My dad mentioned the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. DH and I have never done this but were thinking of this for mom, dad, DH and myself on a non-park night. What's the consensus on this show/food? Worth it?

This gets mixed reviews. I myself have not done it but planned to this next trip. I figured that we have to try it :thumbsup2

A few people just returned, so maybe they have something to tell you about it! :flower3:

I know it varies by resort - What does the Poly have available for the refillable mugs? Specifically, is there any sort of juice?

Hey Poly fans! I am going for the first time 11/1. All I know about the Poly is from what you guys have said and the pictures you have posted ..so thanks! Someone posted my q about hair care products but it was at the POR. I was very curious what the hair care products were at the Poly?
Enjoyed first stay at Polynesian Resort on Sept 22-29, 2009. The conditioner provided did not detangle my hair, which has some natural wave to it. Thus, you may want to bring a travel-sized bottle of a favorite brand if you normally use a detangler/conditioner.

1) LOCATION!!! LOCATION!!! LOCATION!!!
2) Relaxed atmosphere
3) Friendly CMs
4) Lush foliage
5) Transportation options! The monorail service was down for a little more than 24 hours of our trip. DD and I were in line to ride the monorail (just before they shut it down) over to the the Grand Floridian for a princess tea party. DH and DS had just departed (with our car) to the FAntasia Gardens Mini Golf course. I knew there was a walking path to the GF. THANKFULLY, I found that...hot footed it over to the GF and made it in time for our tea party! Location of the poly was key! There is also a boat that goes Poly >>>> MK >>>>GF>>>>Poly (I think that's the route).
6) Large rooms
7) day bed for dd so DD and DS could have their own beds....both are tossers/turners so this provided great sleep for them.
8) The restaurant options (at the Poly) and at the GF and CR (quick monorail or boat ride over).
9)wildlife - we saw ducks, herons, lizards, a frog, and a bunny on our stay!

Thanks for the review! Where did you stay? We all love to hear Longhouse reviews

We stayed in a Garden View room in Tahiti (which is exactly what we requested). :thumbsup2 I faxed a "reminder" room request 3 days before our arrival. We were assigned a 2nd floor room in Tahiti, right in the middle of the building. All Tahiti rooms have balconies or a patio. Many other longhouses do not have "true" balconies on their 2nd floors. We had a great view of a walking path with lush vegetation.

Tahiti is one of the newer longhouses, has 2 sinks (which was great) and large rooms. Actually, all rooms at Poly are large in comparison to most other resorts. So you can't go wrong there! There's a shelf above the sink/ counter that extends the length of the sink and counter....plenty of room for toothbrushes, etc. Closets are lit. Plenty of lighting over the beds.....they had dimmers so they were perfect for night lights for our little ones. One less thing to pack! :)

I brought clothespins to keep the curtains closed tight (keeping out morning light), but we didn't need them. THe curtains overlapped on their own.

No problems with Mousekeeping. Extra towels were delivered promptly upon request. WE did not utilize this service every day.

We did have a crying baby next door one night, and could clearly hear him or her through the connecting door area. However, we had a sound machine my DH purchased from drugstore*dot*com. HoMedics brand sound spa machine $19.99. It worked PERFECTLY in drowning out any unwanted noise. My kids are used to sleeping w/white noise machines so it was a "must pack." I have heard you can request a box fan...as you've been discussing here.....but I found this sound machine to be a great remedy and fairly compact for packing.

Tahiti location review: For us, this was the perfect longhouse. It was probably a 10 min. walk (with little ones walking an easy pace) from Tahiti to the volcano pool, Great Ceremonial House, Poly monorail, TTC monorail, Captain Cooks, marina...and maybe 5 minutes max to the quiet pool. We used the volcano pool nearly every day (and we didn't mind the walks at all). For us, it was nice to get back to the quite atmosphere of Tahiti :cloud9: after busy days in the parks/pools. If you like to be "in the midst of the action" :woohoo: I'd request one closer to the pool....Hawaii, Samoa, Niue.

Quiet Pool Review: This was the pool my kids preferred (quieter, less crowded), but it was closed probably 3 out of our 6 days there (for cleaning). There are a few ducks that like to hang out there, and one day we could see all the duck feathers, etc. floating. I guess that's why it had to be cleaned so often??? But it was great to see them really keeping up with the pool maintenance so well.

