All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

we couldn't eat the pizza - not even DH who will eat crap on a shingle. I took 1 bite, he took 2 bites and we threw the whole thing away.

usually everything closes at 11 except the grill shop and the italian window. then at 11, the grill shop closes (with the burgers , hot dogs, etc.
leaving only the italian one (with the pizzas)open till 12. (and, yes, they have either chicken parmesan or penne pasta)

this irritates the snot out of me.. why not leave the burger/hot dog window open? esp since you know the park is open later, and the food court is going to be "HIT", big time? i understand not having the others open.

I guess their rationale is, "late at night, they'll get pizza"

everyone KNOWs Disney pizza is the worst!!! (I'm from chicago, I know pizza!)

Annoying, yes, but I just needed to know that something will be open so that I don't have to get the kids something at the airport. If we go with our F&W plan we'll be leaving after school on a Friday and landing in Orlando around 8:30-9ish, so by the time we get to the resort it'll be about 10 at best. My kids don't mind Disney pizza (we're from Detroit, the place that gave the world Dominos and Little Caesars; we can embrace bad pizza! ) and DH & I are fine with grab & go options, so that's good enough. I just want to know we'll be able to fill our mugs, grab a little something to fill the gap between an earlier-than-usual dinner and a late bedtime, and get settled in.

We're debating the ASMu suite vs the Ft Wilderness cabin, and the fact that the food service at the Fort all closes by 10 is a big old mark in favor of ASMu.

I just found this thread and haven't had a chance to read it all, but a quick question...does ASMu have a laundry facility and if so where on property is it?
DO they have a change machine in the laundry room and do they have a machine that sells little boxes of laundry detergent or do you have to bring your own with you?

Yes - coin operated laundry facilities are located near both the Piano and Guitar pools. Coin operated washers are $2 per load. Dryers are $2 per load for 30 minutes. There is no option for any additional drying time except to insert another $2.00 for another 30 minutes. Detergents are available for purchase for $1.00 per load. Additionally, laundry bags are available in each room. By completing the attached laundry list and dropping the laundry off at the Lobby Concierge desk by 8:30am, same day laundry/dry cleaning is available. This laundry service is offered 7 days a week, including holidays.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. I had no idea how to find it on my own except to ask here.

We'll be arriving at ASMu in 3 weeks...YAHOO!

Give me the low down on the buses! It's going to be H-O-T and crowded while we are there. We have a rental car reserved, but part of me just doesn't feel like messing with a car. Am I nuts?

When we fly, we don't rent a car and use the Disney buses. When we drive, we use the Disney buses. My dh loves the fact that he can park the car and not drive for our whole trip. Unless you want to go somewhere the Disney buses can't take you, you don't need a car.

You might want to pack your own laundry detergent. The last time we did laundry at the resort, the machines only sold Tide and I am allergic to Tide. My dh did a load of clothes anyway, but I refused to wear them.

The buses are great...if you are using them at peak times they most likely will not be shared. Other off peak times you might share one but in my experience it's not often.

As far as renting a car it is my preferrence when staying at the All Stars. We find that the bus rides are a touch long...not to say that the driving distance is any shorter but it is really nice to save the time spent waiting for a bus. The exception to that is going to MK....always use the bus to go there.

Renting a car or not really is a personal choice and I think if you have never been there or have never rented a car you should try it to be able to compare. We have done both, rented and not rented, many times and in our case we find that a couple of factors make the decision for us. 1...the resort we are at 2...what our vacay plans are. Sometimes we do an R&R trip and mainly stay at the resort other times we are mainly in the parks. We have come to the conclusion that when staying at the All Stars we prefer to have a car...even if for only part of the trip. This year we are staying for 2 weeks at ASMu and will have a car for 7 days in the middle of the trip.

Thanks for your replies! :) We usually stay off site so we always have a rental car. I'm just feeling lazy this trip! :) We are spending the last 3 nights/4 days at the Poly so we definitely won't need it for MK/EP that we have planned on those days. We got a SUPER DUPER cheap minivan so we'll have to think about it more.

I appreciate your replies! :)

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Pop. While there we booked a bounceback for the Wine & Dine 1/2 marathon to take advantage of race transportion.

I know this is a "biased" thread but after many trips to Pop will we like Music?

I can't tell you for sure that you will like it, obviously ;) , but I do think the odds are in your favor. Music has very nice landscaping and a great main pool w/ lots of activities - including movies at night. It will probably feel a bit smaller, because it is. The rooms will feel about the same because now that they have both been refurbished.. I believe they pretty much are the same. I think you will be really pleased with the bus service. Pop is a larger resort than any of the individual All Stars. Yes, the All Stars do share buses from time to time, but not always. I think you will ultimately find the buses to be less crowded, the lines to board will be smaller, and thus your wait time will be less.

The food court has ample offerings and will also probably feel less crowded.

Just my thoughts:goodvibes

Thanks for the info. I thought they still shared buses so that is good to know. So have the rooms been refurbished similiar to Pop?

Re: the week of Thanksgiving for groups at the values. Does anyone know if that is a busy week for the teens? (I know it is busy in the parks Thanksgiving through the weekend, but I'm specifically wondering about the groups I've heard about at the value resorts.) We're looking at getting a family suite at ASMu that week. Thanks!
:goodvibes

We haven't stayed in Music for awhile, but when we stayed at Movies and Pop I used to compare the landscaping to Music since it is much more "green".. Meaning that there are more trees, especially the palm trees around the main pool. I think out of those three, the landscaping is the prettiest. For me, I think the only drawback is that the food court is smaller than Movies or Pop Century, so there are not as many food choices to be had.

This might already be posted somewhere, so I apologize if it's a repeat. We are staying at ASMu Aug. 21-25. Does anyone have any idea of how crowded we should expect it to be? Large groups, etc.?

TIA! :goodvibes

It's low season so it's not that busy. We often visit at the end of August and love it. The only thing is that it is very hot and humid so we make sure to be in the parks before RD and then take an afternoon break. After about 6-7pm you notice a more comfortable temp so it's really nice to be back in the parks at night.

Is all Star Music the most recently renovated of the value resorts? If so - which building was done most recently? If not, do you know which value resort was most recently renovated? Do they all have flat screen TVs now? Going in Sept, booked at All Star Music but was considering switching to All Star Movies. Can you help?

All Star Movies is being rehabbed right now, so their rooms would be the freshest ones.

Do all of the preferred rooms (not suites) have a privacy curtain between the bed and sink area? I remember our Jazz room had a curtain.

Unless they've added them in the past 6 months to the other buildings, Calypso and Jazz are the only buildings at ASMu with the curtains.

EDIT: After reading your post again, yes all the preferred rooms have the curtain.

Not sure when all of All Star Movies is going to be finished w/ refurb, but it is being done now. Music was very nice when we stayed there last year. I think you'll be fine either way. If you do switch to Movies you may not be guaranteed a refurbed room, even if you request one.
