ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Can anyone tell me about the coffee offered in the Club Level lounge? Is it standard Disney Nescafe or do they offer something better? We staying in the Sugar Loaf Club at GF a few years ago and they had nescafe but they also had a machine that made what was supposed to be a latte. It was pretty good and much better then nescafe!

Thanks everyone! 27 days to go!

it is nescrape! there is a coffee pot in the room that brews 2 small cups. we bring starbucks ground coffee, cream, and sugar with us. the small cone filters fit the machine. I am an early riser and Kona coffee bar didnt open until 7am so the starbucks is my life blood.

If you are really desperate, try to mix the espresso and then regular coffee from the nescrape machine. they will fit in the same cup that they provide.:thumbsup2 not bad but not the greatest!

Its amazing how one day an item will be a snack credit, then the next it isnt. I really dont think the people at the register have a list of snack credit items. we always stay CL and they provide continental type breakfast items but we still order granola bars, starbucks coffee, filters and snack items from garden grocer to be delivered upon arrival. No "leaving food to chance" :thumbsup2

generally if it costs less than $4 it will be a snack credit, but dont rely on that either.

It's true that with many CMs at the food service registers, you will get very inconsistent answers and will vary with where you go, who you get. But I can tell you that the people who work the registers and mangers at Captain Cook's are pretty consistent and have been there for a long time! We've stayed at the Polynesian twice last year at different times of the year, and again this January, and the same faces are there, and they are consistent. They are also pretty flexible with items as well! We've gotten to know many of them since my DDs have food allergies~
Good luck!

Last year I would just hit the espresso button on the machine a couple times and then top off with milk. Kinda made my own latte. It was OK. We usually grind our own starbucks french roast here every morning so we like good coffee. But, a bad cup of coffee in the CL Lounge beats a good cup of coffee at home in my opinion.

Hello everyone! My sister, DH, and I are checking in to the Poly on Feb 9th! I am SOOOOOO excited. First time in CL too! Anyone else be there during our stay? (We'll be there till the 13th.)

I agree with the pp's, a double shot of espresso (#5) and then regular coffee (#1) out of the machines in CL make an OK cup.. but just the plain coffee is pretty gross. We usually started w/ CL brew and then if we passed GCH would grab a good cup from Kona before heading on our way. :thumbsup2

Well...at least one of the breakfasty items on that list has gotta be a snack credit. If we're desperate, at least I have a suitcase of food for my infant and 3 year old.

The coffee in the CL lounge is gross. They have a machine that makes lattes I think but I never tried it because I have heard nothing good about it on this thread. As a matter of fact, it is known as NesCrape by a few people. :lmao:

I usually walk over and buy some Kona Coffee in the GCH. I like my morning coffee so I don't mind spending a little extra $$ for a good cup of coffee :thumbsup2

I am one of those who lovingly refer to it as Nescrape! LOL It is nasty stuff.

That's the only way it is tolerable--double shot of espresso and regular coffee. We also enjoyed the Starbucks in our room thanks to a fellow traveler who left it for us. :rolleyes1

I just booked Poly for our September trip and I'm so excited! Since I'll be traveling alone with an infant and DS who will be 7 at the time, I figured this was the perfect excuse to book Poly since being on the monorail will be so convenient. I can't wait for September!

What are your dates? We'll be there in September, too.

We thought the coffee in the CL was decent. We normally got the latte or cappucino tho. It was a morning routine, I got up went down to lounge got to cups of coffee to wake DH and then we got dressed and went to CL for breakfast and then out to the parks or pool

We are going Sept 4-10th I normally go a bit later in Sept but we are taking our two teens and figured they would miss less school doing over a holiday week

Aloha!
We have decided to stay at the Poly for our next trip and I cannot wait! I have wanted to stay here since I was a little girl, and my husband since he first saw it back in 2007. Cannot wait to soak up the great info on this thread!

Aloha Alice! Last yr was our first stay at the Poly and I had wanted to stay since I was a little girl as well and it was fabulous, just amazing, everything I had wanted and more! I actually cried when it was time to leave. :sad2:

The ambiance as a whole makes such a difference, the music is so relaxing the service is good and the monorail makes such a difference! We hated using the bus for AK and DS! We got spoiled!

Ahhh the ups and downs this morning..... I was on the phone with my mom and she mentioned that she got "some discount" info from Disney. Turns out she had a 40% pin code!!! YIPPIE! She is going on the trip with us - so I thought we would be able to apply her discount. And now for the down.... turns out - the offer is sold out for the Polynesian. We thought about it - but really don't think that we want to move resorts. Think we will stick with our current 25% off

We just returned from our week at the Poly and it was so amazing! Loved the huge rooms, the heated pools, the GCH and the monorail! It was so relaxing to walk across the resort in the morning and hear the music piped in to the light posts. So many little added touches that I never knew I missed at other resorts...even down to the automatic doors opening to every bldg- so nice when you have a stroller and kids in tow. We also loved being on the beach at night watching the fireworks over the castle...wow! We are now spoiled and won't ever be able to go back to moderates!

Awesome Audra! So glad you had a lovely time! And you are right! The Polynesian has a touch of sweetness everywhere you look.

Thank you! Yeah, we toured it briefly the last time we went b/c I wanted DH to see it. He loved it. He stated the other day when I brought up planning, "Can we stay at the Hawaiian one?" It made an impression!

So looking forward to this. It's been a tough year, new career, a move, living in different time zones. We need some time together without work or school cropping up.

Anyone know if there are connecting rooms in Hawaii building?:goodvibes

Our room in Aug was connecting (3530), our room this month (1520) was not.

I torture myself by keeping an eye on this thread :lmao: I'm staying at WL in May. I have this overwhelming desire to go back to the Poly (for the 4th time) but each time we've stayed, I see WL and tell my DH that's where I want to go next! So I'm finally going and am happy to be staying in a 1 bdr villa but I will miss the Poly :sad1: I'll report back after my trip and let you know if I survived!
