I decided to stay at the All Star Sports Resort from 12/22-1/2/01. Our first night went well since we arrived a day early and were able to get a room that night and were able to stay there for the duration of our time.
However, after that it was total hell. To begin with, they put 32 basketball teams plus I don't know how many cheerleading teams, in the complex. These kids ran amok. They had no respect for anyone in the complex. I was cursed at, spit on, had vulgar comments made to myself and my kids, and no one responded to our complaints. Chairs were thrown into the pool area and no chaperones in sight to control these kids. Needless to say, I went to the front desk and complained numerous times, with no action taken and no one got back to me, until three days before I was to leave. I wad talking to a gentleman behind the bar at the All Star Sport and he told me that he would forward my complaint to someone. At 1:45AM (can you believe that), I got a manager calling me (because I was sleeping) I did not get his name. He told me that they could not ban the youths from the resort and that because they were so out of hand that night, extra security personnel had been placed on the grounds and kids were returned to their chaperones and hopefully the problem alleviated. He promised that someone from the managerial staff would call me the next day, but I am home now and still waiting for someone to call me.
We went to the Magic Kingdom on New Year's Eve, and guess what - the rowdy kids were there, jumping on the stages and mashing. One fell and cracked his head. After a while the DJ told them that they had to behave or security would be coming. These kids were out of control. At 9:30PM we called it quits and headed back to our room. So much for New Years Eve celebration and all the money we spent.
It is amazing that no one got back to us with our complaint. We have been to Disney numerous times with our families and friends, this was our second Christmas, and it was our worst experience. As a travel agency, I would not recommend anyone to this hotel and I told the staff this. It shocked me that if this was the way they treated an agent, what would they do with a cast.
I have been down there for the kids birthdays and whenever we mentioned it, they were wished a happy birthday and given some cakes during our meal reservations. This time nothing was ever done or said, even by the restaurant members or the hotel staff (normally they send the kids a little beanie and a signed card from a character). My son was totally disappointed and so was I.
As I said, this was our holiday from hell - first we were all sick, it was cold andd miserable, we lost our christmas gifts (and mean everything) and then we had to go out to buy gifts and try to get them all wrapped and no one could help us. Finally a cast member in the gift shop gave me numerous WDW plastic bags, where I put all the gifts into them, but I had no tape or any kind of string to tie them. My daughter went to the front desk to ask to borrow a pair of scissors, in order to cut up one of the bas and make ties with them, but we were told that they could not lend them to me. So, needless to say, it was a bummer all the way around.
One of the cast members at Peter Pan's Ride told my son to get "his little butt off the ride," since he could nor ride it alone with this sister. They had already done this earlier with no problem. Upon asking to speak with someone about this a manager came over to us and said that he thought it was just miscommunication and what would we like him to do.
I am not a WDW hater, have always stayed on sight and I will go back, hopefully not in December again and stay at a different hotel. Perhaps it will be a better experience.
