ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

For anyone interested I did a review of our club level stay on my blog (link below) I meant to do a full trip report but never got to that, but wanted to at least get to the Poly review.

Thank you for posting the link to your review; I really enjoyed reading it. It was concise, yet detailed enough to give the reader a very good idea of what staying CL at the Poly in a GV room is like.

I was pleased to read that they do indeed still serve sushi in the lounge. Do you recall how many times per week sushi was available and do you recall what brands of beer were served so that I can pass this on to Mr. WDWKOOK;). Also, was seating ever hard to come by and was the lounge kept neat and tidy and items replenished as needed?

TIA!

When we were at Poly CL in Sept they served sushi once a week.

The CL was always clean but sometimes it could be hard to get a seat downstairs but remember there is upstairs seating as well.

DH only drinks Budweiser so I remember them having that and he tried the Kona Brewing Company beer which he really liked and even gets here at home at our local world Market.

We found all the food replenished constantly with the chef coming out speaking with us and encourging ppl to get more..

My MIL really enjoys her beer... Do you think she'd be able to get one (or two) during the mid-afternoon?? 12-2-ish..?? Or is that offered just at evening times? TIA -Stace

You know, on second thought I think I'll have a nightly Lapu Lapu! :lmao:

Hahaha! :thumbsup2

Uh, that would be me. I really go to town scraping it out of the second LapuLapu I've had for the night because the second one makes me 'invisible'. :rotfl2:

I'm so glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that bit as I would've undoubtedly spit it out all over the computer screen. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Aloha, joining in! We just put down our deposit to stay at the Poly, it's our first WDW family vaca!

What are the chances of getting one of the elusive PIN codes between now and December?

Welcome to the Poly threadpixiedust: You and your family will LOVE the Poly. The atmosphere, the location, the transportation options......heaven ....

NOW....those doggone PINS....it's a solid,............... maybe.hahaha PINS seem to go out alot to the same folks over and over again and others never see them at all. It would be more beneficial to just hope for a public discount code. Have you tried at least a AAA discount? I would suggest joining one of the monthly watcher threads for your month on the discount board up above the regular resort threads. There are people WAY fanatic about watching for discounts as well as travel agents who post teasers when a new discount code is about to be released. HTH:goodvibes

I just wanted to add - sometimes you just need to call and ask as well! I've never received a pin via email or snail mail, but apparently Disney has them for me somewhere. :confused3 For both of our most recent trips I booked rack rate (waiting for AP rates) and every so often would call and check to see if I had a pin and low and behold eventually I would. For my Aug trip the pin wasn't as good as the eventual AP rate so I ended up switching off of the pin rate, but for Jan my pin rate was better than GP and AP. Anyhow just wanted to add to the pp's comments and say that just because you don't SEE one don't assume you don't have one. ;) Call and ask! :thumbsup2

Yes she can ask for a beer any time. If she wants to take it out to the pool she can let them know so they get her one that isnt in a glass bottle..

They gave DH a budwesier in one of those alunimum bottles for the pool..

I got a PIN emailed to me back in 2005 and nothing since then. Since then I use the public codes but this year the personal ones are better. So I called and there was one under DH name and we added that and saved money..

I tell you I dont know what I will do if they stop PINS..lol

I was secretly wondering how we were gonna smuggle one to the pool..... :rolleyes1 thanks!

One more question for anyone that has the answer...

I know I can use the TIW card at the lounge by 'Ohana, at 'Ohana, and at Kona- I was wondering though if I could also use it at the Kona sushi bar??? I guess than also curious if it can be used what the Kona sushi bar becomes the Kona coffee bar :goodvibes ??

I'm not sure about the sushi bar (not my shtick) but I do know we couldn't use it towards coffee (or anything at the CS coffee bar) in the mornings. We LOVE our TiW card, it has saved us a bundle since we enjoy character meals, but it's pretty much useless at all CS locations. :rolleyes1 It's never stopped me from asking though... do you offer TiW/AP/AAA discounts... I feel like a broken record at times! :rotfl:

On a completely different however semi related topic  this was recently announced -
10% merchandise discounts with counter service dining
Mar 21, 2011
Guests dining at some counter service restaurants should lookout for 10% merchandise discount on their receipts for use at the Magic Kingdom's Emporium on Main Street USA. The coupons are set to be distributed from March 24 to May 2. Other locations at other parks may also offer similar deals. Be sure to read the conditions, as typically these offers are time based, typically before noon.

I wanted to know is what is Ohana's it's a resturant or a lounge in the Polynesian?

'Ohana is a restaurant in the GCH at the Poly that has a character breakfast and an all-you-can eat non-character dinner.

Here are links to more information and the menu:

'Ohana is a FABULOUS restaurant; however there is a lounge situated right at its entrance- I think it is called the Tambu lounge (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Are there off times for grabbing a snack at the restaurants at the Poly? We'll be doing ADRs but we're big snackers, and when we're hanging out at our hotel we generally like to have a drink and an app. I don't want to feel like I need to make a res, so I'm curious about how busy the late afternoons or early evenings are. :)

I wanted to say I loved your report! Beautiful photos, made me feel like I was there. :)
