I've been to Disneyworld twice (I know for you veterans that is not much) and both times I was lucky enough to get exactly the room I requested. When we stayed at the ASMo I requested Dalmations b/c my then 5 year old daughter was obsessed with the 101 Dalmations. We got it. Then last year I requested a lake view close to Epcot at the BC and by golly we couldn't have been any closer to Epcot (we had the very last room with a view). It was perfect soooo My husband finally agreed to the Polynesian and last night we carefully studied the map. We paid for GV only so we decided we wanted to "request" a balcony room in Tuvalu, Fiji, or Tahiti. Then.... I found the Tikiman site omg it is awesome! But based on studying all his comments and pictures, and the fact that we only paid for GV, I am now thinking we should request Tokelau or Aotearoa! I'm so confused. Maybe you Poly veterans can help...

We don't want to be right in the middle of all the action by the pool (i.e., Samoa). We don't mind walking at all. We would LOVE the opportunity for one of those "suprise" lagoon views, or a view of the GF even though we paid for garden view. But honestly we wouldn't mind pretty garden views or even a view of the monorail would be fun for the kids. My head is spinning with all the choices. My husband says he wants a balcony most of all. I would rather have more of a view (water, marina, beach, monorail, all of the above:lmao:) whether or not we got a patio or a balcony. So that's our dilemma. What should we request???????:scratchin

I totally understand your dilemma, as DH and I have been going through the same thing. If I were you (based on YOUR priorities), I would place my request like this: "We really would love a room with a balcony, preferably in Fiji, Aotearoa, or Rarotonga (monorail side), in that order of preference." Fiji has stunning garden views from both sides. I think that Aotearoa is one of the least-requested buildings, but most of the third floor rooms have beautiful views of the monorail on one side or beach on the other...in fact, you may end up on the lagoon side for a garden price, that would be magical! I personally like the views from 3rd floor rooms better than 1st, so if view is important, I'd go with 3rd.

Sorry, double post!

I found a few shots of our 1st floor Lagoon View room in the Tuvalu longhouse. Our room was 1405 which was right on the corner of the longhouse. The roped-off side made it feel so private, cozy and enclosed, especially with all the tropical plants. Right outside our room was the sliding door that led to...the quiet beach! Lots of hammocks, a swing and a quiet place to watch the fireworks, see the EWP and get a breathtaking view of the GF.

I requested 3rd floor (for balcony) and monorail view (my DD loves the monorail) whatever we get we are staying at the POLY and thats all that matters :banana::banana:

I'll tack on to the great advice BCV23 gave.

In August 2007 I took my DD, two nephews and godsister (known on the thread here as the Terror Squad) to WDW and we stayed at the Poly. I *requested* the Samoa longhouse facing the volcano pool but told the kids that we'd be staying at the Poly. All they cared about was being able to stay for once at a Disney resort instead of a timeshare.

When I checked in, the CM checked my ressie, lowered her voice and said my request had been fulfilled! I was stunned because frankly I wasn't expecting to get it. She said only about 9 rooms face dead on to the Volcano pool and they were the *most* requested. I told the kids and when we saw the CM near Captain Cooks she said, "You'd best thank this lady--she really got a treat for you guys!"

I guess that's a long-winded way of saying it's great to put in a request but that's exactly what it is, a *request*. BCV23 has given you great advice and I agree with her.

Plus, you're going to be at the Poly!

MsStinkerbelle, that's a great story and illustrates the flip side to my point of view very well. I think it's great that you had your expectations in check and didn't unrealistically build those of the "Terror Squad." :rotfl: What a great aunt and mom you are. I'm so glad your request was fulfilled!:wizard:

I agree with ZuZu03...what a beautiful picture of your DD!

MsStinkerbelle,
We stayed in Tuvalu our 1st 2 trips to the Poly-once on the lagoon side & once garden-your pics are just like ours!!! Beautiful girl too! We will be leaving Monday but are staying CL so we will be in the Hawaii longhouse. :goodvibes

And... knock on wood... we didn't get the exact room we requested... but we got Tahiti, 1st floor "very close to the requested room." FINGERS CROSSED IT IS TRUE!!!

At the Poly in less than 4 days!

I am confused?? How do you talk to the room assigners?
Thanks for any information.

