What do you take for allergy relief?
I took some children's benedryl today (for the first time) and I was asleep on the floor for 2hrs.

I have 2 kids so I probably shouldn't take this frequently so I wonder what everyone else takes.

Thanks

Claritin and Allegra are good and non-drowsy. Reactine is good too, but a slight chance of drowsiness. Aerius is new and helps with congestion without having an actual decongestant.

Benadryl puts me right to sleep.

Currently, for asthma/allergies (mine overlap so much it's hard to be on one without the other!) I'm on singulair, nasonex, zyrtec D, advair, xopenex, albuterol and prednisone. No relief for allergies even with all that, of course, but I am breathing okay today.

I have done Claritin and Allegra in the past, too, and neither made me sleepy.

So far, I've just taken the children's Benadryl. And then I walked around the house like a zombie.

I've got Zyrtec and Allegra in the house (my son uses them). I'm afraid to try it for there at I will either be up all night or I won't be able to get up in the morning.

My youngest daughter has severe allergies. She has been on Claritin, Clarinex, Zyrtec, Flonase, Benedryl.....we tried Alavert this year and she is responding wonderfully. Doesn't make her drowsy and only 1 pill lasts 24 hours! :sunny: If you go to their website, you can download a $4 coupon as well. :cheer2:

Allegra is the only one I have found that doesn't make me sleepy. You need a perscription though.

Benadryl puts me to sleep too, give it to my DS5 and he's hyperactive for the next few hours. How can the side effects of one drug be such polar opposites? It's kind of funny, but it probably totally reflects our personalities!

Claritin non-drowsy, OTC. I just found that Target has a store brand that compares to Claritin for super cheap. It seems to be working just as well.

I got some Loratadine 10m Antistamine. You take 1 tablet every 24 hours (nondrowsey formula). It's was alot less money and seems to work pretty good. I bought it at Sam's Club.

My 10 yr old takes Alavert. She use to take prescription meds for it but after awhile they stopped working.

ETA: I wanted to add this.....Her allergies were still bugging her all day and she cant take another pill til morning. I closed up the windows and put on the a/c. She's still coughing some but its not the deep cough that it was.. So if running the a/c is an option try that. I know in my area the next 4 days the pollen levels will be up to like 11!!!

Wow aimeedydan you sound like my DS. Hope you do ok for the rest of the spring allergies.

My DS (8) has bad allergies and the nasonex helps a lot with the seasonal allergies so you might not need an antihistamine. He does well with the Zyrtec if we need addtional meds for him. I would only do the benadry a night! Good luck.

I would go with a name brand that doesn't make you drowsy. I have tried both off brands and name brands and I feel that claritin and allegra work best if they are non drowsy.

My son takes Singular & Flonase. Prior to finding these two year ago, he literally could not function in school. Either he was miserable with his nose & eyes running or he was groggy from his OTC meds.
