Just returned from Wisconsin Saturday on a Allegiant flight. I did not mind the flight but I'm having a hard time trying to book flights for our family in December. They only have availability out to August, when Will they start moving the months up I would like to take care of it A.S.A.P. I have found get deals on other airlines for the same time confused as to why they are still so far out. I asked a ticketing agent at the gate and she did not have a answer. I love the price but the idea of having to wait is crazy. I'm plaining the trip for 7 people plus 4 children. I'm thinking of just setting a date and if they do not have the dates available booking with a different airline. I will be using them again in two weeks so I hope they have it changed by than. :confused

I'm from Tennessee and they are showing schedules through December. Not sure why they don't have them out for eveyrone. We are getting airfare for $39 each way!!:cool1:

It looks like both of you have had experience with Allegiant. It looks like I can get R/T flights for about $385 for the 3 of us. How would you rate their service?

What about car rentals at SFB? Any good codes? For one week rental, Allegiant has a deal with Alamo which adds about $180 to the cost of the tix. Seems a little high for a compact, but it was about $40 cheaper than the rental sites. Any suggestions?

How far is the drive to SFB to WDW? Is it easy to get in/out of SFB?

Thanks.

Brian

As far as how nice the Sanford airpor is...it is great. It is maybe a 100 yard walk down the hall from where the plane lands to the luggage pick up. When we made our trip through there it wasn't crowded at all. I want to say it was about an hour drive down to WDW. But that hour is more than made up for in the convenience of a not busy airport and how quickly you can make it through there.

This will actually be my first time using them. I have a lot of the same questions that you do. Hopefully, someone can answer all of them for us!:thumbsup2

We will not be flying Allegiant for December trip. they just posted the prices and they went up a lot from now till then. the sticker shock of 193.00 one way is to much for us plus luggage.

If you are contemplating rental car and the cost is $180.00 or more, consider using a car service. The rates sart below the rental car rate and the car service can provide you with direct transportation to Disney, with or without a grocery stop. There are vehicles that can hold your crew and luggage with no extra charges. If you only plan on doing Disney the rental car will sit in the parking lot for the duration of your stay. I have heard that some of the resorts at Disney charge a parking fee, but that is not verified by me. One of the biggest unrealized advantages of car service you can start your vacation at the airport as you don't have to worry about how much more driving do I have to do to get there.

Car service will get you out there in about an hour after you pick up luggage. The car service can provide the baby seats and booster you may need at no extra charge and drivers that will give you tips for your stay.

Check the Orlandosanfordairport.com web site for a listing of permitted vehicles at that airport.

Disney Magical Express does not service the Orlando Sanford International Airport.

Allegiant has been slow to release schedules for a few markets. Toledo is still waiting for September! I have emailed Allegiant through their Twitter page and I get non-commital answers about it -basically they will be out when they get out (but they said it nicer!) This has made me really nervous about them sticking around, so I booked with one of the mainstream carriers.

I have flown Allegiant a number of times and have had no issues. The prices are great and the service is pretty good. It does feel a bit like a cattle call and there is a lot of shoving the bags in the bins because they charge for every dang bag, so everybody tries to carryon everything. If you can deal with that, go for it! On my last flight with them they had a 50/50 drawing midflight and I won $150, which was my airfare!

Sanford is a great small airport and its really easy to get around. There is no Magical Express but you can get decent rentals there. You can not use Priceline for a car from Sanford, though.

Good luck travelers!

Air-Trans is offering a direct flight from MCO to MKE for 200.00 for a round trip. We flew a couple of times with Air-Trans with only one glitch but is was because of airplane trouble and it was on a connecting flight.

One thing you have to remember about Allegiant is that they are always very expensive when their rates first come out. They tend to be cheapest about 1-2 months out from date of travel. They want to fill seats at the highest price possible and then fill in with those super cheap airfares we all hear about, like $39 each way.

I just booked our flights to MCO from MKE (NWA) and with all the taxes and fees, it was right around $200 per person. That was an amount I was happy to pay per person. :)

Once you get all the fees added on from Allegiant, you'd be up to about the same price, anyway.

Allegiant still has not released Sept/Oct/Nov airfare for the market I'd be flying out of. That is inexcusable.

So I went with the sure thing and don't need to worry about it anymore. :thumbsup2

Maybe they don't know if they'll by flying the route you want in Sept/Oct/Nov. Maybe they haven't decided how many days a week they'll fly. Maybe they decided not to fly that route after September.

I look at it differently then you do. To me what's inexcusable would be to take reservation if the schedule was very tentative.

Airlines are reducing unprofitable routes. Routes to Orlando tend to require unprofitable discounting.

Some markets Alegiant only schedules flights to Orlando during the summer. Airlines don't generally release a scheduel in pieces. Once the flight schedule is releases there is a good chance anything "missing" like flights from your local airport to Orlando will either be back next summer, or not at all.

I'm not talking about only flying to Orlando ~ none of the markets they fly to have been released for that time period.

Since Midwest is only a seasonal carrier to Orlando, Allegiant neatly fills that gap when Midwest does not fly. For them not to fly to Orlando during that time period is a bad decision on their part (if that ends up being the case).

Seeing as they lost my business to a different carrier, it really doesn't matter to me what they do. :thumbsup2

I got a quote for Orlando Sanford to Appleton airport, they do have tose posted but they are very high 193.00 each way that is over 400.00 With all the taxes added, not including luggage of course.

We would have flown out of ATW, also. I'm not willing to wait until later this summer for airfare to come out for Allegiant, while all the other carries rates could possibly be increasing.

That's why I booked when I did. I think Allegiant will eventually price themselves out of this market (ATW/GRB).

It may appear a bad decision to you; but if they're losing money on every flight in and out of your local airport, it's a good decision for them.

That they've lost your business because they have not released schedules is moot.

If they are losing money on every single flight in and out of here, obviously I'm not the only customer they've lost. ;)

Alligiant just posted airfares out of Grand Rapids for Orlando over Thanksgiving. Bought tickets at the airport counter (saved the $13.50 person internet booking fee--isn't it cheaper to book on a website than with a person??) and the outbound was $119 (up $10 from a few days ago when first released) and the returns were $139 (up $30 from the original posted fares a few days ago. That was yesterday. Today--exact same dates--the outbound is $169 (up $30 from yesterday) and the return is $299 (up a whopping/shocking $160 one way from yesterday--YESTERDAY! If booking holiday dates--BOOK EARLY!

One question to those with Allegiant experience: we did not pay for seat assignments--no small children. How are seats assigned to those do did noy purchase exact seat assignments? At the counter where you check-in? At the gate? Is there ample overhead room for carry-ons for everyone? any advice!

We were given our seats at the counter in Toledo and in Sanford. I was there plenty early and asked nicely if we two adults could be seated together and there was not a problem. I have done that at least 3 times without issue.

Overhead room is tight. Since they charge for every bag, everybody tries to to carry-on and its difficult to find space. On my last flight they made people gate check their stuff because there just wasn't enough room.

If they run out of overheard space and make you gate-check your carry ons, are they charging you the fee to check them?