By this time tomorrow, I'll be on a plane heading to Poly!!!!:cool1:

...and I see you're on the dis filling every last minute planning...just like I do! Have a wonderful trip and be sure to come back and fill us in on everything...I'd love to know more about the castle refurb...and how everything looks with the water drained around the castle! :sad2:

MsStinkerbelle,
Thanks for sharing all the pics of Tuvalu and your gorgeous DD....looks like a magical spot and I like the idea of walking back to our room at night along the torch-lit marina! At this point I'm *hoping* for Tuvalu 1st or 3rd floor, or Tahiti 3rd or 2nd floor. I think that leaves me lots of room for getting the room I"m hoping for. And if I end up with Aotearoa, I can always ask to be switched :) After listening to my DD tonight though, I am just so excited. She actually cried tonight because she thinks we're not staying at the Poly and she was telling me how sad she was. (It took everything I had to not break down and tell her). I only have a little over four weeks to go, so hopefully I can keep the secret that long! Just wait until we get to our room and she looks out the window at the castle and the lagoon!

I am extremely envious! I was considering packing myself up in a box and shipping myself to the Poly...:rolleyes1

Have a wonderful trip. Make sure you come back and give us a full report!

from my very first trip to the Poly. Wow! It was absolutely Polytastic! :cool1: DW and I had a fabulous four night stay. We both (especially me) fell in love with this resort. From the very moment we stepped off the DME bus and were greeted with leis and alohas we knew that we were "home". I'll be doing a trip report later, but thought I'd pass along some observations.

...I had requested Fiji 3rd floor and got Raratonga 2nd floor (room 2821 -faces monorail). :confused3 For a moment I started to ask for another room, but figured I'd just go with the flow and see what kind of unexpected treat was in store. As it turns out we were very happy with Raratonga room 2821. The view included about 40 feet of beautiful trees and plants, and a wonderful view of the monorail. We didn't miss having a balcony or patio.

...Weather was outstanding. The cold snap shortly before we arrived was gone, and we experienced daytime temps in the 70's along with comfortable -although seasonably cool -evenings.

...We loved walking round the resort, especially at night while the tiki torches were lit. We strolled over to the Grand Floridian one night using the pathway that runs by teh wedding chapel and spa. Gorgeous and romantic walk!

...Staying at a monorail resort is something I loved so much that I may never go back to mods or values again! We never waited more than five minutes for monorail. It was so nice to be able to hop over to MK any time we wanted. We are fools for the MK and spent time there every single day.

...Our room had two light bulbs burnt out in the bathroom when we checked in. Maintenance came and fixed them right away, soon after we left for a park. Also, mousekeeping was a bit spotty. No shampoo or soap in the room, which we did not notice until we were ready to take a shower late our first night. Again housekeeping sent someone right up with lots of shampoo and soap. The marble countertop on top of the refrigerator cabinet had circles on it where folks had left drinks and had not cleaned up. The mousekeepers never did clean that. I didn't even mention this as I had already had to call twice (lightbulbs and toiletries) the first day and did not wish to be known as a complainer.

...The lobby and grounds were so relaxing. DW and I just sat in the lobby several times. sometimes sharing a bottle of wine and other times just gazing at the lovely waterfall. One afternoon a nice lady came and gave us free cookies! She gave me two because she said "men need them more". :goodvibes

...Now that I have watched Wishes from Poly beach I never ever want to see Wishes from Main Street again. Fantastic view! NO crowds! Just sitting on a swinging bench and hugging my honey.

...The hammocks were a mini-vacation unto themselves. A couple of times DW and I laid in them and took an afternoon respite from the parks. Just absolutely wonderful!

...We didn't eat at Ohana, but very much enjoyed breakfast at Kona. We each had ham and cheese omelets with potatoes and fruit. The fresh-squeezed OJ was delicious. The famed coffee was just OK by me. Better than the usual Nescafe, but nothing to jump up and down about IMO. They gave DW and I a little dessert after breakfast in honor of our anniversary.

...This is undoubtedly the most pampered I have ever felt on vacation. Between having the dining plan for the first time, access to the monorail, the lush Poly theme, the park hoppers, and impeccable CM interaction -this is the way I ALWAYS want to do WDW from now on. As far as I'm concerned I don't need to stay anywhere else but the Poly. If it costs a little more I'll just save up longer. My only little complaint was the housekeeping which I thought was something less than I would expect for a deluxe resort. But that concern was eased after the very first day.

Any questions? I'll be glad to answer.

Yay! Sounds as if you had a magical (and romantic!) time! Good for you! And now you're hooked, aren't you? I think we all know exactly what you mean! Can't wait to go back!!
