ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are having the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We always love Disney, but we are now definately hooked on Poly. :worship: We said we were going to relax & enjoy this vacation & boy are we :lovestruc

The Poly can definitely be addicting. We just can't bring ourselves to stay anywhere else. We will be there in October, and again in December. We thought about staying somewhere else in Dec., but ended up booking the Poly.

With only 15 more days until we check in to the Poly for our very first stay there, :yay: I have been debating on whether or not to call and make a room request. Since I couldn't decide between Tokelau, Tahiti, or Figi, I called and just requested a 3rd floor for the balcony. I am excited to see what longhouse we end up in on check in.
Now if only I can keep myself from packing... I know if I do, I'll end up unpacking several times to make sure I get all of the outfits we need.
Here's hoping the next 2 weeks fly by... :wizard:

We're going to stay at the Poly for the first time in December. I'm considering asking for Raratonga, only because it's the shortest walk from the GCH...can't wait. Thanks for the great thread...

I've been reading through this thread and am getting so excited with every page that I read because in 19 days, my sister and I will be at the Poly (our wonderful husbands are staying home to look after our dogs) for 13 days.

My DH and I stayed at the Poly for our 25th anniversary, castle view and I have been impatiently waiting ever since then until I could return. It's taken almost 7 years but I'm finally coming 'home' and I can't wait for my sister to come to love this resort as much as I do.

Last January we had booked two garden view rooms, but when the discounts came out during the summer, we decided to try to upgrade to club level. It seemed that whenever I checked online and saw that a club level room was available for our days, when I would call, it would always be for only one room.

Anyway, we continued to check multiple times each day and finally about 2 weeks ago, I was shocked when the CM I was talking to told me there were two club rooms open. I was almost hyperventilating :hyper: as I texted my sister with the good news, while at the same time I was giving the CM our credit card info to pay off the new price.

So, on October 12th, we will begin our most wonderful vacation ever!!! Thank you so much for such an informative thread. Just reading your exciting posts and looking at all your pictures, I sure hope the next 19 days go by quickly!!!

Hey everyone... I am joining this thread because DF and I want to stay there for our honeymoon in February....can you give us any tips?!? We want a lagoon view, but I want a straight on shot of the MK..what should I ask for when I book? TIA

Hello Poly fans! Subscribing to this thread as we get ready for our third stay at one of our favorite places in the universe (much less the World!)

There are more tips than you can imagine, but to answer your question. You want a Theme Park View. With that said, you now need to decide if you want a Theme Park View with Club Level service. The price difference is substantial, but it is your honeymoon.

Welcome home jenjersnap! I hope you enjoy your planning and don't be a stranger. :cheer2:

If you weren't joking...how did you get them small enough???

If you were joking - uh, nevermind.

PS. Got our packet in the mail Monday! Counting down to Oct 20th!

I was serious, and am glad to see I'm not the only pocket-sized planner! :thumbsup2 I just use a small size font and will include info on front and back. Some trips I get in an ultra-planning mode and include general touring plans on 4-5 cards. This trip I will probably go more basic and have 1-2 cards with a daily schedule, park selections, parade/fireworks times, ADR times/conf #s, phone numbers of kids' schools to call them in absent :rolleyes1, plus some cute Disney clipart pics. I guess my basic doesn't sound that basic. :rotfl: It's all part of the anticipation fun for me! :woohoo: I've had some friends make fun of me, but good ol' DH swears by my planning. :lovestruc

PS We'll be there from the 16th-24th and are counting down right with ya! :cool1:

Thanks for your help. I will be hanging around here for a while....

My kids don't like lingering at meals.

Is there a way to get Kona Cafe to go and still count as our table credit?

I'm happy to know that there is always hope that something can come available. We have GV booked with 40% off for our stay in December. I'm checking online every day hoping for a CL room to become available with the discount. Do you think the availability is any different for CMs than is showing online?

We found if even one room was available, it showed up online but there was no way of knowing how many rooms were listed. I do think the CM's have the same info but it wouldn't hurt to call.

So many times we called only to find the online listing was just for the one room that had popped back into the system. The CM told me they could not tell how many rooms were available until they plugged in our reservation. Each time they would plug my reservation into the first room that was available to hold it for me and then when they went to see if there was a room for my sister, they would find out that no more rooms were available so they would just cancel the temporary hold they had placed with my reservation number.

It was a little frustrating because we would be getting all excited when a room turned up for me only to find there was nothing for my sister.

Keep trying...multiple times each day. When I found our club level rooms, they were not there an hour earlier when I had previously checked!!!

Thanks so much! I do love the Poly...out of the 15 or so trips we've taken to Disney World, the one that holds the most memories for me is our stay at the Poly. I can't wait to return!!!

Thanks for the info! We only need one room, so it's good to know that I can just check online. Have a great trip!

I was up at 6 AM on the day the new discounts came out and looking and there was NOTHING available, club-level, at any of the monorail resorts (or even Wilderness Lodge), for our December dates. Instead, we booked Yacht Club, and I started looking every day, often many times per day for something to come available. This past weekend, both the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian opened up at club level for our dates, so I pounced on the Poly. I just did a quick check now and neither the Grand nor the Yacht Club room I gave up are showing up anymore, though I know at least Yacht Club was there later the same day I cancelled it. So, moral of the story, stuff is changing all the time.

By the way, by your ticker, looks like we'll be passing by each other at the Poly. We leave the day it appears you arrive. Maybe you can have our room ;).

PS: For me, calling was a hassle and yielded no better results. I tried it a couple time looking for Annual Pass rates (since I plan to buy an AP once we get there anyway, but don't have one yet so no access to AP web ressies), and never had any luck. Looking online only takes a minute or so.

:scared1: it's our last afternoon at the Poly pool, friends!:sad2: Guitarob is getting drinks for us, so we can drown our sorrows...

This has been a terrific trip!
