All Star Resort Pools close early

Just read on KTP that All Star pools will close when the life guards go off duty for "safety" reasons. So no more after hours swimming.

If it is really for safety why does it only apply to the All Stars?

I think all the Disney resorts do this now. It happened after someone drowned swimming after lifeguard hours.

Am I correct in assuming that the quiet pools at the mods (POR) have enforced hours too? Totally fine but I want to make sure before we make plans for our upcoming trip.

It is interesting considering quiet pools never have a lifeguard anyways. What about a swim at your own risk?

A child drowned at POP, after hours a few years ago when "Swim at your own risk was still in effect". All WDW pools now have posted hours.

They weren't enforced at por quiet pools last August, we were swimming many evenings at midnight. Has this changed since then? and how would they enforce it when there are no fences around the quiet pools?

Its a shame if they only fence the quiet pools at the value resorts and not the moderates, just because we're choosing to stay at a cheaper resort doesn't mean we're less responsible.

They now have fences up. They used to look the other way (I swam after hours), but now that there are fences I think security would take action. The fence is where I draw my own personal line, too :)

Also, I'm pretty sure the Value quiet pools do have lifeguards now.

I don't think every pool on property has a fence yet. It's my understanding they are working on it and eventually I believe they will but for now, some are unfenced.
Though that doesn't change the fact that they do have hours. They do. Just not much of a way to enforce them without a fence.
I think in some cases the guest will be left alone but it is possible the guest will be asked to leave the pool. It will be one of those cases of YMMV things. Maybe even day by day

They could enforce it by calling security on you. Whether there is a fence or not, they have posted hours. Really, you need a fence to deter you? Why can't you just follow the rules on the sign? You are basically posting here to see if you can circumvent WDW rules - isn't that against the guidelines on the DIS?

I don't mean to sound like some kind of rebel... anyone who knows me would laugh at that idea.

But I always look at rules in two ways: written policy, and actual enforcement. Sometimes the people who write the rules have no idea how things are being enforced by management on site.

A fence tells me, "no, really- we're not just writing a note on a sign to eliminate our liability; we mean stay the heck out of our pool".

Sorry, a rule is a rule, Written or enforced makes no difference. Just because someone isn't around to enforce the rule doesn't remove the rule.
I mean, you probably have a rule for your kids not to drink. Just because you aren't around doesn't mean you are ok with your kids drinking, right?

OK - if you are currently at All Star Music or have been there is the last several weeks, has a fence been erected at Music? I am going to be there in 23 days and was just wondering.

I respect that argument. I guess I'll just narrow it to this one specific case: yes, as an adult, a fence does make a difference to me, as to whether I'll jump in a Disney pool or stay out. This has played out in real practice- when I saw the fence last month, I stayed out. Before that, I went in after hours. I wasn't the only one, but that's not too relevant I suppose.

I do understand what you are saying. As an adult we often feel we can make decisions for ourselves.
And to some degree I do agree with you
As long as you do realize that even without a fence the pools do have operating hours and as long as you accept the risk you take to swim anyway, knowing you may be asked to leave, then go ahead.
I do think if you've been asked to leave once it does cross the line to return. (not directing this at you by any means, just tossing it out there)
I sure hope no one would complain if asked to leave when a pool is closed, even without a fence. That would also cross a line (again, this is not directed at you, just a general thought that someone out there would do it)

The hours and rules are posted.
Since the rules were tightened up there have been folks swimming after hours that have been told to leave. I think many warn about this because it's kind of a waste of time to get changed, go to the pool, get in and then be instructed to leave.

Security happened to pass by, made a lighthearted remark, and moved on. That reinforced my thought that I was swimming at my own risk.

I can see no swimming after hours because it should be quiet so people can sleep....... A fence is a poor choice. First, how ugly. Second, if someone does climb it anyways and becomes distressed while swimming, response time is greatly increased because Disney's probably not going to watch the pools now as closely at night and you have someone to still unlock it.

Really life guards, fences and security are not responsible for others children... It's sad that happened.... But the child wasnt monitered by his parents and was dead for almost an hour according to reports. You don't take your eyes off your child in or around a pool ever if they can't swim. That is the rule they should have followed.
