Me and my boyfriend will be heading that way in about 2 weeks for a conference and we are going to be staying at the swan. During the day he will be in the conference (its like 7-5) and I will be by my self. I was wondering if ya'll could help me out and tell what all I could do during the day. I am planning on going to the pool ( hopefully the weather is nice enough) and maybe going to the boardwalk but not really sure of anything else. Thank you for all the help. I can't wait:cloud9:

I vote for going to the parks ... between 7 and 5 you can do a lot of fun stuff. Honestly, solo or not, I can't imagine being on property and not going to the parks for as many hours as possible. And yes, I've done the solo thing a few times and it's really fun.

BUT! If your BF would be jealous of you parking-it without him, you could swing over to the Boardwalk to check things out. Or to Downtown Disney for some shopping. Or maybe a waterpark if the weather is warm enough. Or maybe just take a tour of the other resorts on property. It's as simple as hopping a bus from a theme park or from Downtown Disney to get to other resorts. If you're looking for suggestions, I love WL, AKL, GF, just to name a few.

Have fun!!

Thank you. Now if I was to go to the diff resorts is there anything to do there or is it just looking at all of them to take them in. Never really been to any of the resorts. We will be going to epcot on Fri (emh) but I really want to wait on him for that kind of stuff.

Ride the monorail, Stop and visit all the resorts. Take a boat ride from your resort to MGM or DDD and back. Go to Fort Wilderness. Check out the resort. It's beautiful. Rent a golf cart or a bike and ride around.

There are many things to do besides the parks. Of course the parks are great too. You can shop main st. in MK. That's one of my favorite things to do.

That resort has a lot of solo people hanging around while someone is at a converence. Buddy up and go to a park. Have fun!

I would really enjoy DW by myself.:)

I am a scardy cat when it comes to go to places like parks by myself or else i would go in a heart beat. So you say shop at main st but if I was to do that then I would have to buy a full day ticket right.?

My husband will be at a convention for a week in July. He will be in session from about 9 to 2 during the week so I'll eat breakfast with him most days and maybe a lunch or two, but I have my schedule pretty well planned out to do the things he doesn't like to do on my own. I'll do the shows he doesn't care for and check out some of the other hotels and shops. I'm not a thrill ride person but maybe I'll pick up a Fast Pass or two for him on the days when I've planned that he'll meet me in a park after his convention meeting lets out. This is not our first visit so there are only a few that he hasn't done before. We are going a couple days early and staying an extra day so we will be able to make rope drop at parks if we want to and this trip eat at the Castle and the luau, things we missed last trip due to Hurricane Jeanne biting off one end of our vacation.

If you want to shop other than at the hotels go to Downtown Disney. You don't need a park ticket there.

We'll be at a monorail resort which will allow my aging bones to cover more ground. There are sights to see everywhere. You can pick up guide books such as The Complete Walt Disney World or Hidden Mickeys at any bookstore or your local library which will give you more ideas.

The last convention was in Vegas, not my cup of tea, and I did not leave the hotel without my husband because I didn't feel secure doing so. I have no problem going anywhere at Disney by myself.

Whatever you decide to do you will have a great time!

If you want to wait for your boyfriend to go to the parks, then everyone has good ideas. If you decide to resort hop check out the activities before you go. For example the Poly has a torch lighting ceremony & hula demonstrations some days. Over at French Quarter/Riverside they have cane pole fishing available, Wilderness Lodge has a segway tour & archery (maybe horese back riding too if I remember right). Animal Kingdom Lodge has the Savanah with the animals and some days they have a story teller @ the fire pit. Each resorts website will have information on what they have going on & when.

If you do have your park tickets and can bring yourself to go in w/out your boyfriend during the day consider a tour. Maybe the Epcot Segway tour, Behind the Seeds tour at the Land, the Train tour @ MK. They have a lot of them available of different lengths, cost & type. And you can go in & out of the park in the same day on one ticket, so you could go do the tour, then head back to the room & meet up w/your BF & head back to the park w/no hassle.

There is mini-golf, I think Fantasia Garden is near where you will be staying. The boardwalk has several shops & restaurants. If you are a sports fan hit the ESPN club. DTD has a movie theatre, Disney Quest (think arcade on steroids), shops, restaurants, balloon ride, and they have different street activities going on during the day. I think one of the marinas has parasailing available if you are feeling very adventerous.

Of course, there is a spa at the the Sw'olfphin (Swan/Dolphin) :lmao:. So maybe treat yourself one day. And the idea of just hanging at the pool & relaxing one or two days sounds really nice too.

I would say check out WDW's website & see what they have going on those days at the different places & that can help you decide what to do each day while your BF is working. I'm sure whatever you decide to do you'll have a fun time! :thumbsup2

I went to Disneyland's Magic Kingdom solo last year after a conference. It was a blast to experience it at my own pace, wandering around and taking in the scenery, as well as getting some ice cream to watch the parade and fireworks. BUT, it was very awkward when it came to the rides! I only rode a couple, because each time I would get stuck with a dad in a family that had an uneven number. I'm sure they were wondering about me!

Either way, what I would suggest is to go to Epcot! You can shop in each country, pick up a pastry in France, a drink in Mexico or England...I've done this before when everyone else wanted to stand in the hour long lines for the rides at Epcot. It was a great experience.

You can shop on Main St. for about an hour free of charge. Go to Guest Relations and ask for a 1 hour shopping pass. They take a credit card and drivers license #, but it's an hour of shopping!

I think I heard on the podcast recently that they stopped doing this a couple of years ago. I'm not certain, so verify that info.

As to the original question--if I was in your shoes, I would go to the parks. If you are worried about your safety, I think that Disney has to be one of the safest places to be as long as you take normal precautions. If you are worried about what other people will think, then don't because they will be so focused on their own trip that they won't even notice you are alone. If they do notice, they won't know that your group isn't just around the corner or that you're the only one that likes this ride, or whatever. I'd spend those two weeks wandering around the parks, riding rides, shopping, and people watching. The price of the ticket only increases by a few dollars once you've bought the first 2 or 3 days.

If you really don't want to go to the parks, then I would do a tour of the hotels. Maybe have lunch at a new place each day. You can also go to Downtown Disney to shop and eat. If you wouldn't think twice about going to the mall by yourself, then you really shouldn't worry about doing any of this by yourself.

Have fun!

You should definitely go to the parks. I am going myself in about 3 weeks alone. Disney is one of the safest places and people are so nice. No one will notice you are alone, they are busy going about their day. Trust me, you will not feel uncomfortable since there is so much to look at.

I would go to Epcot (since it's so close to the Swan) and then take a monorail over to Magic Kingdom. You can also get a boat shuttle over the Hollywood Studios easily from The Swan.

The Swan has a beautiful pool area and grounds, so that will be nice too, in addition to walking around the Boardwalk. Enjoy your time there and definitely go to the parks. You won't regret it!
