ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Hello,
I would love to get everyone's opinion on which long house to request. We would like to be near the pool and have a full size balcony. Thanks so much!:cool1::thumbsup2

The LSSSG meetings would devolve no matter what the topic promptly after the second Lapu-Lapu. Remember that cloak of invisibility;)

Can you do both Kona and 'Ohana? I think everyone should try 'Ohana at least once, and if you can, time it with Wishes and try and get a window seat. But, I'm personally not a big fan of the food. I do love Kona for lunch, they have a great menu and those desserts...

Ya know, I believe LSSSG needs a witty slogan. I'll be such a light-weight by the time our next trip rolls around, the first Lapu Lapu will have complimentary Cloak of Invisibility included, I think. :lmao:

Hmmm. On second thought re: Kona Cafe after looking at their menu again, we have booked in for dinner on the night before we leave (hopefully have booked by the IPO) -- I'll leave it be, methinks. The desserts and drinks part of the menu reminded me. *drool* :thumbsup2 Last year, we had done 'Ohana for breakfast; the food was a bit strange (sugar on the potatoes?!). We loved the character interaction though. And went to Kona Cafe for dinner, on a night when I was feeling a bit "off" so I'd love to do Kona again and enjoy it 100% this time! The hubster really enjoyed his meal that night though -- and the dessert. While I looked on in jealousy.

We spent two of the evenings camped outside the Tambu Lounge, enjoying drinks and snacks from the bar menu with the kiddo. That was fabulous. I'd highly recommend that to anyone. Very relaxing in those chairs, with a frosty drink in hand. (Note for legality sake: Kiddo didn't imbibe adult drinks; even as tempted as mommy was to let her have a sip.)

I just want to take a moment to thank you all.
I'm about 3 1/2 weeks away from my trip and I lurk on this thread daily, well perhaps hourly....
I get excited every time someone posts. Really it doesn't even matter what you say (although you are all full of information AND very entertaining) I'm just excited that there is someone saying something about the Polynesian.
So for those of you going before me - Have a magical time! And those of you after - I will try to give your ticker a push and make it go faster.

Tammy

I MUST be in the minority b/c I dont like the lapu lapu, way toooo strong for me.. I love the pina colava, I love that they use chambord in most of the pina colada/Colava un WDW..

Now my DH has to get it each time..

I remember when I ordered the lapu lapu I didnt really didnt know what was in it I took it for granted that it was like a pina colada and WOW it was a shock! LOL DH said I saw the description and didnt say a word..

I am feeling so deprived...I have NEVER had a Lapu Lapu. I *THINK* about it each trip but I am so in love with the Pina Colava that I can't seem to venture to the pineapple sensation. I slurp up my pina colava so fast I get the cold zing in my throat that reminds me--Hello lady??--drinking too fast--slow down, take your time--ack! I never listen and keep slurping despite the cold zing...until sadly I am left with the "eating of the cherry". At that point, I point to my cup and DH gets me another :cool1:

I think maybe I need to adopt your game-plan! I go for the non-frozen drinks because they "go down easier" and I don't suffer from "brain freeze" or "frozen throat" -- but that's a bad strategy because I blow through said non-frozen libations. "Frozen throat" always slows me way down. You've got to get a Lapu Lapu to experience the straw scrape phenomenon.

You know, I was in your exact position last year ... wondering what longhouse to request. My suggestion is take a look-see at Tikiman's website (just Google Tikiman Polynesian); he's got excellent descriptions including the pros and cons of each longhouse. That way you can decide on your own based on what your requirements are. After perusing his site, we decided on Tokelau and really couldn't have asked for a better spot. Right next to the quiet pool and a short walk away to the TTC was exactly what we wanted -- we requested top floor for the full balcony. It was fab.

:rotfl: I think some Lapu-Straw-Scraping Support Group needs to be formed. Though, I'd imagine meetings would devolve into discussion of various straw-wielding techniques and the best methods for extracting the pineapply-rum goodness.

(Thanks for the 'Ohana info. Tempted to change from Kona to Ohana at dinner now.)