They did some pressure washing of the buildings while we were there....all fresh and clean, as well as the sidewalks.

Kona Cafe for dinner - my DH's favorite meal while we were there.

Captain Cooks - great variety, good food. We were always able to find table space (outside) for our meals, even at peak times.

Torch Lighting Ceremony - Currently this is at 6pm Tuesdays - Saturdays. The whole family enjoyed this ceremony. Our kids even requested to go see it again another night, but it didn't work out.

Don't forget to catch the Electrical Water Pageant (currently 9pm nightly) from the beach or inspiration point at least one night of your stay. You can also see the Wishes or Hallowishes fireworks from there. We did this 3 nights of our stay....for our young ones, this was the PERFECT way to view fireworks. They thought it was loud from the Poly...I cannot imagine how their ears would have handled it INSIDE the park.

Hi Everyone - thanks for all the great pics and information in this and previous Poly threads!

I leave in 5 days for a week at the Poly! After years and years of dreaming of staying here, it's finally happening!

Quick question - do the rooms have DVD players? I am thinking "no" based on the pics I have seen...if not, are there front-access inputs on the TVs to easily hook up a portable DVD player?

Thanks in advance for the info :)

The Club Level rooms are the only ones that come with DVD players, so they are not included in the standard rooms.

I just got back from our trip to WDW and a stay at AKL. I loved the AKL and we're booked to stay there for a few days next year when we go. We did have a breakfast at Ohana (where we were seated at 12:15 :scared1:), so we walked through the Poly a little bit. It was beautiful and I'm excited to go back there. While we didn't have any problems with the bus service from AKL, I believe I whimpered a bit seeing the boat dock on our way to the buses after leaving MNSSHP. It would have been pretty fantastic to just hop on the boat and be so close to our beds.

I will post a more complete review of our experience of the Spirit of Aloha show (10/2) as soon as I figure out how to download my pictures of our "view". Yes, the show is cheezy (we don't mind) and the dancing is good. But, YIKES, we paid $280 for category I seating and half of our party could not see the stage at all. They were completely sold out (free dining) and could not move us. We were nice about our request, but they were rude in response. Be forewarned, about 50% of Category I seating have very obstructed views. After the show, there were 5 or 6 mothers standing by the pool talking about their "sucky" seats and how ripped off they felt, so I know it wasn't just us. During the seating, I asked the manager how one would get the good seats and she said "you have to call the first day" (I assume she meant the first day you were entitled to make a reservation). For the record, we did call "the first day" and got the very back of the ground level, next to those tubs they dunk the dirty plates in. Our server was also AWOL for most of the show. We would have done much better just sitting on the beach watching fireworks and eating Dole Whip! It would have been nice if the CM's had at least been gracious about it (or apologetic), or if our server had been quick to refill our drinks. We won't be doing that show again! (Rest of vacation was great, btw...I don't want to scare anyone).

I asked a couple of pages ago, but it got lost in the shuffle...

Anyone ever stay in Tokelau on the first floor, near the beach? That's the room request I made and I'm hoping it's a good one. I'm going based on Tikiman's pictures, but the ones on the site were taken in 1992! A lot can grow in that amount of time...

Thanks for your help

Only 41 days to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

We had a similar experience when we went in 2007. Horrible view, really bad server and my DD left her camera on the table. We went back within minutes and it was gone - no sign of it anywhere. We had been the last to leave the table, so someone had to be pretty quick to get it before we returned. Way different experience from the very first time I went when I was 14!

Well we loved the luau and had front & center seats (which you can see I think by the few photos I posted) - I hadn't done the luau since I was a kid in the 1970s! My husband wanted to do it and despite the fact that he was sick as a dog that night, and my kids basically eat nothing, so I was about the only one who ate anything, it was still worth it for us.

I wouldn't do it every trip, but every 5 years or so. We thought it was corny but fun.

We paid OOP as well because we don't do the DDP, but I didn't find it to be wasted money.

And to the PP - I have stayed in Tokelau, but not "near the beach" - I assume that just means you want that end of the building, since Tokelau runs perpendicular to the beach, not parallel to the beach. We had a 2nd floor room (I think) overlooking the quiet pool, which was great.

