(Almost) Solo in May - Update 11/17 - Not sure if I'd call that Pixie Dust!

All caught up! Looks like you were having a great time!! I've really enjoyed my adult only trips.

I used the links to get caught up so you may have already answered this, but what camera were you using? I thought I read that you didn't bring your good camera & were using a point & shoot... if so, I'm impressed!! I much prefer a smaller camera at Disney & I think I'm in the market for a new one & would love one that takes pictures like yours. :thumbsup2 I may have to get myself an early Christmas present before our upcoming trip!

Oh... and the seizure lady would have totally freaked me out too!! Zach used to have febrile seizues & they are the scariest things I've ever been through!!

Thanks for posting the link in your other TR... I didn't know you were writing this one!! Now back to catch up! :goodvibes

Your welcome! I kept forgetting and forgetting to post it! I know I don't always catch links in people's siggys or visit the main boards often, so I miss them easily! :goodvibes

Yes, you are right, Scotty was the winner this year. ;)

Glad you enjoyed AIE. You know how much we love it!

It really was a great show!! I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's a great spot to get out of the heat and relax a bit too. :thumbsup2

Great update, Brook. I'm with you...that would have scared me to death.

What an awesome job on the FP's (I've not gotten anywhere near that in my TR, but I got some at the Studios as well).

That sandwich at Starring Rolls is the exact same one Mark and I shared last year -- yummy.

It was soooooo very scary. I spoke to my Mom later (she is a nurse as well), and she said the woman probably shouldn't be traveling alone, being she has seizures - but at least the CMs knew her!

That running with the bulls is something else, isn't it? We did it again in August - what a rush!

I just wanted to finally pop in here and say that I have been following BOTH of your TRs this whole time! When I saw a photo of Henry in your other one I just had to follow. He is so so cute and your videos of him are adorable. It's really fun being along for the ride on your TRs; I really enjoy them. :)

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi, long-time lurker, starting to come out of her shell and make an effort to comment on others' TRs! :)

Thank you!!! And :welcome: Glad to have you here!!! It's good to "meet" you!

Yikes Brook! I had no idea you were writing this TR too. I'm all caught up now though! :thumbsup2 It's been a fun trip so far! Just a couple questions for you.

You bussed directly from AK to MK? I didn't know this was possible. Do all parks have that option? Do the sandwiches at Starring Roles have any dressing on them? I have always wanted to eat there. Thanks!!

I started it a while back, it's been slow going, but I really want to get onto the August trip and the cruise PTR!

Yes, we did! AK and DHS do have buses directly to the other parks. DHS might not have a bus to Epcot, but it does have the boat or walking path.

At MK (and I believe Epcot as well), you need to go to the Ticketing and Transportation Center (TTC). Unless you are going MK-Epcot (or vice versa) then you'd monorail, and Epcot to DHS is probably just the boat.

The sandwiches do have a sort of dressing on them - it's pretty light...I'm super picky about mayo and the like, and these are good to me. You *may* be able to get one without, they could make it fresh I would assume.

Great chapter Brook! It sounded like a great day at DHS.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I thought it was kind of funny that because you were shaken up (after the lady had the seizure) they gave you fastpasses to Tower of Terror. Some people wouldn't look at that as "calming". :)

:rotfl2: I didn't even think of that! You are SO right!

That is really funny that she got fp's for TOT. Even though I love TOT, I wouldn't ever think of it as calming.

:lmao: I really didn't even think of this...too funny!!!

I can't remember if Henry did the jedi training on your most recent trip or not. If he didn't, I'm sure he will soon and will love it. I love watching Jedi training and it's so much fun when your little boy is up there. Can't wait to ride Star Tours. It holds a special place in my heart because my ds rode it on his first trip to Disney at 18 months. They let us ride it just him and I with no motion, so nice of them. We had to start the love for all things Star Wars early and it worked. Now he is all about Star Wars.

Speaking of nice, love all the extras you got for your Birthday. That is so cool.

Nope, Henry didn't in Feb/March, nor did he in August - the child has to be 4 years old, and Henry turned 4 on September 1. In August we asked, and they were very strict on the age, but Henry had sorta chickened out by that point anyway. We shall see if he'll do it on the next trip!

That is sooooooooo awesome about riding it without the motion!!!! When I hear stories like that I love Disney World all the more. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I was surprised at how many things I got for my birthday throughout the trip! I guess being there with just girlfriends/solo stands out a bit?

I thought the same thing. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Brook,
Despite the turnstile drama, you had a great day. I am finding the lines in general but usually the standbys run long and then short. I am thinking all the apps out there and people using them. People check find the short wait time and rush over there so if you are far away - the ride time changes substantially.

The TSM fastpass line being long probably means either big groups going back at once, or a CM who does not move the FP line effectively.:confused3

That's a good point about the apps. I didn't think of that. You are probably correct!

