ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

As nerdy as I sound... I am so excited that tomorrow I can say I AM GOING TO DISNEY THIS WEEK! Yay! It is going to be a long few days that will hopefully go by fast. I have plenty to do with all of the packing, pre-trip cleaning ( I LOVE to come home to a clean house so I can relax and only have a load of laundry to do from the trip), and I need to get all the back to school stuff ready since the first day of school is the day after we get home, eek!
I am soooo excited to see the Poly since I have never been there before! Looking forward to soaking it all in and a big thanks to everyone here who helped to prepare me so well!

I feel your pain. The last week before vacation is torture.

Just back last night. Still working on finishing my live report and starting my dining report. Here are some photos from our "garden view" room, Samoa longhouse, room 3604:

We could see most of the volcano pool, the firepit in 'Ohana, all of the GF, the wedding pavilion, part of the lagoon, and even a piece of the monorail track, plus lots of the beautiful gardens of the Poly. And you could not beat the location! We were steps away from the GCH, both pools, Captain Cook's, 2 mintues from the marina and monorail stop, 3-4 minutes from the bus stop and laundry, and 8 minutes from the TTC (that's from the door of room to the monorail loading platform). This room was a dream come true for our family! I felt like I was in heaven.

Absolutely gorgeous view! Thanks for sharing! Samoa seems like the bldg to request for GV.

Our trip was from 7/25-7/31 and we were in the Hawaii room 3502. Our first stay at the Poly, 7th trip to WDW. This was by far the best trip ever!! The location could not have been better, being close to Magic Kingdom and the location at the Poly. We have 2 teens and a 3yo and the convenience of the monorail was indescribable. Staying club level I was nervous about the expense, but having the food and drink available so easily was a lifesaver. We sat on the balcony at night to watch Wishes while my toddler slept and the teens were back out having a great time.

We did not notice any trash on the beach at all and we used the pool almost every evening, used the hammocks, and even played volleyball!

Thanks all for this thread! We're heading out to the Poly at the end of September. I have to laugh everytime they ask if we are celebrating anything because I very jokingly promised my 3 yr old that we'd take her to Disney if she went pee-pee in the potty. The first time she did it, she ran around the house yelling "I'm going to Disney World!". Not sure that Disney has a category for that...personal achievement?

We'll be staying in the club level because we have 5 kids and Disney is very picky about how many people you crowd into a space.

Last time we went to Disney I was pg with #5...found out I'm pg last Sunday. Some day we are going to Disney and I'm going to be able to ride a roller coaster! Maybe this is my excuse for why my dh has to take me back in a few years.

I'm excited to be at the Poly. We stayed at GF last time and would ride the monorail through the Poly. Looked like fun.

Off to read some more tips.

Congrats! And yes, an excellent excuse for a return trip.

It wasn't big blowing trash, it was little pieces of plastic and LOTS of cigarette butts shoved half way into the sand. LOTS of plastic straws etc... that kind of thing... It was right up by the pool and all the chairs, maybe down by the beach it was a bit better.

I noticed the cigarette butts as well. We've been to the Poly many times and I did mention to my husband that I noticed the upkeep was a bit lacking. We were at the Beach Club the week before and the difference was very apparent (condition of furniture, grounds upkeep). Don't get me wrong, we absolutely love the Poly (we forgot about the negatives once we sat on the beach and watched the fireworks!!) but it has changed slightly in the past few years.

Congratulations on your trip and the new baby!

When my husband realized last month that based on when we are going to start trying for #1 that I might be pregnant on our next trip he was really upset and thought I wouldn't be able to do anything... I tried to tell him he was overreacting but if it bothered him that much we either wouldn't go to Disney or we'd wait to try. Now he has apparently changed his mind because he is determined that I will be pregnant before that trip - men! LOL

guitarob, the thread is awesome. You have done such a excellent job! It is also great that you are going soon so you can get updated info and new pictures :worship: . Thank you so much for continuing the best thread on the DIS :thumbsup2

It is nice to see so many new poly lovers on the thread. I have not been frequenting the board lately so I know I have missed some trip reports/reviews and plan on going back and reading each page. I hope you all had great stays and I am looking forward to catching up.

Sadly, we have had a horrific summer and I am debating a trip in the fall or early December. After I got cleared and was on the mend from my medical issues my Mom got diagnosed on June 28th with lung cancer that had already spread through her body. We lost her last Sunday just 6 weeks after her diagnosis. My Mom and I were really close as was my Breezy :sad1: So, we need some Poly therapy along with Disney magic...and soon!

I am waiting to see about these alleged discounts that are supposed to come out tomorrow for fall and 2011 before I make my final decision but I am definitely booking a trip to Disney tomorrow regardless if it is for October or December or adjusting our March trip to earlier dates. I am sure planning and looking forward to a trip to the Poly will be good therapy for all of us. My Dad, even expressed a remote interest in joining us. I would love to take my Dad to Disney World and the Poly! I know he would love the holiday decor if we went in early December which would coincide with Mom's b-day so I am aiming for early December if possible.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer... I have missed this thread and all my Poly peeps. I look forward to be more active posting and planning again! :grouphug:

so sorry for your loss :( Hopefully planning a Disney trip will lift your spirits. :grouphug:

Love the new Poly thread and all the great photos. We're heading back this fall! There's lots of new info to read. Have fun all of you who are going soon:goodvibes

BreezysMom- I am so sorry for your loss and will be praying for you and your family. I'm curious to know if your parents are from the Rockford/Roscoe area. The wife of a board member from our church was diagnosed with lung cancer and we lost her a couple weeks ago. I see you're from the western suburbs of Chicago, and the story is so similar that I'm wondering if I know them. Regardless, I'm so sorry you're facing such heartache right now and I hope a Disney trip will work out for you soon and bring you some joy.

Yes! We were in 1524! We checked IN on 8/7. Too funny.

That is crazy that the very person who had my room right after me is on the disboards website and we've talked, The odds of that!! What time did yall check in? We had late check out that day about 1:30pm did that affect you at all? Did you complain about mudhole? So cool same room right after.

My husband will get two more days combined with a weekend before the year is through, I've never seen WDW at Christmas time, would it be crazy to make a whirlwind trip there maybe in November, being that I literally just got back? Has anyone gone for a 3 night trip before? And if so what should I make a point to see at Christmas time. I can't believe my husband is really entertaining the idea of a quick trip there... The disney magic is working!!!!:wizard:

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I'm sure "Poly Therapy" will be good for all! :goodvibes

I just saved over 3000.00 by rebooking my 12 night stay!!!!! I gave up free dining, but for just one that isn't much, I also gave up all the other add ons to the package that I would never use anyway. Now I just have to get through chemo and radiation and be in a good health position come Nov.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother. I went through something similar with my Mom. She passed away from ovarian cancer 3 months after being diagnosed back in 2007. We had been waiting to take DS(3) to WDW until he was older but we decided that life is too short to wait sometimes.

WDW, and the Poly specifically, has always been an important part of my family. We started visiting as kids and even took a big family vacation when we found out my father had cancer as well - he really enjoyed planning the trip for everyone. I hope that you can enjoy your trip Breezy's Mom and use the time away to celebrate your mother.

On a more upbeat note I was able to change our Oct Poly reservation this morning to the 40% room deal and saved $1200 off our original reservation.

We just booked the Polynesian for the first time for a trip this coming November and I've been reading this great information so thought I'd join up.

One thing is for sure, that pineapple drink picture is making me thirsty.