So how do we get up front seats? We have category 1, paid instead of using DDP. I guess, within category 1, they seat people upon arrival so should we go very early? Is there a line to get in? If so, I think I will stand in line oh a lapu lapu while Mom gets ready with our son... Any tips on getting up front seats? Thank you all so much.

Anyone rent boats at the Poly? Please tell me which one and did you enjoy it. How far can you go? Any restrictions on how far you can go? We have 3 people, maybe 5 on a day family in FL is visiting so we will get a larger boat not a sea racer. Thank you from a first time Poly guest.

Seats for the luau are assigned by when you call, not by when you arrive at the venue. Hoop Dee Doo is the same way. I believe we had an advantage because we were staying club level and the IPO staff probably gets first crack at the best tier 1 seats BUT there were many people sitting at the tables all around us (front row tier 1) who were not staying club level, I'm sure - there was a party of about 15 next to us and I hadn't seen them in the club building all week. So it really is about who calls first.

Good morning everyone!

Well, 4 weeks from now, I will be waking up at the Poly...YAY!!

As you can see by my ticker, this is a complete surprise for my DH. We are DVC owners, and he thinks we are staying at OKW for our anniversary trip. He has always wanted to stay at the Poly, so to celebrate our 20 years together, I'm surprising him!

Now, my problem is how to tell him! I'd love to find some creative way to spring the surprise. Do I tell him before we actually leave on 11/1? Do I just give him a card on the plane or on ME when we are on our way? I was thinking of telling him we have an ADR close to our Orlando arrival time, so we have to take ME right to the Poly or we will miss it (we always go to the Poly for at least 1 dinner each trip anyway). Then, doing something either at the front door or at check-in to surprise him.

I don't know....HELP!! I'm looking for some creative ideas!! :headache:

I'm sorry we missed your question. Not sure if you requested a room number, but if so it would be best to call back and request: "Tokelau, first floor, near beach". This will give the room assigner a better idea what what you'd like. When you give a room number and that room is not available because another guest is already occupying it, then the room assigner could put you anywhere b/c they do not know why that room was requested.

Personally, this has never made sense to me, because one would assume the next closest available room to the room requested would be assigned, but that is not how it works with Disney.

We've stayed in Tokelau several times, but we always request a 3rd floor room. So far, they have been able to accommodate our requests. It is a great location, quiet, but not in the heart of the action, but very convenient.

Happy planning and congratulations on returning the Polynesian!:cheer2: We stayed there for 10 years every trip, then it was 16 years until our next stay (busy trying other resorts and fell in love with GF), so I know how exciting it is to return. :goodvibes

We;ve always enjoyed renting a Pontoon Boat - these do not go fast, but are a lot of fun. We would take lunch aboard and enjoy going around the Lagoon and Bat Lake. The Pontoon's are pricey, but worth it!

Have a wonderful stay!!!!

Sammy,
How about putting a lei around his neck when you land at the airport and say, "Happy Anniversary, DH! We're celebrating at the Polynesian! "

Have a wonderful anniversary trip! You arrive 4 weeks before me and my husb. I can't wait to return! :)

Over the years we've rented pontoons, Sea Raycers, little sailboats and a catamaran at the Polynesian. All are great fun. As Minnie&Nana said, you can go all over Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. There is a fairly large area of Bay Lake that is off bounds as well as the area in front of the MK. Plenty of area to have fun.

Cool idea.:surfweb:

Hi Poly lovers,
We just got back on Sunday from 8 days at the Polynesian. It was awesome! We stayed Lagoon view club level. The hotel was beautiful, the room was clean, all the CM's we met were wonderful! Having access to the lounge was great! We definately got our money's worth from breakfast (we are light breakfast eaters), afternoon snacks, and beer and rum punch (yummy!). We spent alot of afternoons at the pool, and Steve and Tim at the pool bar are the best! They were joking with my kids all week, and made them great smoothies! The weekends were crowded, but midweek was pretty quiet. My kids loved Cap'n Cooks, DH and I loved 'Ohana. Caught the torch lighting one night - so cool!! We also had the kids characitures done at the hotel - they came out great, they are my favorite souvenier. Never waited more than 5 minutes for a monorail or a bus , even one night/morning when the monorail was down. We sent the kids to the Neverland club one night, they had alot of fun. Honestly, I can't think of anything bad to say about the hotel at all. I would LOVE to stay there again someday!
Any questions - I'll be happy to answer!!!:goodvibes
