All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

We arrive at ASMu in 15 days!! Our second time in a family suite and a time or two before that. The family suite is such a perfect set up for families with little ones. I love having a space to 'live' after the kids have gone to bed.

I enjoy the theming, appreciate the quieter atmosphere and you can't beat the price. My biggest draw back is the distance to MK. With 3 little ones we spend alot of time there.

All Star Music overall gets a A-/A

The staff was great

Ease of check In: A-

Check in was quick, staff was friendly , helpful and knowledgeable answering questions.

Transportation ----> A

Get a Preferred room - right near the Calypso pool. you're close to the main lobby area, and can get right off the Disney Busses and get back to your room and/or get quickly off the Magical Express from the airport, so won't have to go as far with your luggage.

There is a gift shop
Front Desk area, and
a Quick Service Cafeteria.

Tip: I am not positive on this one , but I have heard if you stay at an ALL star property you can use the pools at the other ones (Movies and Sports) as well and use anything on those properties as well.

Parking: A

Tons of parking spaces available.
also 24/7 security patrols in golf carts and trucks by security staff

Pools: A-

I only used the Calypso Pool right by the entrance but it was good.
Would have gotten an A if it was heated but it was still good as it was in the 90s when I went in May 2008.

Layout: A-

Property is fairly easy to move around, and everything is close by (within a 5 minute walk). Bus transit right out front of the front desk.

Drive to the Parks: B+/A- If you choose to drive to the parks

You're basically a hop skip and a jump from hollywood Studios/Animal Kingdom,
and about 15-20 min from Magic Kingdom/Epcot, depending on the time of day and route you take.

Services: B-/B : There aren't that many services right near the property.
The closest thing is the Disney McDonalds
about a 10-20 minute drive to all the Businesses along 192 and Kissimee businesses depending on where you're going.

Businesses in the area:

Publix Supermarket on 192
Old Town Amusements: 192
Target: 192
Restaurants - 192.

ROOMS: Rooms would get a B/B+

Just average rooms nothing fancy, but then again how long are you really in your rooms in Disney I only got in late in the evening and went to bed shortly after, got up early the next day, so I didn't need a super huge room. I'd rather have a smaller room for the value. For the value the rooms were about right. In my opinion.

Overall Grade A-

The overall experience was a positive one

TIP: Be sure to visit the bar at the All Star Music and say hello
to Gaston, yes Gaston is his name one of the bartenders if he's there.
He works some days, some nights.

interesting review...

and yes, all All-Stars guests can use the pools/amenities at all of the All-Star Resorts

Hi!
We go to Disney World every year but we haven't stayed at Music since '96. Do the rooms have the privacy curtain?

Thanks!
Carla

As an fyi they will try to get out of giving you the refund. My experience (and I have sense heard from other posters who had the same thing happen) is that they will ask you if you would like to move to a preferred room if one opens up. If you refuse, as I did, they take that to mean they don't have to refund you the extra cost of the preferred room. I sent an e-mail once I returned home, and after a couple of phone calls from someone who listened to my story, I got the extra money back. They made me work for it.

I will say too that that whole experience has permanently changed how I view Disney and how they treat guests. And not for the good.

Just an FYI back, none of the Cast Members (not even the managers) at the Front Desk have any motive whatsoever to cheat you out of your money back, if you are asked to downgrade to a Standard room.

The system is setup in such a way that the second your room is changed from Preferred to Standard, the refund automatically is given to the Guest.

It is entirely possible that the Cast Member that you interacted with was uninformed, and never told you that this refund was sitting on your hotel folio. (Which, if you had a credit card on file, would be credited back automatically on the day of your check-out.)

Oh: and here is a friendly tip. If you do book preferred, and are asked to downgrade to Standard, just politely ask if there are any other options. In many cases, complimentary upgrades are on hold for Guests who do not wish to downgrade.

I recently booked a 5 day 4 night stay at ASM for the Leap Day Event. I have stayed in The Grand Floridian and the AKL on my previous trips. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on this trip, it was supposed to only be for 2 nights, but I got wind of the buy 3 get the 4th night free sale :)

I figured I have done "the high end" resorts and really only need a clean room to crash after the parks. ASM had the least expensive prices - the Disney Agent checked every value hotel.

I am really looking forward to this trip.. it's the first one I haven't "over planned!"

Hello!!
I wanted to check and see with you guys...what are the standard room buildings and the preferred buildings at all star music...is it just the calypso preferred or is the jazz this year too?

the cm I talked to book told me jazz and calypso were both preferred rooms but everything else I've read says its just calypso...(she also tried to tell me that the bus drop off at the wilderness campground was closer to pioneer hall for the hoop de doo than the boat launch so I just want to double check ;))

Is there a preferred room that you recommend requesting or are they all about the same distance away?

Thanks so much!

The boat launch is MUCH closer to Pioneer Hall for Hoop de Doo- did this last summer. Everything I have read says Calypso is the preferred area - I booked standard and requested Jazz......we are going at the end of March. When are you going? I could let you know when we get back :)

We booked Prefered and when I tried this am to request Calypso, I couldnt. Yes my understanding is it is prefered. Cant wait to find out for sure in 10 days, yup count 'em, 10 days :woohoo::yay:

Enjoy your trip!:hippie:

I know for sure that Calypso is preferred. It is possible that a couple of Jazz rooms based on their close proximity to Calypso are preferred, but not all of Jazz would be preferred.

I have a question about internet connection.. the last reply I found in here was from 2010 and I am hoping for something more recent...

Can anyone tell me what type of connections are in room and if I need a cable or what not? Is there wi-fi in the common areas?

Thanks! :surfweb:

We were there in Dec. No wi-fi in common areas. There is wired hi speed internet in the room which costs $10 for a 24 hour period. No additional cables were needed. Everything was there. This 24 hours starts when you login and finishes 24 hours later.

Thanks! That's what I needed to know! :yay:

When I booked on the phone, I was told that Jazz is split standard/preferred. The man on the phone told me that the rooms at the front of the Jazz buildings are preferred while the rooms in the back are standard.

No...only Calypso is preferred. The confusion from the CM's is nothing new but might come from the family suites being in both Calypso and Jazz.

As far as single rooms the only preferred rooms are in Calypso. We have booked this twice.

We will be checking in tomorrow and staying for the week :) have stayed all over and for the price you can't go wrong with the all stars!! Music is our favorite!!

Is it true that there are never any pins, codes, or discounts offered for the family suites? Even during times like the Wonderful Weeks of Disney?

I am pretty sure if you research enough you can find discount coupons for most occasions. I have sometimes gotten a full package deal where if I do get a suite I get a discounted ticket! :woohoo:

Leaving for a 6 day, 5 night stay at ASMu towards the end of the month.

Our first full day in the parks we have an ADR in Epcot for 8:20 a.m. I called and the rep said we should be ok to get there in time since MK opens at 8 and therefore the buses should start running at 7. Does this sound accurate to those of you who are far more experienced than I am? I understand ASMu is a longer ride to Epcot so I'm a bit concerned. Any help is much appreciated.
