ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

What kind of coffee filters do I need to pick up so that my dad can function in the morning? I wouldn't want to have to kill him on our first morning of vacation. :rotfl: in all my Disney stays I have never even touched the coffee pot in the room!

They usually have pre packaged pods which I hear is some kind of nasty coffee. I have never used them myself but I would think the 4 cup round would be ok.

Leaving for WDW and staying at POLY for the first time on 9/29/11
Can't wait.

:welcome:

I hope you have an incredible trip!:wizard:

Make sure you come back and tell us how your trip went :goodvibes

Good Morning everyone :flower3:

It is rainy and cold here in Chicago but I don't care because we only have five weeks to go :woohoo:

Yesterday we got the ME luggage tags :dance3: I always love Mickey Mail!!

Everyone also got new shoes and I got a few other things for the trip :rolleyes1 I still am determined not to over pack but at the rate I am going, I may fail miserably :lmao:

All the Poly people there and getting ready to go...have a magical time :wizard:

I can speak for many when I say we want trip report and pictures :worship:popcorn::

Happy Sunday :goodvibes

Ridiculously cold. But 3 MORE DAYS till we are warm!! DBF has gone to the storage closet for another suitcase because I am at 48.5 pounds, and have not packed shoes, undergarments, socks, cosmetics. I guess that's $35 less in souvenirs we buy this week! Or, I could have fewer Lapu Lapus. But that won't be happening! In my next life I am going to be less vain and thus able to travel with less clothes!

I guess it helped at WL that we were upgraded for free and the trip itself ran smooth! The kids were younger and it was our first deuxe stay. We've never stayed value because of the discount codes. Moderate wise we've only stayed at CSR which was fine-except so spread out, we did enjoy the pool area. I disliked the Swan & Dolphin, worst stay thus far! I did split stay, not by choice and hated the crowds & conference feel of the hotel and its also not ran by Disney & you can tell, we went to gift shop there a lot for Disney vibe! Favorite is POLY and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I stayed at the Dolphin for a conference and it was fine - FOR A CONFERENCE!! I would not choose it for my family vacation. I too hung out at the Disney store and the people working there were the NICEST at the hotel. I can't say too much about the rest of the staff. But if work wants to pay me again to go to Disney World, I'll stay there ;)

PIXIE DUST IS WONDERFUL

Garden View to Tahiti looking out the room at the lagoon with Castle View.

So amazing.

Going to the bar now to get a drink!

See you all at the pool!!
:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Congrats on the upgrade!!! Did you request a room in advance or leave it up to chance?

We were in Tokelau longhouse last week and new coffee makers were delivered to the rooms while we were there. The new one didn't fit in the shelf where the old one was but that's all I really know about it. I didn't pay any attention to it.

I have been trying since May to get a garden view room with the bounceback offer (40%). Today it was available. Just got off the phone and changed from WL to the Poly. I am so excited. And the best thing. I leave on Thursday. Looks like they have opened up new rooms under this discount.

Hello from the Poly!! Sitting in the CL rigt now while a rain storm goes over. we were leaving MK just as it started. Getting WiFi access from here.

We arrived yesterday afternoon - a little different than what I've read in that no one greeted us by name - actually had aCM direct us inside to check in? So i told him we were staying CL and asked if we should still go inside. He then said they would get someone to help with luggage and to escort us over. Another CM came out to greet us and walked us inside the GCH to wait for "our ride". So after a few minutes a 3rd CM came and got us and we walked with him to where they parked the golf carts and loaded everything there? It was really fine and everyone was very friendly just a different experience than what I've read about. But we made it to our room - #1518 - the farthest one from lounge end on the lagoon side. We had requested ground floor so that was good. There is alot of vegetation in front of our patio so it is secluded which is nice, but not easy access to the beach - but overall its a nice location and we are enjoying it.!!:goodvibes

Aloha, glad you were able to get your room request. Hope you have a wonderful vacation. :goodvibes Since you mention alot of vegetation, just a word of caution... don't leave your slider open if you're not sitting there because you never know what might slither into your room :scared1:

Assorted thoughts as our dates near...

looking forward to our first stay at Poly in a couple of weeks for a few days, weren't planning on making a trip but couldn't pass up the 35% off mailer pin, enough to lure Scrooge McDuck even...*squawks like Donald, shakes fist at Disney marketeers, laughs*

Hope we can squeeze in an hour to rent a Sea Raycer...

Seems from room availability (and lack thereof) that WDW overall is going to be extra crowded this year around Columbus day, more than in recent years...

Think we will skip EPCOT Food&Waddle this time, maybe do a water park instead...

I am likely the 823994th person to say-- sure wish they still had resort-unique refillable mugs available along with the generic, willing to bet folks would pay $3-6 more for a well-designed Polynesian one. A tiki Polynesian one, a tree Wilderness Lodge, others for diff resorts-- Disney marketeers are missing the boat on this aspect. I can see how having a generic helps folks with split stays, and artwork that changes year to year will help curb the cheaters if the RFID stuff doesn't work out, but still-- we love our old tan and green Wilderness Lodge mugs, and would happily pay $20each for refillable well-designed Polynesian ones, shaped or printed like a fierce tiki, maybe with Lilo and Stitch climbing on it, etc. ...

The tiki gods will decide what longhouse we stay in, hope they smile on us...

We will have our friends wish us luck by saying "May the monorails never break down during your stay, and may the Volcano need no virgins"...

Okay, now 20 minutes closer to the trip, lol....

Same here! We couldn't pass up the 35% either. We were able to stay at the Poly last year with the 40% discount. We decided to go last minute, booked POFQ to get free dining and then the pin code arrived. So we upgraded :) We are also going the week of Columbus day. I think it may be crowded too but a crowded Disney is better than no Disney!

Question! So if we leave friday and booked a room last minute we obviously don't have our ME tags so we give the ME people our bag claim tickets and our reservation number correct?:confused3

We have three more days! Fly down on Friday!! We requested Rarotonga so hopefully we will get that! No preference on ground floor or second floor.

Lucky! Have fun and we'll want updates:wizard:

A gray and rainy cold morning here too. At least September is going by fairly quickly for me. The time is slowly drawing near, all you late Oct. poly peeps! Have you all gotten your luggage tags yet? Our customized maps arrived Friday but we're still waiting on those tags!

We'll arrive on Oct. 16th. We received our luggage tags about a week ago.
Only 4 weeks to go - can't wait. Wonder if I can lose 20 lbs in a month? :rotfl:
