ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

I think the issue is this ... WDW booked rooms that they could not complete in time for their reserved guests. To compensate they have upgraded them to a deluxe resort. Nobody begrudges you that. WDW screwed up/couldn't deliver on what they promised. They are making good. However, you could maybe show some understanding for people that have paid to be at the Poly being a bit upset. We now have people who booked GV POR being upgraded to Poly TPV and one from POR riverview to Poly CL TPV (that is an upgrade of $580/night on rack rate!!) You might understand how that would really hit a nerve for people. It's also one thing to be given an upgrade, but another when given an upgrade (to a deluxe) and then trying to max out and expect to be upgraded further to CL (I know Venomhatch was offered the CL, and others have paid for the upgrade, but there seems to be an undertone of encouraging others to try to get it for free, ie. leaving notes at the desk to ask for the same for others).

As BreezysMom said, of course you are all welcome here. This is one of the friendlier DIS threads (most of the time!) The issue isn't that you've been moved to the Poly by WDW because of the POR rooms not being ready. The issue isn't people not wanting guests from another resort being there. But you can't expect that people aren't going to be upset hearing about all of these big upgrades, some of which seem to be way overcompensating for the "inconvenience". Maybe just show some sensitivity for those who paid a lot of money to book the Poly and will not be receiving several hundred $/night upgrades.

Just want to make a statement, as a Disney Travel Planner myself, I don't see how they could try and give you "what you paid for" when there are no TPV's at POR. If you had paid for a pool view then they could have given you a lagoon view without the club level. Just sayin...

I just think the Poly is a big enough upgrade to make up for the POR reno's. If they want to offer the upgrades they need to offer it to those already staying at the Poly to make room for the POR transfers. Like they do on the cruise line... if you pay for a lower room you have the opportunity to get upgraded, but to do so they upgrade those who paid for the better room to an even better room. That makes sense to me. Give those who paid for a Poly GV room or a TPV room an upgrade to CL and make room in the basic GV rooms for the transplants.

Thanks just my thoughts.

Everything they said. :thumbsup2

This is supposed to be a welcoming thread as was just mentioned. I wish everyone good night.

Ok tomorrow is another day. I apologized.

I admit to being a tad bit worried that the Poly will now be quite packed during our trip because of these upgrades. I really hope not. We're there March 3-10, and it doesn't seem like it should be an overly busy time. I just hope the pool isn't too crowded, etc.

Yeah I am from POR and I know we only have like four maybe five families at the most of maybe three or four people per family. Most went to GF, WL, and AKL, some even went to BC. So it won't be like you feared. Shoot I'll be gone the day you get there.

Hi all!! What a great thread! We'll be going to our first Poly stay in September and can't wait!! Originally booked at the Art of Animation, but decided we'd like to stay at a monorail resort instead. My 9 year old actually convinced us to go with Poly because she saw it on the Disney channel and loved it. :)

Hey! When are your dates at the Poly??? We will be there Sept 12 - 21 for our 10th anniversary trip!! (2nd time at the Poly, we love it:love:)

As maiapapaya said I was offered it. I took it, I am not going to turn down that. You wouldn't if the role was reversed. So please move on, this is supposed to be a welcoming thread as was just mentioned. So let's get back on subject. I wish everyone good night.

Ok tomorrow is another day. I apologized once so all I have to say.

I was seconding what the other posters said. I was not singling anyone out or saying anything against anyone so your post is highly unnecessary.

I heard about all the upset from this thread about POR upgrades and couldn't believe people would begrudge a little Disney Pixie Dust. :sad2: Really?

I was a Poly paying guest, and would never have begrudged people getting upgraded.

I don't think it's very common at Poly to get upgraded. We didn't. But we did get all our requests, Tokelau, beach end, upper floor :thumbsup2 And had a wonderful stay.

As for it being a warm welcoming thread.... :confused3 When I was all excited about our first Poly Stay a couple of years ago, I never got a welcome of any sort and rarely got any questions answered. Only if I bumped my post. So I gave up posting here. Sorry, but i never felt the warm welcoming thing.

I am going to be happy happy happy :goodvibes for anyone who gets blessed with the upgrade. So...... maybe I will get a pixie dust upgrade when I get to the Poly to a MK view.....:littleangel:
Some call it karma, I call it the way of life. :wizard:

Thank you SueM, you are and always will be a great friend here. You have been a great example here.

Ok seriously, enough already. I come here lurking for Poly info & all I get are pages of you defending any comment you don't like, and then thanking everyone over & over that has anything in to say in your favor.

Some people sure like to hear themselves talk, don't they?

Can we get back to Poly questions, facts & info please?

I wanted that two pages ago.

Anyhow. Fellow members that have been to the luau show, is it good? How long is the show? Do they have more than one show per night?

Is there a smiley that's spitting out their coffee on their screen?!?! :rotfl2:

But Judy, you hit the nail on the head. :thumbsup2

Some people don't know when to stop talking!

Oh and by the way I've never done the luau, would love some comments on that as well. I've known a few people that said it was ok but wouldn't do it again, so looking for some better reviews!

I've never done it,but anyone I know who has says skip it. I like to stick to 'Ohana and Kona.

Moving on...

Anyhow. Fellow members that have been to the luau show, is it good? How long is the show? Do they have more than one show per night?

We loved the Luau! The food was pretty good but there is a lot of it! Plus beer and wine is included.

The dancing is cool and the there is plenty of eye candy for ladies and gentleman alike :thumbsup2 :lmao:

The show is in 3 parts. The first is a bit of a quirky story line with some song and dance. Then there is the dancing from the different islands and then the third is Fireboy AKA Mr. Yummy who does an amazing routine. At one point they also bring all the kids on stage and then they will bring adults on stage later in the show to dance with the ladies :dance3:

It is fun for the whole family. I always say people should try it just once. I think there is a picture a few pages back with the platter of food. I will try and post some of my pics.

There is two shows a night Tues through Saturday 5:15 and 8pm I think. The show is dark on Sunday and Monday.

There are two shows a night Tu through Sat at 5:15 and 8pm.

I hope that helps :goodvibes

I have not gone to the Aloha show recently but did many years ago and truely enjoyed it. The food offerings are better now, when I went back in the 90's the food was more traditionally Polynesian my family only liked a small bit of it, but I think the drinks were more plentiful back then. Now we were fortunate to be seating right up front near the stage, I do not think the show would be quite as good if you had seating way in the back. The fire dancers were amazing when I went but I have to say I did keep thinking " I hope he doesn't drop that flameing stick" since we were right on top of the stage practically

Would I go to it again yes, in fact I did almost book it but unless I were to pay OOP for it you can not get the best seats on the DDP

I agree it is something everyone should try at least once, especially if staying at the Poly to feel fully immerced into the feel of the resort.

I would go for the second show like I did the last time but that is just me

Truly hoping to move on, but am feeling the need to set the record straight here ...

To recap for those who have felt the need to jump in & pass judgement on others ... several days ago the posters who had been transferred from POR started showing up. They were welcomed. They had questions, which were gladly answered. They were offered advice on making longhouse requests. Everything was fine. There was not one poster who begrudged them anything. Not one person who said anything negative about their little bit of pixie dust.

However, yesterday there were several posts about how the pixie dust (the upgrade from POR to Poly) was now turning into extra pixie dust with ppl being given extra, free upgrades, when unfortunately there were people who were already booked at the Poly, who had paid Poly rates, who couldn't even pay for an upgrade because of the extra, free upgrades that the transfers from POR were being given. We're talking free upgrades from POR GV to Poly TPV, POR riverview to Poly TPV CL (which, BTW is an upgrade from a room that costs $240/night rack rate to $820/night) ~ to the posters to whom these references apply I am not singling you out, or criticizing you I am just mentioning this to illustrate my point (the issue really is with how WDW has handled this). Even then only one comment was made which said something to the effect "if you were a paying Poly guest you may not feel the same" (referencing being excited about these upgrades) Some snark ensued. Some thread vets jumped in to try and calm things down & say this is why some people might be upset, just try to understand how others might feel when making comments.

I would hardly say that people were being nasty about "a little pixie dust" and begruding simple upgrades to the Poly. I wouldn't even define what was going on as a "big upset", like there was a big flame-fest going on. However making judging comments about the situation when I'm not sure you even read back far enough to know what had really been going on since the former POR guests started posting here on only throws fuel on the fire.

I agree with you 100% Disney in their infinite wisdom or lack there of that "the issue really is with how WDW has handled this" could have made everyone happy by simply upgradeing the POR RR guests to the Poly or other Deluxe resorts placeing them into the lowest catagories at the Deluxe resorts (gv, std, etc) available, making more available if needed by upgrading the currently paid guests with reservations at said resorts and when the guests checked in tell them of their upgrades ............everyone would have been Happy
