All Star MUSIC - nightmare!!!!!!!!

So sorry for your experience with them. I know it's horrible because we had them last year at POFQ. I trapped the bedbug in a little paper cup and took it to the front desk. Had to have everything heat treated and actually threw out my suitcase when I got home.

Thanks for the post. All Star Music is our destination in December. I shudder to think of the possibility but know how easy it can be for them to spread. Could have been "brought from home" by the previous resort guest. DGD brought them home from church camp a few years ago and yes, it's a nightmare getting rid of them. It's good to know, however, that Disney will treat your personal belongings if they're discovered and yes, we WILL check. Thanks again for the information. :tink:

I don't see a picture.

It is not 100% true that bed bugs are only in the beg. They can be on the walls, furniture, bedding, in any little crack that a piece of paper can be stuck into. they have a much harder time moving across some materials but can be found pretty much anywhere.

I had them in my first NYC apartment and it was one of the worst experience. 2 of my friends have had them in the last year and I am always worried of getting them again. It has been over 7 years since I dealt with them and I still hate the idea of getting them again.
Yes its true that they can be in furniture, walls, anywhere really. its really disgusting.

Had them at Pop last year. Didn't find til last night. It was a mess and a hassle. It Disney made it right and we didn't bring them home. I've read they can crawl in your luggage on a plane. So we never bring a thing into the house. Clothes go straight into washer and dryer and luggage gets bagged up and out in extreme heat or cold for weeks. Luckily we don't travel often. Lol.
Pop last year? When did you travel? I was at Pop last year. Just curious. Im glad Disney's method of treating stuff works against those critters. I cant imagine bringing those suckers home.

Wow, I am really sorry you had to go through that. I am terrified of this very thing - I check like a madman when we get to the resort but inevitably, as soon as the lights go off that 1st night I am a nervous wreck. Like you, I am terrified of bugs and the thought of these things makes my blood run cold.
I can sympathize 100%. It honestly makes me nervous to travel. I remember last year in July when my son went to NYC. We stayed at a hotel by the airport and I saw a bug on my sheets...right away I asked to switch rooms. Looking back now, (and I didn't know it then), but that was most likely a bed bug.

Oh yes, most likely the bugs were brought in from another family. My question is this...doesn't housekeeping check for these things? I would think that they should. :(

Part of the problem is that its hard to catch them until its bad.

If only one or two are in the bed you won't find them.

Kind of like lice if you/your kids have every dealt with that. When your first infested itsjust one or two you won't even notice. Once its bad enough for you to have noticed they can be in everything.

Yes. Last October at Pop. I think 80s? Roger rabbit area, facing computer pool. Disney took care of everything. An awful experience but I know no other hotel would've done what they did.

I dunno. Pest control/management scoured our room and reported finding only one bug. But of course this was pest control and not housekeeping.

Yes, can see the pics now. Yuck! I can say I'd feel the same as you, I'd want to never travel again. I have a friend who brings her own sheets on all trips, no matter how long or short. She pulls all linens off the bed and remakes it with her stuff. She's done that way before bed bugs made news, hers is a germ thing. Always thought she was a bit OTT with it but she may be on to something. At least you'd get a really good look at the mattress when you strip and remake the bed. I'd just hate to give up housekeeping for an entire trip. Park of vacation for me is I don't have to make the bed for a few days.

Wow, didn't know that only one bed-bug could do so much damage in one night! It was just chance you happened to spy that sucker when you did and glad Disney made it right for you! Hope the rest of your trip was making magic memories!

I was at pop Oct.26-31st. Curious if we were there at the same time. YIKES! In any case, I was in the 60's section facing the lake. Far from you. :)

I think that's a great idea to be honest. That way you can easily check for the suckers.

They do but as you have stated, you checked too, and didn't see them. So chances are high they didn't see them either.
Yes good point. Like pp had said, if its just one or two bugs, its easy to miss them.

No kidding right? Had I not seen that sucker, I would've assumed it was mosquito bites on my legs/arms. Disney really knows how to treat a guest right. I was really happy with how they handled the situation.

And now I'm horrified. We will be there in December, and we cannot afford to swap resorts. What section/building were you in?

Don't worry. Not a single resort in the world is immune from this things. Sadly the most effective pesticide against them also was found to cause cancer in children so you can't use it any more. Once that went away they are back on the rise. There is absolutely nothing you can do to ensure you won't get a hotel clear of them simply because of how they survive. All you can do is leave you luggage in the bathroom (the tile and mostly metal is harder for them to survive and hide in) and check all the beds and drawers before taking out any of your stuff. In an environment like a hotel where the sheets are changed often they typically will be in the cracks of the head board, side tables, or dressers not the bed itself.

I do wish hotels would have to put their mattresses and box springs in bed bug covers. If they did that and did thorough inspections every few weeks it would really prevent this from ever happening. Yes it is expensive to maintain but I imagine Disney could cut into their profits just a tiny bit to do it. The big problem is when you have a hotel at capacity 90% of the year and people who want their hotel rooms ASAP you can't really get a trained inspector in to thoroughly check every single room until there is a problem.

OP can tell you but it will be meaningless to know. Swapping resorts or even avoiding that building wouldn't do a thing to avoid them. They are capable of showing up anywhere, from an All Star all the way to the Roy Suite at GF. What you spend on the resort means nothing. Bed Bugs don't care ;)
Best you can do is as PP said, check the common places and be alert during your stay.

I'm well aware they can be anywhere at any time, but my own irrational curiosity just wants to know I didn't request that exact building. It may be misguided, but it would comfort me, nonetheless.

Dont worry, I'd be curious too....Rock Inn section, room 3411.

We got them in NYC too. My husband and I have taken care of my grandmother with dementia in our apartment for nearly a year, gone through the death of a parent, planned a difficult wedding, and had many other stressful events in our life. Nothing, NOTHING compares to having had bedbugs. The more you learn about them the more hopeless everything seems. Our landlords were terrible and it was financially devastating, even (or especially?) as a renter.

Guys, a great idea for nervous travelers-- did you know you can get an "oven" for your stuff? I had a suspicious bite on my hand last January at BWV and my mom and I both ordered one and baked our stuff. Most home freezers don't get cold enough to kill the eggs, but the high temp you need is actually quite low. The advantage to these is that there is a temp sensor so you can ensure the core of your stuff has reached the right temp for long enough. Highly worth it for your peace of mind. Oh, and the super huge Ziploc bags (that fits like, sports equipment) are also very helpful in conveying items between your luggage and the oven. Better yet, only use luggage that will fit in there wholesale!

How long ago was this. As a renter you should have paid 0. Of course mine happened before the city passed those laws but I put my stuff in storage for over 2 years and washed then dried 3 times every single piece of clothing I owned which cost a ton. Now landlords have to at least treat the apartment and those next to and above/below at their cost with only city approved people.

Two friends have had them in the last year and my fear of getting them again has been very hard to balance with the friendship. We have so much stuff now that idk how we would ever go through everything.
