(Almost) Solo in May - Update 11/17 - Not sure if I'd call that Pixie Dust!

So what's the deal with the caramel shop? Why is it not authentic? Bummer. :sad2:

Your WS photos are both really pretty and pretty funny! You crazy kids! :lmao:

Brook, I think that fan was a great find! I think we may need them in June! Ok, I need to hear the story on the candy shop in Germany. Even if it isn't legit, I love the caramel corn!

MeMom, they used to sell inexpensive terra cotta Tomb Warriors in the Chinese shop. We took them back to Baylor's Social Studies and Lang. Arts teachers on two different occasions since he studied about that in 6th grade. They thought they were such neat gifts!
I also picked up a book about the Tomb Warriors from our book fair. It was a leveled reader. I wonder if we have the same thing?

" You are too kind! I think most anyone would have done what I did. I am a firm believer in the golden rule though - you should treat others how you want to be treated. If I was having a seizure, I would want someone to help me...know what I mean? It was such a scary moment though...I hope it was a once in a lifetime experience! "

Brook, I like to think that too... but I've been jaded by people just standing around saying "it's someone else's problem". How sad.

awe, the world showcase. Such a happy place!

And you went to my favorite store of all: The Japan store

I try to always find a new angle of the things I have taken a zillion pictures of in the past already. Except the Castle. Must have a straight on shot of that. :goodvibes (and then some unique ones too!)

I have forgotten to buy a souvenir many times. Good thing you are going back soon! I might have to pick up a Voices of Liberty CD sometime too...they are just awesome. Are you guys going to do the Candlelight Processional this year?

Not a dinner, but I hope to see it from afar or from getting lucky enough to find a seat. Jill likes it, too, but I don't know how well the girls would sit through something like that.

Yes, it was the leveled reader. Now to find what I have done with it. :rolleyes1

I will have to look into the price of the souvenir warriors. I never have enough time to check out everything in World Showcase.

I love your fan! I've never noticed them before, so clearly, I need to spend more time shopping at WS. :rotfl:

Your trip sounds like a lot of fun so far, but I'm sure it was hard to be there without Henry.

There is soooo much to see in the World Showcase, I always see something new!

Actually, since the trip was so short I didn't really miss the boys-I think if we hadn't been there in Feb/March for such a long trip that it would be a different story though, or if the trip was longer. On the last day I wasn't sad to leave-I was just fine with going home, that was a new experience!

I know, it's a shame it's not authentic! But....it's still so good, I won't be too upset. :rolleyes1

Magdalene (who lives in Germany) said it wasn't authentic - not even close. Sad, isn't it? :sad2: But still delicious! There ARE plenty of delicious German treats they could have put in there instead, but I'm certain Werther's was looking to foot the bill...

That is SO cool about them selling Tomb Warriors! That is a very neat and unique gift.

VERY sad. :sad2: I could never do that when someone is suffering.

It is! Looking at my pictures again makes me want to be there right now! The Japan store is fantastic - so much to look at! It was nice to be in there and not be concerned about Henry grabbing something or breaking something.

popcorn:: Hey.. you're just as bad as me!! I hope this means you are busy busy busy!!! :thumbsup2

I know! I've been terrible this month with TRs! But yes, busy and stressed! I hope to get back on track, starting today!

Not a dinner, but I hope to see it from afar or from getting lucky enough to find a seat. Jill likes it, too, but I don't know how well the girls would sit through something like that.

The one time we took Henry he did not sit well through it. We pulled out our entire bag of tricks. Coloring sheets, toys, a camera and more. He was a lot younger...I think he'd be even harder to handle at this age though!

Let us know if you find the tomb warrior! I would keep that on my short list of a gift to buy, so unique and fun.

I left off as Sarah and I were wandering the World Showcase and we stopped at the beautiful Fountain of the Nations for a few minutes. We had a dinner ADR set for La Hacidenda coming up, so we headed back toward Mexico and I mentioned the new margarita bar, La Cava del Tequila. Neither Sarah or I are big drinkers - I have a VERY occasional drink, like 1 or 2 a year. Sarah has slightly more than that, but nothing regular. But, we thought it might be nice to get a drink before dinner. This is my very first Disney drink!

And whoa.

That baby is STRONG.

And not only did I get a margarita, but the bartender noticed my Birthday button and gave me several freebies.

A gal who doesn't drink and hasn't ate in several hours + La Cava freebies...ya, I wouldn't call that Pixie Dust! Needless to say, I was FEELIN' it!

Here is my drink

I have no idea what kind it is. After my free margarita flight from the bartender I think I pretty much just picked one that I liked and was unaware of the taste! I think it was something fruity.

Empty mini-margarita flight. Notice the tipsy pic. :sad2:

Who's laughing at Brook now???

Sarah certainly was!

I was so ready for some FOOD in my belly so we checked in a tad early to our meal, which was no problem.

IMG0519-L.jpg

We waited inside the little front lobby-which is beautiful.

