best friend's name is Margreta, I like it a lot but that's not very Italian. I looked up some Italian names and the ones I like are:

That's so funny ~ my Julia is the only one in her school of 900 students (K-12). LOL

I also like Louisa (not necessarily Italian but sounds like it). That was my #1 pick for my daughter but it got shot down.

Sophia- is a lovely name but very overdone and over used.
