I guess we have been lucky the past several years in this shop. We have always run into very nice CM's who helped us to find "safe" snacks.

We stopped in this weekend and had a MUCH difference experience. We asked one CM if she had any info on Allergy safe treats and was told "ask someone else". So I asked another CM if a Manager was available. When the "manager" came out I commented on how nice and helpful the CM who went to find her had been and started to ask for allergy info. No sooner than the word "allergy" was out of mouth the Manager was telling me "if your allergy is peanuts nothing is safe in here!" . Even after I explained that we are not allergic to peanuts, she said "the health board has told me to tell you that nothing is safe in here". So basically according to this Manager if you are allergic to ANYTHING, nothing in the Goofy Candy Store is "safe". Not even the labelled items that list ingredients, nothing!

On the plus side we went over to GS and they printed off a list of "safe" items for us and the locations they are usually found in.

Hi Livndisney

I too always have the same problem in the candy store.:headache::headache:

My DD who is 9 has a dairy allergy, and we always struggle to find dairy free treats for her in there, and the CM I have asked in the past have never been helpfull.:mad:

Thank you for the tip on going to GS, I have never thought of doing that in the past, but will certainly do it for our next vacation in December.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Hopefully DD will be able to try some new goodies this time!!:banana:

I am sorry to hear about your experience at Goofy's. We are going in December and my children have nut allergies. I hope we can find safe treats for them to have.

Hi

I hope you can find something for your children too.:thumbsup2

I think it's such a shame especially when the treats are for children.:mad:

I always makesure that I have some kind of treat for my DD tucked away in a bag that I have brought along with me thought just incase there is nothing that we can find for her.:lovestruc

It's a bit of a pain but at least I know that she won't be disipointed!! - were going in December too!!:laughing:

Just to let you know, Goofy's Candy Kitchen has open pans of peanuts which may cause problems for your nut allergy kids.

We went in Feb, and my eldest DD has a nut allergy, and has unfortunately experienced anaphylaxis here at home  and if I were you I would definately take a few treats from home to have in your bag and then at least you know that your children are safe!

We had contacted WDW prior to our visit and they forwarded us plenty of information regarding Dining in the parks!, but it took us nearly 2wk's to eventually find a Divvies cookie (I think!) nut free from the MK Bakery ;) and even then she wasn't too impressed :rolleyes1
We did run into a few CM's who just didn't get what we were after :headache:
Have a wonderful trip :thumbsup2

If you are very familiar with the food allergy, you might not be giving the CMs enough info to help you - you think you are, but they just don't have the same info stored in their heads that someone dealing with an allergy on a daily basis tends to have. Add to that the fact that there are tons of allergies out there, and the CMs are having to deal with that all day - no wonder they get confused!

I prefer them to be honest. In a place like that where foods are all intermingled in the cases nothing that is not prepackaged is safe. The majority of the prepackaged foods had cross contamination warnings as well. I think the only things I found that were safe were little tins of mints. I tend to buy a few allergy safe snacks at MK bakery and just carry them so when the rest get something at Goofy's or wherever I have something nice to eat.

I'm sorry, but IMO if the allergy is peanuts, i wouldn't even try to find a "safe" treat in there.

I am allergic to peanuts...newly diagnosed 2 years ago. I used to frequent Goofys Candy store once or twice a trip as well as always leaving with liek a pound of fudge.
Now, i don't even go into those places. Does it stink soemtimes no tbeing able to eat there, yes. But in a place that has an open conatiner of peanuts, i wouldn't consider it to be safe at all. Also, most of teh packaged treats within WDW say that they are made on the same equipment with peanuts so even if the allergy is not cross contamination, they are going to tell you it's not safe b/c they are extra cautious about it.

My 3 yr old ds have a life-threatening nut allergy. We went to Goofy's last year & ended up getting him pre-packaged candy like Pez & Laffy Taffy. They are unopened & not made there. They weren't as yummy as many of the other offerings there but he was happy to get candy no matter what it was! He couldn't even have the popcorn since the oil used to pop it contains coconut oil. We just have to adapt.