Everyone pack some sporks! I think they will work best to get every bit of rum soak pineapple meat.

Please note that the Lapu-Lapu is served at lunch!

I agree...do Kona and Ohana if possible. They are both very good :thumbsup2 Although if I had a Lapu Lapu at lunch it would be the end of my day :faint:

That should go on your must try for next trip list :thumbsup2

What category do you have booked? This will help narrow down a suggestion. If it is GV, I am partial to third floor Figi.

She would sleep well  But I agree...DH requested to try my Lapu Lapu and I gave him the death stare. I am not fond of sharing my $13 drink.

We also like to hang out in the Tambu lounge and people watch while enjoying cocktails. It was so much nicer when Kaelo was there singing every night. I hear he is there every once in a while though.

:welcome: No more lurking allowed! Come join the fun!! :dance3:

I hope you have a magical vacation :wizard:

Just had to post and say.....192 days until our return to Polynesian Club Level :lovestruc

And what's even more exciting is that the trip is to attend my best friend's Disney Fairytale Wedding...AND I'm the Maid of Honour :cloud9:

The itinerary planning office got in touch with me a few days ago, and I have now filled out our IPO form, and provided them with CC info for any dining reservation guarentees (V&A and California Grill :goodvibes)

Can't wait! :woohoo:

I want to be helpful and remind you that our favorite $13 Lapu Lapu is only $9 if you order it without the pineapple... BUT I'm also afraid that comment alone might get me impaled by a cocktail umbrella!! :lmao:

*gasp* Sacrilege, pure sacrilege! :rotfl2:

Breezy: Sporks, indeed... and it fits in perfectly with the LSSSG acronym too. I'm hoping to find one tucked away in the kitchen junk drawer; I'll be "travelling with spork" to Poly come September. :thumbsup2 LOL at "death stare"; the hubby ordered something laden with whisky when I had my first Lapu Lapu; he didn't want anything "too girly" -- more for me, I say!

:rotfl: I imagine that would be my mom's reaction if I were to get her to take a sip.

I have to go back and read a few posts...but for now I have to do my 7 months dance......

How excited you must be and what great ADRs you have:thumbsup2.

Since you're returning to the Poly/CL, I'd love to know what your likes and dislikes are. We've stayed at the Poly before, but never CL. We're booked at the BC/Deluxe CL room, but I haven't stayed there at all (only YC), so it makes it harder to compare and contrast BC/CL with Poly/CL since I don't have a "feel" for them.

Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated:goodvibes

In case this has not already been mentioned...

From the AllEars Newsletter:

... from Joseph Bollaert: Just wanted to let you know that the Quiet Pool at the Polynesian will be closed until April 8 (if everything goes as planned) because of refurbishing. They will be adding a zero-entry section.

Thanks for everyone's response. I am currently booked at
A garden view....:) how are they with requests?

It's luck-of-the-draw if they'll honor your request, as there a lots of determining factors as to whether what you request is available the time you check in. If you think you like the sound of a particular longhouse that has Garden View rooms, put in a request and keep your fingers crossed! That said, we were staying GV last year as well; all we requested was Tokelau, top floor and were lucky enough to get it. Honestly though, I'm sure we would've been happy with any of the top floor garden views.

Edit regarding our favorite subject, drinks: After this new information has come to light about $9 Lapu-Lapu refills, I'm afraid we will be running out of invisibility cloaks to give out. Should we start a petition to have Lapu-Lapus served with sporks?

OK so here's the scoop... Someone needs to pick up a case (here) and pass them off to the CM's at the pool bar... anyone who knows the secret code or who sports a lime green Mickey with LSSSG on it can have a free spork with their lapu lapu. :thumbsup2

Since we're all saving our $$$ for the next Poly trip-

If you don't want to spend the $12.23 on that case... you could always swing by HERE a couple times a week until you have collected enough for us all. :rotfl:

On a side note: I propose that every Monday, one of us post a pic of a spork just to make us feel better about the week. :thumbsup2
