ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

I am in need of several Lapu Lapu(e/es??) today! Anyone know where I can find the recipe?

No worries. I absolutely did. (If I couldn't laugh at myself, I'd be in big trouble.) I kinda felt like I returned to the thread like a dog with my tail between its legs, hence the explanation.

By the way, "hyper-planner" sounds way better than, "total nutball."

And, while indeed color-coded, my itinerary is pretty basic. Park times, notable set-time/date things, like parades/fireworks, I don't want to miss and ADRs (two-a-day, max, and usually just dinner) along with a smattering of other appointment events (Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and Wildlife Excursion being the only ones). And, yes, I know it's all very rough and I'm perfectly willing to throw it out the window once we get there if need be. But it does make me feel better to have a plan and potentially not use/follow it, then need it and not have one at all.

Oh good, I was afraid I had offended you. In my early days, I had a notebook (with colored dividers) with all my stuff in it. Thankfully, those days are over! Being prepared pays off big time at Disney!

Do all rooms have a balcony???

Not all, but Tokelau, Tahiti, and Rapa Nui do have balconies on floors two and three and patios on the first.

17 Days To Go!
... not that I'm counting or anything.

I realized that my Poly lovin' friends might want to follow my trip planning and maybe hear about the story of how I won the trip of a lifetime. I write a blog and try to update daily now that our vacation is so close. I talk a lot about the Polynesian. :)

One more question...which building has the best Theme Park Views..Tahiti or Tuvalu???

This will be our first time at the Polynesian and I want the best possible view!! We always fax a room request when staying at the Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge and usually have pretty good luck with rooms. I just really have no clue what to request at the Poly!!!! Any help would be appreciated!!! :thumbsup2

There are two types of TPV lovers on this board...one for each longhouse so you will get different answers. I will tell you a few things that may help in the decision.

Tuvalu, is closer to the GCH and the pool but the farthest from the TTC. There are no balconies on second floor rooms. Tuvalu first floor rooms have patios that are enclosed and right at the edge of the water. It is a smaller longhouse. The bathrooms only have one sink..

Thaiti is closer to the TTC but farther away from the pool and GHC. Also, the first floors of Thaiti has patios that lead out to grassy areas and the beach. The second floor rooms have balconies. Thaiti is a larger longhouse and the bathrooms have two sinks.

I hope that helps you decide! Happy planning :wizard:

From coppermom: Oh and, yes, I am anal retentive, thanks for asking, but this is a vacation over-planning first for me. I've always been a researcher, but never to this extent. Disney just brings it out in me, I guess ... Wanna see my color-coded daily itinerary for the trip? (And, yes, I am kidding about sharing it, but, umm, yeah, I really do have one.)

Me too! Me too! and it's 4 months, that I have it ready and we're only arriving at the Poly on April 30, 2011........ (I don't find a smilie that is "hiding") :lmao: I also have the ressies in colour coding

Aloha everyone!

We're back from an absolutely lovely stay at the Poly all last week. It was my third stay there, my husband's 2nd, and the best yet. We spent tons of time at the pool and on the beach just relaxing. It was always easy to find chairs, and we spent one late morning/early afternoon under a sun shade looking out over the lagoon - aaahhh. We especially enjoyed watching Hallowishes sitting on a bench at the end of the boat dock - spectacular! There was a perfect breeze blowing out there.

We'd booked a great room only deal through Southwest Airlines, and didn't make any location requests. We were assigned a 2nd floor room in Fiji and this was our garden view:

We loved it!

The room was clean, in fact the carpet looked new, but did show a bit of wear and tear. We did occasionally hear our neighbors through the connecting door (especially the crying baby) but overall things were reasonably quiet. We didn't mind not having a balcony, but we did hear a lot of tromping around, and probably what was kids jumping off the beds, from the room above us. There was also a metal rattling sound in the ceiling, like a loose pipe, whenever someone was walking around up there. None of this was a major problem for us, but I mention it for those trying to decide what floor to request.

Ate breakfast at Captain Cook's most mornings, finding a table was easy. When there was a line to pay most people were confused by both cashiers working from both sides, but everyone did their best to be polite and not try to jump ahead.

The few buses we rode were more hit than miss. When the first bus for Downtown Disney was already too full for all those waiting, another showed up quickly. When we'd just missed one to the Studios, we walked over to the TTC and got right on one there. We mostly had very lucky timing.

One of our favorite things to do was watch the vintage Disney cartoons on channel 96 after we climbed in bed each night!

We had such a great trip overall, and really felt the Poly was a huge part of that. You can probably see how happy and relaxed we were in this picture!

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you loved the Polynesian. :sunny: That is a great shot of the "other" side of Fiji. I've seen many marina views, but none that face the wedding pavillion. That's a pretty view! :3dglasses

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are having the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We always love Disney, but we are now definately hooked on Poly. :worship: We said we were going to relax & enjoy this vacation & boy are we :lovestruc

I print mine on both sides. I have one for tour plans and then adrs are on a different card.

I was told the following by IPO via email this morning in response to my question to them yesterday about shipments arriving at the Polynesian via UPS or Fed Ex for guests and the possibility of shipping items, if need be, back home ...

"In regards to shipping, you may have things delivered to our resort for
your stay and there is no fee. We also can have things shipped from our
resort to your home if you would like. To ship from the hotel, however,
there is a $5 Resort Handling Fee per box. We use UPS and FedEx as our
shipping partners."

Thanks for posting this as I know we will want to mail some items back home instead of trying to carry everything home on the plane. An extra $5 on top of the normal shipping fees isn't any big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Good for you! Happy to hear you also love the Polynesian. :woohoo:
