1) Are there alligators in the jungle cruise water? Just wondering if that ride is still open out of curiosity.

2) I found out that the Jungle Cruise ride in MK used to make kid alligator jokes and they cut that out which is good.

I read last evening that the jokes will no longer be part of the show.
Another attraction people are speculating over is Peter Pan......Captain Hook in the gator's mouth...will it be removed?

I'm sure there have been alligators in the ride waters in the past. I've never seen a picture of that but there are plenty of pictures of alligators in the water surrounding Tom Sawyer Island and in other locations around WDW. I'm equally sure Disney does what they can to keep them out and remove them if they get in, but there would be almost no way to completely prevent an alligator from getting into the water there one way or another.

The bad joke on the Jungle Cruise goes something like “watch your children, or the alligator/crocodiles will.” :(

I'm of the opinion that the fake, animatronic alligators in the Jungle Cruise ride should not be removed but I'm glad they removed the joke.

The scene from Captain Hook and Tick-Tock (the crocodile) is an iconic shot from the classic Peter Pan film. My personal opinion, is that it should not be removed either.

They are crocodiles on the Jungle Crusie, not aligators (I know the distinction is lost on most). I have never seen a REAL aligator in the JC itself. Even though the waterways are connected, I believe there are some treatment systems that make it difficult for creatures to get in there.

I have heard they discontinued jokes about children and crocodiles on the ride. I don't know if they still point out Ol' Smiley and his girlfriend Ginger at all.

disney has already stopped the child and crocodile joke they say.

I'm sure any body of water in central FL is fair game for alligators.

The joke was about crocodiles, not alligators. I also read that the ride CM's were instructed to not make that joke anymore. I *think* one big distinction is that crocodiles are much more aggressive than alligators, also they are found in different parts of the world.

It should be reiterated that an incident like this one has never happened before in the decades history of Disney World. I would personally not choose to jump into that body of water, just because it's pretty gross.

You're probably ten million times more likely to hurt yourself when boarding the boat than to be ever spot a large creature (other than ducks and the occasional tadpole or fish) in the Jungle Cruise waters.

Exactly. As I've said in other threads, it was a horribly tragic situation that happened, but good grief there's so much over reaction and hysteria. I don't think this has happened in the 45 years Disney has been open. Just because it happened one time doesn't mean any reference to crocs or alligators should be removed throughout the entire park. It's also Florida, they are all around. Disney can do their best to keep them at bay, but no way to completely avoid any and all critters from being on the property.

As for Peter Pan, totally agree they need to leave the Captain Hook on the mouth prop. If anything needs to change, it's turning down the volume of Captain Hook saying "FIRE Mr. Snead!!!!" I can hear it through the entire ride and I find it annoying. :crazy2:

Probably none in Jungle Cruise that are real because of the traffic. By the time the test boats go out in the morning all the gators have been scared off or taken care of.

I have seen baby gators in the overflow area of Splash Mountain. A management CM was watching it the entire time to make sure it didn't get close to guests while they waited for the animal control team to come and get it. I've also heard reports of them being in the lagoon around Tom Sawyer but when that does happen they close the entire island and do not run boats out there until the alligator is removed.

It was confirmed yesterday that all removed gators are killed if they are over a certain size as moving a threat gator would just move the threat.

It has happened twice (also happened in 1986), but your point is well-taken and I agree. Twice in 45 years isn't an epidemic.

FYI, it's "FIRE, Mr. Smee." It is loud. The Peter Pan attraction is old, and the sound zones aren't as well defined as on newer attractions, so it's easy to hear the bleed over. Still, it's a classic.

Hmmm...learn something new every day. Never was much into Peter Pan, I always thought it was Sneed. When my kids were younger, they watched Jake and the Neverland Pirates, which I tried to avoid. I do agree the ride is a classic though, and I enjoy it.

From a pure business and PR standpoint, Disney wants this to be forgotten as quick as possible. I've heard that the croc jokes will be omitted from the ride and it wouldn't surprise me to see Peter Pan "down" for a week or two until this blows over. You want to do away with any possible reminder while people are in the happiest park in the happiest place.

....even worse is his oh so not British accent .....god awful....I'd love it if they added the real actors voice to it.

Man... good point. "Watch out, Ginger snaps" has been a staple joke in my household.... sad to see it go, but I know it would be seen as insensitive.

Crocs/gators, I know they're different, sorry for the mix up! You all knew what I meant

And I'm not worried about them in the ride water, I was just wondering out of pure curiosity.
