All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Are any of the activities offered at ASMu geared towards toddlers or are they mostly for older kids & teens? We are considering staying here in January w/ my in-laws and they might stick around the room for a day with our DD2 while my DH and I enjoy a day at a park on our own. I think I read that there is a playground near the Jazz Building but I am wondering if there will be anything else to keep her entertained if the weather isn't nice enough for swimming.

On our trip last fall, DS9 and DD6 loved the poolside activities. There were a few things that I saw toddler age kids doing but mostly the kids were a little older than that. I would say your DD will probably be a little young for most of the things.

I know there are still connecting rooms at ASMu but are there any connecting standard rooms in Jazz. I requested "Connecting rooms, Jazz section" but now I'm wondering if any still exist.
I would guess no. On a floor plan layout I saw each floor of the AS buildings have 32 connecting rooms-half of the rooms. That would allow for 16 suites on each floor. There are 3 floors in each building so 48 per building. The suites are in 4 building. There are 192 suites so they would have used all the connecting rooms in those 4 buildings to create the 192 suites.

Your IL's could take your DD over to ASMo to check out all the icons there. I'm sure she would love seeing all of those.

Yeah, that makes sense. That's what I thought. Thanks.

OK, good to know. I figured as much but thought I would double check.

Good idea! We might end up switching to that one just for that reason.

The DVC resorts have Community Halls. Our 4yo niece spent hours colouring in there.

Where did you see this map?

We liked it a lot. Our room reservation requests weren't met (no biggie - start of free dining) so we were way in the back in Country Fair.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but in the Country buildings if you are in 5 facing the swampland at night there is a WEIRD choir of some sort of frog/insect that is loud enough to keep you awake at night! We found it pretty funny overall since we are really heavy sleepers, but I thought it was something to mention :lmao: I've never heard a sound/noise like it!

LONG walk to the lobby/front building but a really REALLY quiet area. :thumbsup2

However, next time we're staying preferred near the lobby. Since the walk was so long we didn't use our refillable mugs enough :lmao:

Funny....when we were there last year I requested Jazz (I was being cheap and didn't pay for preferred) and they put us in Country Fair. Well, when I saw that I freaked a little. I explained that I have bad knees and that it would be really helpful if we could be in Jazz. The CM moved us to Jazz...no problem. When we were walking around the resort and saw exactly how far CF was I didn't think it was that bad but I will admitt that the walk for coffee from Jazz seemed long some mornings. DH and I agreed that we want to stay at ASMu again but we will FOR SURE pay for preferred.

I did the online checkin and they forgot to check us in. When I got there we had no room assignment...they tried to put us in CF...I asked for Jazz and they said I couldn't have it because it is preferred. We ended up in Broadway way in the back by the parking lot. The walk was pretty far, but it was quiet and we got used to it...I was a little disappointed though. I think you were lucky that they put you in Jazz.

Jazz is not preffered only Calypso. It all comes down to what is available. I had also done the online check in and won't again because up to that visit I had always gotten my requests. Actually, our package was not ready at the online counter the CM had to go and print it so she did that and then had to make another one for the new room.

I hear different things on this all the time. Some say just Calypso is preferred others say it is both Calypso & Jazz. I wanted Jazz because we had stayed in Broadway before...oh well we survived. LOL!!! :goodvibes

We want quiet, so I requested Country Fair. Being close to the main hall has NO appeal to me. Glad we could help everyone out by filling those "far off rooms"!

I always heard it was only Calypso too that was preferred. I hope so because we paid for preferred and want to be closest to the main buidling and I just assumed we would be put in Calypso somewhere. :)

Calypso and Jazz are preferred I was told in check in. Some of Jazz isn't but only a small portion. When I booked my travel agent called and requested close to lobby for me for mobility problems, a medical fridge and ground floor. When we did online check in I requested the same. I also faxed them 7 days out. None were met. They couldn't move me either, fully booked - the could move me for the last night only!

I did get my medical fridge, and the manager said they could give me a coffee pot and some coffee for our first night since we had to get up at 3am and to make up for it. And with everything going on and us being distracted by anything shiny (or Disney - kind of like Doug from Up and squirrels) we forgot about it and never got that either.

Next time I am paying preferred. When you have some funky mobility problems to start with that is one freaking long walk. My athletic daughter hated the walk. My 10 year old spent each one swimming through all three pools on the way so she quite liked it :thumbsup2

My new husband went for coffee each day for us and with the walk there and back plus the morning food court crowds he was gone for about 30-40 minutes.

Country Fair is good for people who want to be close to parking or want the quiet though!

But WOW did I love the food at the food court!! AMAZING food for counter service!

Yep, I've requested Country Fair too.

We have mobility issues too, but, my DW uses a wheelchair or an ECV to deal with the amount of walking at WDW. She often walks at the resort though in order to get in some exercise.

I will say that after spending ONE morning at the food court during the breakfast rush it's not something I plan to repeat, though.

We are going to Disney in 25 days and will be staying here. But I have a question.. Does anyone know if they carry lactaid brand milk in the food court?

I don't believe they have lactaid, but they should have soy milk. Most food courts have soy milk available...possibly rice milk. Every counter service on property has a notebook that lists all ingredients and the chefs at the table service locations can accommodate just about any dietary needs. I avoid dairy and they have been extremely helpful. Wish I could eat at Disney every day!

Someone was asking about a map showing the suites and reg room layout....I have no map and have never seen one with that on it but this might help a tiny bit.

Calypso
#1--32 suites...this leaves 128 reg rooms
#10--54 suites....84 reg rooms

Jazz
#2--52 suites...88 reg rooms
#9--54 suites...84 reg rooms

Also, further to the discussion about Jazz being preferred. It is not possible because all the value resorts have designated the preferred rooms to be within 500 ft of the main building. Jazz is beyond that. We all know how misinformed many of the CM's are. I certainly put more trust in the knowlegde of the Dis'ers and AllEars.

We stayed in Jazz in 2 of our last 3 visits to ASMu and it was not preferred (and we were in the closest to Calypso that you could be!) I remember mentioning it to my husband how the rooms just across were 15 more per night!
