ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: October 2013

I was there 5/30 -6/4. GCH is open BUT waterfall is blocked off. The upper floor is now starting to close off. Traders store just closed.

The pool supposed to close 7/26 but things do change.

Arcade is gone forever.

See boards for info. Monorail is now having different hours this summer for updates.


I didn't see movies (anybody else?) but I did see fire with marshmallows.

CC's was moved and fine for us. Outside seating was still available.

Kona still open.

Read the last few pages for updates from people like me that have had a recent stay. Also go to tikimanpages.com or tikiman facebook page for best info. People are letting him know what they see when they are there.

My dd19 and I were fine with the construction. It was confined to east side so not a big deal. However no pool in August for many would be a deal breaker. Eh, I would be fine with small pool myself if I got a good rate.

I wonder if Kona will be open in August? We have ADRs!

I have gone on mom and me trips over the years with my mom (and dad sometimes) but my 2 sisters do not.

My mom and I are going to try gf soon. Hopefully the airfare discounts will align with a super Orbitz deal

For these looking for a completion date, it's just hard to predict.

For GF when they were building the villas, and redoing GGG and the pool and poolside bar it seemed like the dates kept changing. They just can't predict that far in advance.

Also I remember they had problems with the added jets to the pool so they kept closing it down.

So some things will be done by March or April but you just never know what won't be finished yet.

I remember watching gf's progress and the completion dates kept changing. Look at it now? No one knows for sure until it actually happens. The pool may close 7/26 but ya never know.

Good luck planning. Keep an eye on Tikiman's sites. He usually has the news first

Thank you both! I guess we will wait until we go to WL in Nov and make a decision. I would also like to thank both of you for answering my question! Unfortunately the people over on the WL thread ignore me. Pretty terrible for a community! I found a nice facebook group for other questions.

There is a person that has a dedicated site for the Poly. It is really good. My family is flying out on the 29th. The construction freaked me out but between this thread and the information on that person's site I know we will have a great time.

My dd and I have been reading Steve's site for years. However it seems like this year he really has stepped up his efforts and others have been helping so really this is a great place for info.

Reminder, get your volcano pictures now! It is getting replaced with a rock feature to create more space on the pool deck.

Right now we are scheduled for WL Dec. 19-24. This will be our first stay at a deluxe. I have heard wonderful things about WL, but I keep thinking that it would be so nice being on the monorail. Will construction be done by December? Also, is it decorated for Christmas?? I'm just wondering if I should change our reservation while we can. Thanks everyone

Thanks for the kind words. I couldn't do it without the help of my sources and guests sending in reports and photos. Being in California its not easy to shoot over there and get photos of what is going on. I'm just lucky I have good sources that can tell me when things will happen so I can have someone go get photos.

We've stayed at both and even though the Poly is our favorite, we also love the WL (especially during the holidays). Construction will still be going on in December, with it continuing into (and possibly through) a lot of 2015. The construction aside, I would stick with the WL for a Christmas trip. All of the resorts are nicely decorated for the holidays, but the WL is just amazing with a cozy, homey feeling as the huge fireplace surrounded by rocking chairs is very inviting. The Poly is a great resort and it is our favorite, but the WL is hard to beat (IMO) during Christmas time. Good luck with your decision.