I was thinking the same thing too...lol. How scary though! I definitely would have been shaken up as well after that!

That stinks that the giant pastry was meh. It looks pretty awesome. Is it some sort of cinnamon bun hybrid thing?

It was very, very scary! I hope I never experience that again. I've seen minor seizures before, but not like this - and any time I've seen them, I've been with others who knew how to handle them.

Doesn't it look tasty? I was excited about trying it! It looked kinda like a chocolate croissant  but with bonuses. LOL It was really dense, thick and chewy, very little flavor, and no chocolate inside!

What a terrible scare. I would've been freaking out.
I can't beleive you gave away your FP's for TSM. I have only ridden it once. It was a neat ride, but I wouldn't wait in stand by for it.

It was so scary. I'll never forget that moment!! Disney handled it great though!

I wouldn't wait in standby for it either. I want to at some point to see the queue, but it will have to be at a Rope Drop or when it loses some popularity....whenever that will be!

Brook! I am so way behind in everything (both here and in real life, sigh!) that I just saw you have this TR going! Awesome!

I breezed through the updates and skipped all the chatter. Love how you were touring too. How fun! Your friend Sarah looks like a blast too. It must have been such a different feel to this trip minus your little man Henry! I'm glad you got the chance to go solo though, I'd love to do that some day.

Your AK day looked fabulous! Expedition Everest is always the best way to begin, right? Of course! We did the jungle trek for the first time in Jan. and man did we love it. Sooo well done! We've yet to do the Pangani one though.

You tried the chai! I'm a bit of chai tea snob so I really only like mine warm, not frozen but I'll overlook that in your case! It does look delish.:thumbsup2

Ah, Magic Kingdom. It makes me giddy as a school girl when I walk through the turnstile! And hello, that pic of bronze Mickey with the castle in the background is phenomenal! I tried to get an artsy shot like that last time, I won't tell you how many pics I had to snap in order to get it! Let's just say my family was starting to whine about the amount of time I spending doing so. Just another reason to go on a solo trip, right?

Oh my word! Your encounter with that poor seizure lady sounds terrifying Brook. No wonder you were shaken up. Good for you for springing into action though. Your adrenaline really does kick in, doesn't it? When I was a camp counselor, a little boy nearly drowned and I had to pull him from the water and lift him over my head to place him on the side of the pool. Totally adrenaline and after the ambulance took him away (he was fine, thank God!) I crumbled into a heap on the ground and cried hysterically for about 1/2 hour. The adrenaline made me shake like a leaf, sounds like the same thing happened to you. Good work Brook!:thumbsup2

You skipped TSM?? Oh, shame on you. Just kidding! We've skipped it before too when the line was horrendous. Looks like your HS day was a good one.

That was an awesome update. :cool1: Woo hoo to the FP mojo (even if you did have to help someone having a seizure to get one). That's a bummer. I'm a nurse and I rarely see medical emergencies outside of the hospital.

That is one cool pic of RnR. Glad you liked AI. It is a fun show! That cookie looks yum

and - I can't wait for Star Tours. I am afraid I might not get off it once i get on. :rotfl:

I didn't know they were that strict with the Jedi Training and age. Hopefully he will want to do it next trip. My ds liked it, but afterwards he did say that Darth Vader was scary. I think they do a great job on not letting the kids get scared, because he didn't really look that scared when he was fighting Vader. But he did choose not to do it again on our next trip, but I'm hoping that he will want to do it whenever we get back there. It was so much fun to watch, and not just his part, the whole thing was fun. Last time we were there they were having a meet and greet after each show, and we did that. So maybe if Henry is feeling apprehensive, he could do the meet and greet first and then the show. But whatever he does, I can see where they would be scared of Vader, he is tall and kinda scary.

What a scary experience at the turnstiles! I would have been shaken up, too. I am glad the woman was okay.

That Mickey cookie looks delicious! Love those chocolate dipped ears!

What a scary start to your morning! Good for you for helping out and calling 911, though! So many people just stare and dont do a thing in an emergency. Nice little perk for helping out---FP's to TOT:goodvibes Im glad to see that you are getting Birthday Pixie Dust too. I would think that most of that would go to the littles wearing buttons, but Im glad that the CM's notice the bigger kids too;)

/
Looks like you girls had a blast during that trip! Wow, you did get a lot done.

I love Sleepy Hollow. I love the sitting space at the back. We always go there at least once.

I love the AI experience. I think it's a good place to get some A/C, rest, and have a good show.

Very nice update even w/o many pix. You did a nice job of painting pictures with your words. :thumbsup2

I agree with your assessment of Star Tours. I've taken the trip at Disneyland and it's a great update for sure.

I also like that the pictures you did take are of food........:)

Starring Rolls...sandwiches....hmmmmm.......(this is me making a mental note and filing it under WDW June 2013).

Yes, we did! AK and DHS do have buses directly to the other parks. DHS might not have a bus to Epcot, but it does have the boat or walking path.

TTC- busses to both Ak and DHS
AK- Busses to TTC and EPCOT and DHS
DHS- does have a bus to the front of EPCOT. If you walk straight from the turnstiles forward, when you finally reach the curb that is the EPCOT busstop.
You should be able to also get to AK and TTC from that area too.
I think EPCOT has busses to DHS and AK too.

Every morning the bus would let us off there instead of pulling all the way into the bus stop area. I guess this way they can direct an empty bus to the stop that needs one the most. If guests get off at a stop that is not their resort then they might get confused?

I am guessing they may know that lady because this has happened before. I know if someone has a major seizure in my building, I will not forget them. You sort of form a bond then. :upsidedow
I am glad she feels comfortable enough to go alone to a place with lots of people. I guess she trusts that if that happens she will be cared for.

I am glad you posted the link.

Your arrival day was our last day. I remember texting back & forth to see if we could meet up but unfortunately it did not happen. That was the night I met Anita, Mark & Baylor (at 11:30 pm). I was so tired that night.:)

I am glad you did a lot of shopping. I love shopping (with someone elses money):rotfl: Love the purse you got.:thumbsup2 I bet you would have been sorry if you did not get it.

I am with you on TSM. I would much rather ride ToT, RNRC & Star Tours.

I didn't know that about the direct busses. Thanks Brook! And thanks for the info on Starring Rolls as well. Yum, yum.

Thank you for the pic filled TR!

I am planning a big trip for Dec 2012 and told my DS
that he could pick any resort in all of the world. He picked ASMovies! I tried to steer him to BC or WL or CR...and he has his heart set on A
SMo! I love the pics and cant wait for more!

Thanks for sharing

That is REALLY scary! I hope the woman was okay. Honestly, I'd be shaken up to. It shows how good a person you are to be so concerned over someone you didn't even know!
So, that pass thing they gave you... I don't understand.. what did it do? What was it for? I just kinda looks like it lets you in early...???:confused3

Don't you just love being a Fastpass Fairy Godmother? We ended up doing that a lot on our trip. I think we ended up giving away two sets of Space Mountain FPs, Big Thunder Mountain FPs and Soarin FPs. Crazy right? But that's just what happens when you end up enjoying wandering the parks a little too much and have too much urge to go back and enjoy the resort, as well! :rolleyes1

I love what you said about Belle being a bookworm, that's the exact reason I gave why I ranked Beauty and the Beast higher than Voyage of the Little Mermaid on my top-30 attractions list. :lmao:

Never done AI, may have to try that at some point!

Yep! That's our cheapie point & shoot, it's a Canon Powershot A1200. It was super cheap-probably one of the cheapest at Target! I want to say right around $100 total. It is a bit slow, and what you see on the screen is not NEARLY as good as what it looks like when you download it. I was very discouraged my entire trip thinking all my pictures were terrible...I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were once I downloaded! It's so handy for the parks because it's little, but I am used to the fast speed of my SLR, so I missed a few shots that I wanted.

Brook! I am so way behind in everything (both here and in real life, sigh!) that I just saw you have this TR going! Awesome!

It was so weird touring without Henry! I skipped so many "Must Do's" - seeing Disney through the eyes of an adult is very different!

:rotfl2: about your family starting to whine about how many pictures you were taking! I will probably get that from Henry before I know it. Thankfully Joe is similar to me in this, so he never minds - or he just goes on ahead without me!

That is so scary about the little boy almost drowning!!!! It's amazing what happens to us, super human strength and speed, when that adrenaline kicks in. It was a very frightening moment with that woman, I'm so happy there were so many other guests willing to help as well.

That was an awesome update. :cool1: Woo hoo to the FP mojo (even if you did have to help someone having a seizure to get one). That's a bummer. I'm a nurse and I rarely see medical emergencies outside of the hospital.

and - I can't wait for Star Tours. I am afraid I might not get off it once i get on. :rotfl:

I was so thankful for that nurse who came forward so quickly! I don't think my Mom (who is also a nurse) has ever really seen anything major outside of the hospital/health care center either....I'll have to ask her-that would be interesting.

Star Tours is a blast! I reallyyyyyy enjoy the updates. I can't wait to share my August TR with Henry and Star Tours!

I didn't know they were that strict with the Jedi Training and age. Hopefully he will want to do it next trip. My ds liked it, but afterwards he did say that Darth Vader was scary. Oh that's a great idea about the meet & greet! Thank you for the tip!!! I think he'd be up for that...then possibly choosing to fight. We will be there on June 7 (from our cruise), and I have it on the tentative plans. We shall see if Henry is brave enough to defend the galaxy. ;)

What a scary experience at the turnstiles! I would have been shaken up, too. I am glad the woman was okay.

