Alligator Bayou room requests, does it matter?

I read that buildings 17,27,28,34, and 36 used to be smoking optional buildings in AB. Has anyone stayed in one of these old smoking optional rooms? If so, how was it? Was there still a lingering smoke smell?

I wasn't in any of those. But I did read that the smell is gone.

We stayed in building 24 a few years back. It really seemed like a long walk to the main building where the food court was. The grounds are beautiful and it was a very pleasant walk, but it wasn't just a quick skip over for a drink refill. We have been spoiled by being at the Poly in buildings close to the GCH so you could just run over in a minute for a drink or snack.

BUT ... we really liked POR (and can't choose FQ since we are a family of 5). We had alot of fun there. We fished in the fishing hole, took the boat to DTD and rented a boat of our own one day. It is a beautiful resort and we had alot of fun there!

:thumbsup2

We just got back from 2 nights in building 34. It is a long walk from the building to the food court/front desk. 5-10 minutes depending on your pace. But we were close to the bus stop. We had a second floor room and with luggage that was a pain. I would request a first floor room if you can.

Looking at the map building 14 and 18 look like really good option for staying at Alligator Bayou - even with standard view rooms it would be hard to find a place in these buildings that do not have a decent view or would be a close walk to bus stops/dining. Anyone have any thoughts of requesting 3rd floor of either of these buildings?

Yes, there CAN be long treks to the main bldg, depending on where you are. We had always been fairly close until Oct. of 2006. Holy Crap. We were in Bldg 24 at AB and the walk was horrid to the food courts, etc. Its a beautiful place for walking, but when you just want to run up for a quick drink, or to grab something at the General Store, it sorta stinks. Oct. 2007, I complained at check-in about this and was hoping they could at least get us a TEENY bit closer. We were in bldg 18 and it was wonderful! Very close to everything. I'll keep requesting closer bldgs and the AB section, but as long as we're at POR we're happy. This truly is home to all of us!:goodvibes