IMG0524-L.jpg

Very soon we were brought into the restaurant and

IMG0525-L.jpg

seated at a table RIGHT next to the windows! We would have a perfect view of Illuminations - exactly what I was hoping for! :yay:

IMG0526-L.jpg

The chips arrived and I started to inhale them!

IMG0528-L.jpg

Sarah and I decided we would split an appetizer and an entree and possible a dessert.

Our appetizer, Taquiza - taco trio featuring Rib eye taco with chipolte salsa, roasted chicken taco with salsa verde, and Chilorio (marinated pork) taco.

IMG0529-L.jpg

These were DELICIOUS! I could have just easily eaten these for my entree and been happy.

And for our entree, Arrachera - Flank steak served with spring onions, tamal with rajas, cactus leaves, and beans

It also came with beans

rice

and tortillas.

It was a LOT of food! Definitely enough to split. The entree was good, but I enjoyed the tacos more. We both were very full by the end and even had leftovers.

Just as we were finishing up, Illuminations started and our view was spectacular!

As of that moment, this had been my favorite viewing of Illuminations!! I would book this again in a heartbeat and even wait for a window table.

After the show I scurried off to the rest room. When I came back there was a dessert at my seat! Turns out the waiters came over and sang Happy Birthday to Sarah not realizing I was the birthday girl! :rotfl2: It was hilarious. And she is so sweet, she didn't have the heart to stop them mid-song. So when I returned, they all came back over and sang again! All the guests around us got a kick out of it!

IMG0533-L.jpg

Despite being full from dinner, there is always room for a churro! It was tasty.

We rolled ourselves out of the restaurant and slowly headed to the front of the park, trying to soak up a few more minutes of the Epcot magic.

IMG0559-L.jpg

In all, I would recommend both the La Cava and La Hacidenda-espeically La Hacienda right before Illuminations! However, I do warn non-drinkers/lightweights like myself that the La Cava makes 'em strong! Those of you who have had a drink there, are they normally pretty strong, or did I get even more "Pixie Dust" than I thought?

I just remembered - I think my margarita was Passion Fruit!

:lmao: You sound like a light-weight when it comes to drinking! I should know, I am too! On our honeymoon, I hadn't eaten lunch but had a glass and an 1/2 of wine and well, suddenly everything was funny to me. DH still laughs about it! Love the tipsy pic you took too of your empty glasses!

Score on the table for Illuminations! I really, really want to try that restaurant next trip too. It looks so pretty inside and I've heard the food is great!

How funny that Sarah received your birthday wishes! I'd have been too shy to stop them from singing too. But it's sweet that they came back to sing to you, the actual birthday girl!

Looks like you guys had a blast! I have yet to see Illuminations but it's on my list.:thumbsup2

So glad you enjoyed La Cava and La Hacienda... they are among my favorites! They are not stingy with the tequila and sounds like you got some extra pixie dust. If you like guacamole, that is incredibly good as well. I shall be wearing a b-day button the next time I go no matter what time of year it is.

Totally agree... great spot for Illuminations view!

Sometimes those drinks are just strong.

I don't drink often anymore but I can usually handle a couple but a frozen drink and the flight - would have had me inhaling those chips too. :lmao:

Note to self - birthday trip to La Cava. ;)

I love La Hacienda, isn't it a great restaurant?? You guys got such a great table for Illuminations! I'm glad you enjoyed your meal there! :goodvibes

That's hilarious that the servers sang Happy Birthday to the wrong person!

Great spot for Illuminations....I'm glad you enjoyed your evening.

You can add me to the lightweight club. I'll stick to the orange soda. :rolleyes1 I wonder if the margarita you had was the one my sister tried. None of us are big drinkers and she said it was so nasty.

Glad you had a nice evening otherwise!

Great update, Brook. I'm not much of a drinker (well, I do like the slushies in France) and I don't particularly care for margaritas. Andy had the "tequila flight" with Mary's (MaryAZ) husband...well, they actually had two of them.

What a great seat you got when you dined and what awesome photos of Illuminations.

I laughed out loud at your tipsy pic. :lmao: Can you believe Franklin and I have never set foot in the Ditch on any of our three trips?!?! I feel this must be remedied in March (and again next October :rotfl:).

Wow! What a spectacular seat for Illuminations. Did you ask for window seat? Or was that your luck of the draw?

You did get a remarkable seat for Illuminations! :worship:
 at your pic from the ditch! I've never been there either, I don't drink tequila!

Yes - they are strong ritas. It's almost like getting two drinks in one which makes it worth the cost. I had 2 ritas the night I went there (well one there and one at La Hacienda), plus pool drinks, and I was feeling no pain on the way out of Epcot that night. Now the next morning -different story. :lmao:

Love the view. We are eating there in December, but it will be too early to hang around for Illuminations. Still, it will be dark out and nice to just soak in the ambiance of the restaurant.
