We're looking forward to our first Poly stay coming up soon!

I asked this question on the old thread, but I think it got closed before anyone could answer. I would love to watch the fireworks from the beach at night or two during our stay? I see on the map there are 2 beaches. Does one have a better view than the other? Where should we sit in order to hear the music too?

Thanks!

You can have two very different experiences from the beaches at the Poly. The beach behind Figi, near the luau cove is almost empty of certain nights when the Luau is not running (Sunday and Monday). DH and I would get a beer from Samoa Snack and sit on lounge chairs while DD played in the sand and we watched the fireworks. On this beach we could not hear the music.

On a different night we stayed by the pool area and got a cocktail at the Barefoot bar and shared the chair swing while watching the fireworks and EWP. We could hear the music clearly here. DD played with the other kids on the beach while we relaxed and enjoyed the show :cool1:

Have fun :sunny:

I just called the Disney Florist and for an Adult carnation Lei its $45 and for a Child its $35. Did a search online there is a Florist in Tampa that does Plumeria Leis minimum order of 5 leis for $125 inlcuding FedEx shipping. I think I might give that a try as there are four of us and it would be $160 for Carnations or $125 for Plumeria.

Edit to add I was just searching on line and found serval Hawaiian Florists that will ship a variety of Orchid and other lei's FedEX and its still cheaper than the Carnations at WDW

One for example:

I booked through Magical Vacations, but didn't hear anything about a "tiki plan"??? Anyone know what this is all about?

If you ask for the "Tiki Plan" you're essentially telling *** that you found out about them from Tikiman, and they do something special for you like a gift basket in your room with a tropical theme, and maybe a few other surprises. They are not really specific about what exactly it is, perhaps it changes depending upon what is available.

I spoke to Lisa at *** and she told me that if you book those exclusive rates that they only offer at certain times, then you can't get the Tiki Plan. I guess they are offering such a great rate, how could they possibly put perks on top of that?! I'm booking through them, too, and so far I am very satisfied with the information and assistance I have gotten from Lisa!

Have a Magical Vacation!

Thank you....that's exactly what I wanted to know. I did book rates they offer at certain times, so it looks like we won't be eligible for the Tiki Plan. I'm very happy with the rate I got through Magical Vacations, and Lisa has been wonderful to work with, so I'm ok with that! :)

Thanks BreezysMom!! I've saved this to reference while we're there. A cockatil at the pool bar is a great idea:goodvibes.

DB and I had reservations for Poly CL for last August. I broke my ankle in June and had to cancel the trip :sad2:
My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2010 and decided to take the family to Disney. The sweethearts that they are, they asked to stay in the POLY!! DB can't attend due to work but the rest of the family is sooooo excited....as am I for my first stay :yay:

We are taking my nephew (2 years old) for his first visit to see Mimi (Mickey in his language). Is he too young for the luau? Since he is the first little guy in the family I was wondering if there is anything I should make sure we do with him while at the Poly?

:dance3:

We're staying at the Poly for three nights before our Disney cruise in February. We can't wait!

Thanks to the tip from the folks here at the DISBoards, I also got a great rate from Lisa at Magical Vacations!

Love the plumeria leis but if anyone plans to order any from Hawaii they will not ship those to the east coast-very fragrant but very delicate as well. We have ordered them for delivery for special occasions & for the most part they have never had any bad ones. The florist in Tampa that you mentioned sounds like a very good price too!!!

(BreezysMom - Wow! Thanks so much for all of your work in putting the new thread together. It looks great! I like your new avatar as well.)

I was looking at the menus for the various dining options at the Poly, and noticed that there was no mention of pizza delivery. Do they have pizza delivery at the Poly, or is that only at the mods and values? TIA!

Isn't it great?

As much as I was sad to take my puppy's pic down I had to share DD's pumpkin. We went apple picking yesterday and got her a little pumpkin. On the way home we stopped at Walgreens and they had the pumpki decor there among other great Disney Halloween stuff! You just stick the parts into the pumkin and you get a Vampire Mickey!

Now if I could figure out how to get a pumpkin to Disney I would bring Mickey with us! I think packing a pumpkin might put us over our weight limit :lmao:

Get a big styrofoam craft ball, carve some grooves in it & paint it orange!
We have made some little jack-o-lanterns out of foam balls to bring with us. We always decorate a lot at home for Halloween and it just wouldn't be the same without some festive decor in our room! (we're also bringing a funky bat garland and some Disney Halloween window clings)

Maia you are a crazy little thing! :cool1: Your kids are so lucky because you are going all out for this trip! Do you have to pay luggage fees from Canada?

I got a couple of little things at Walgreens to put in the room. a Mickey ghost head and pumpkin head and a Mickey pumpkin trick or treat bucket. You can see them here.

DD has been bugging us about not having pumpkins this year so I find it funny that we end up getting her one and we make it a Mickey pumpkin!

Last year she was ticked because we did not get a real Christmas tree due to the fact that we spent 9 days at Disney so I put a fake table top tree up.

Poor kid, so neglected! :rotfl:

Hmm, I wonder if the TSA counts the goopy inside of a pumpkin as a gel/liquid...;)

Good morning everyone!

My countdown is moving verrrry slowly, but in the meantime, I'm getting lots of good information here!

Does anyone know if the resort gift shops have coffee mugs that are "Poly-specific"? DH and collect mugs and I would love to have a couple with a Polynesian design or logo.

Off to get ready for work (ugh...) Have a good day everyone!

I have also been collecting mugs from my favorite WDW resorts, and I have to say that I was disappointed with the mugs at the Poly compared to the other resorts. I actually didn't end up buying one and was hoping next time we go there would be a prettier mug! They were very plain, maybe brown with just Polynesian Resort written on it. Nothing fancy or vibrant like the resort itself  I asked a CM and she said she wasn't impressed with the selection either :)

Oh, you don't know the half of it! :lmao:
Actually there is a method to my madness. Many years ago my DH took my stepdaughter to WDW as a single dad when she was four or five. He only has bad memories of the trip, carrying her around everywhere, hot, long lines, etc. So he's been a bit of a Disney skeptic. With this trip I'm trying to convince him that we can have a great time and hopefully go back again (and again!) before all of our kids are in college! If my plan fails at least I've gone all out this time for our 4 & 7 year olds so they'll have a memorable trip.

We are actually flying out of Detroit on Northwest, so yes, we will have baggage fees! Fortunately our younger kids are both bringing full size suitcases, so I'll have room to squeeze in a few extras like the Halloween stuff. And, as I said our faux jack-o-lanterns are small - the foam balls we used are only about 2" or 3" in diameter.

Woohoo! New Poly thread! I took my theatre class to a performance on Friday by the Maori Dance Theatre of New Zealand and almost cried when they performed dances from all the islands. Man I can't wait to get to the Poly!

Going in late October and looking forward to our first trip to the Poly. We are not planning to attend MNSSHP during oru stay, so on a couple of nights, we'll be leaving the MK around 7 or so. If we want something for the kids from the afternoon service but don't arrive to the Club until after 7pm, will there be anything available? For example, willl they have the PB&J or lettuce wraps available or are these put away completely at 7pm?

Thanks!

They might have the PB&J sandwiches still available at 8:00 PM with the desserts and if they don't you can ask for some. However the Lettuce Wraps are taken away for good at 7:00 PM.