That Mickey cookie looks delicious! Love those chocolate dipped ears!

It was a very scary moment. I was so relieved when others came to help - I had no idea what I was doing, but just trying my best to get the info out that was needed! Hopefully that was a once in a lifetime sort of situation!

I was surprised at the birthday pixie dust too! I didn't expect a THING, thinking it was more for the littles. All throughout my trip though, I experienced little bits!

Looks like you girls had a blast during that trip! Wow, you did get a lot done.

I love Sleepy Hollow. I love the sitting space at the back. We always go there at least once.

We did! We got a TON done. It's amazing how much more one can do without a child and stroller.

That back area of Sleepy Hollow is very nice. Joe and I enjoyed a treat there on our honeymoon, but have never gone back.

I love the AI experience. I think it's a good place to get some A/C, rest, and have a good show.

I was impressed! I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. It's a great spot to sit down for a while and still be entertained.

What are your dates in June again?! Is that a go still? We will be on our cruise, but we DO have one day in WDW - June 7th. I soooooo hope your dates are around then!!!

And yes, Starring Rolls is a GREAT spot, the best QS in DHS IMO!

TTC- busses to both Ak and DHS
AK- Busses to TTC and EPCOT and DHS
DHS- does have a bus to the front of EPCOT. If you walk straight from the turnstiles forward, when you finally reach the curb that is the EPCOT busstop.

I am glad she feels comfortable enough to go alone to a place with lots of people. I guess she trusts that if that happens she will be cared for.

I know DHS has a bus to AK for sure - we once meant to take the AKL bus, but took the AK! Did you hear of all the bus changes going on at MK? They will have direct park buses there eventually!

That is a great point about that woman - the CMs did act as if it's happened before, as soon as they saw her they seemed to recognize her and knew what to do.

Ahhhhh yes!!! I remember now too! That's what I get for not taking notes. :rotfl2: We were exhausted too - and Sarah didn't have a park ticket....it was smart of us to just relax that night. I'm glad you met up with Anita and family - such fantastic people. :goodvibes

I would have been VERY sorry if I didn't get that purse, I probably would have hunted it out in August. I use it a ton-it was a great buy! The only thing I don't like is the beaded straps-they just roll right off my shoulders.

I didn't know that about the direct busses. Thanks Brook! And thanks for the info on Starring Rolls as well. Yum, yum.

Your welcome! It's so handy that they have the direct buses. You might have to go TTC for Epcot and MK, but it's still easier than doing a resort in-between.

Starring Rolls is veryyyyy yummy - it's my favorite QS in DHS.

Thank you for the pic filled TR!

I am planning a big trip for Dec 2012 and told my DS
that he could pick any resort in all of the world. He picked ASMovies! I tried to steer him to BC or WL or CR...and he has his heart set on A

:rotfl2: That is so cute about your DS! I love it! I can see why he picked it. It's a very fun resort, and the new room re-furb is FANTASTIC. Just wait for those pics (if you haven't seen them already elsewhere on the web). I have no complaints about the resort, honestly. I've done Deluxe many times, and still had a great stay at Movies! I'll have LOTS more pics of the resort (and a video!) coming soon!

Just reposting this so you don't miss me! I posted at the same time you were posting your last replies but I got in right before you.

I'm anxious to hear about your camera!

:goodvibes Thank you for the heads-up! I have missed those before when we cross-posted.

Yummmmy!!!
That sandwich from starring rolls is my very favorite CS meal in all the world! I'm also with you on riding Toy Story Mania. I can take it or leave it. I'd much rather ride RnR and ToT!

I can see why! Starring Rolls is awesome - it's totally a hidden gem for lunch. The portions are HUGE and it's so good. And the delicious dessert options doesn't hurt. :rolleyes1

You are too kind! I think most anyone would have done what I did. I am a firm believer in the golden rule though - you should treat others how you want to be treated. If I was having a seizure, I would want someone to help me...know what I mean? It was such a scary moment though...I hope it was a once in a lifetime experience! ;)

The pass they gave me was a FP - it seems they used to pass out this style more often in the past, but it's basically just a certificate that allowed us both in a ToT. I've had them before when a ride broke down with us on it, or just as a "magical moment" from a CM. They seem to generally give the normal FPs now though.

Don't you just love being a Fastpass Fairy Godmother? We ended up doing that a lot on our trip. I think we ended up giving away two sets of Space Mountain FPs, Big Thunder Mountain FPs and Soarin FPs. Crazy right? Never done AI, may have to try that at some point!

 that is awesome about sharing all those FPs! It is fun to do-you can really make someone's day with them too.

And heck yes, if I were staying where you did, I would want to hang out at the resort too! LOL!
