All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Anyone know what time CM's do activities with the guest by the pool?

Starts everyday at 2pm....they turn on the music a bit earlier. They have a sign between the pool and food court that has the days activities listed with times.

We do basic tixs, our AK day since that park closes early we are planning to relax at the pool & enjoy the outdoor movie :thumbsup2

I'm actually just as excited about that as the rest of our trip :lmao:

I hope it's a good one that night!

We are CBR lovers all the way but are going to book a stay at one of the values so we can save money. (Our daughter is getting married in August and the extra $700 will come in handy.) One of the things we like at the CBR are the alcoves and sitting areas on the resort grounds. Are there outside sitting areas at All Star Music?

Generally, what times do the activities happen at the poolside? Is there anything neat going on in the later evening?

Last August it seems like games started around mid afternoon. In the evenings, after it got dark they would blow up a giant movie screen and show a different movie each night. One night I plopped myself down in one of the pool chaise loungers with a giant diet coke and watched Ratatouille while my DH watched the news (slept). I loved it.

I think have made my decision about where to stay on our next trip in Jan/11. I think the family suites at ASMu will suit our needs perfectly. We are doing a girls weekend and there will be four of us. It would be uncomfortable for us to sleep in just 2 double beds. We could get two rooms but I love the idea of having the kitchenette. Also, ASMu is the only value that I have never stayed at. I have done Pop 3x, ASSp 2x, and ASMo once. After reading all the glowing reports, I am really looking forward to checking out this resort.

Hi! Well, we are thinking of trying Asmu when we go to disney in Jan to save a bit on costs. We've always done CBR, except last Jan when I surprised DD with POFQ. She suggested it for a change and I said no at first but then surprised her. It was okay but it just never clicked with us. We were planning on going back to CBR, but I'm considering trying a value resort, this one in particular, or maybe Asmo. I'm trying to read through this thread but it will take a while to get through and I'm sorry, I'm impatient and I already have questions, lol! Plus, starting at the beginning, that goes back a few years and isn't very current, so I'm going backwards, lol!

I saw someone mention Calypso section, and getting preferred rooms. I think this is the section we'd like, at least remind us a tiny bit of something caribbean, lol! Is this whole section preferred? And what makes the preferred part(s) preferred? I guess preferred here would still be a bit less expensive than CBR.

I will say we don't care about being close to any pools or the food court. I've got some very bad knees and try to eliminate any extra walking whenever possible so I plan to request as close to bus as I can get. Could anyone tell me which building would be best and which rooms would be best to request? (Or does one of the other values have rooms much closer to buses, which is best?) We used to stay in Trinidad at CBR right at the bus stop, but know these aren't anything like that. Also, I do know I;m not guaranteed requests but, I've also had very, very good luck getting whatever we requested the past, though again, know I may not get. But, I'd still like to try. How many levels are there and is it stairs only or also an elevator? Though I will request a ground floor room.

How are the buses? Is it usually a long wait and are they usually jam packed, particularly at night? We'll not being going out early, and will be getting back late most nights.

How is the food court, good food? Don't recall reading much about it actually. And is it sort of in between rooms and bus area?

I always thought I read more people favored Pop, but why would you favor Music instead? Also, is this smaller than the other values?

Okay, phew, meant to just type a quick few questions, lol! Hopefully some will have some answers for me, and I haven't annoyed you all too much! I appreciate anyone who can help me out with figuring some of this stuff out! :goodvibes

A couple of spots come to mind.
Half way between the guitar and piano pools is a nice fountain with benches around it. Be warned though, it does see a fair amount of foot traffic.
The other area is the piano pool. Plenty of chaise-lounges and a few tables with umbrellas. The piano pool is quiet with relaxing music piped in. I did laundry one day (it's by the pool) and the pool was empty... very nice. :surfweb:

Preferred is closer to the main pool which is to the front of the resort and main building. It is basically the first two buildings on either side of the resort and rooms facing the pool. The resort is in an elongated line with buildings on either side of the central area that has gardens and pools. The bus stop is out in front of the building so preferred places you closer to the main building and bus stops as well as the pools.

The bus service has always been good for us. It is crowded at times but not any more so than any other resort. It depends on when you will be using the bus. Headed to rope drop and coming home at park close are very busy and crowded. That is the same for all resorts.

The food court is good....not great....it is a cafeteria style setting to me. It can be loud and busy.

The All Stars are all about the same size. I think Pop is a bit bigger in rooms per resort.

There are usually more groups at the budgets. That means lots of kids and lots of noise. Some are not chaperoned quite as well as we would like. It is a fun and lively resort. It is clean. We have had two great stays at ASMU. We have since gone to POFQ and really like that better now. I have nothing really bad to say about the All Stars though. It is a great place to stay especially when your kids are very young.

You and I are in the same boat. We would love to go back to the CBR but are trying to pinch pennies next trip (so we can add an extra day and save money for our daughter's wedding). Thanks for asking your questions and voices your concerns as everything you asked are things that I am wondering about too.

Thanks so much! We are used to spending an afternoon at the resort and relaxing. It was easy to do that at the CBR because they have the beaches and sitting areas.

Had a WONDERFUL trip. We were in JAZZ section 9, second floor.

We heard showers, toliets, slamming doors & foot traffic outside our room :lmao: but we were so darn tired every night it didn't really bother us. We were around the corner from the ice & pop machines & around the corner from that was the elevators so maybe that's why we heard more noise :confused3 Really, it didn't bother us. We felt the convenience of being reasonably close to the food court & in between the 2 pools was worth it.

Our room was modestly small but the beds were quite comfortable. We had a privacy curtain between the bedroom & vanity sink area which was very nice. Mousekeeping woke us a couple mornings because we forgot to put up a do not disturb  but they left towel animals every day, plenty of towels to use for the pool, soap & shampoo. They evey arranged towels at the sink for us to position our toothbrush holders which was nicer than sitting them in a plastic cup.

My DS loved the burgers at the food court. We liked having the refillable mugs - the coffee was awful but it had caffine :rotfl: Food court is somewhat slow but they prepare your food fresh which was nice. All the CM's were very helpful & pleasant. Can't say enough nice things about the ASMusic. We would definately stay there again.

Daily pool activities started about 2pm. The day we did AK we got back in time to settle into a lounge chair & watch the 9pm movie "Alice in Wonderland" which I had not seen the new release of so that was rather pleasant.

The laundry area also has restrooms with lockers & showers to use on arrival or departure day if you find yourself without a room for a few hours. We preferred the noisy guitar pool but liked the piano pool for sunbathing one afternoon. The landscaping is really so lovely there.

BUS SERVICE was really good IMO! We went to parks 8 days. I think twice we had to wait a little more than 20 minutes. Once for MK going back in the afternoon about 4pm, the other time going back to DHS about 2pm. I saw regular buses going to all 4 parks AND the water parks, DTD and even the ESPN wide world of sports.

But generally speaking we would walk up & a bus would arrive within minutes & on average about 10. So maybe we just had extra pixie dust following us around but bus service was right on! During our visit, buses were shared & stopped first at sports, we were next & movies last. Very early & very late people would stand on the bus. Other times it seemed everyone had a seat.

When we stayed for EMH &/or night shows, they worked hard at getting buses to the stops so that lines didn't accumlutate. Again, when it was that buzy, people did stand but they busted their tails to get everyone "home" with minimal wait. On really buzy nights, they would dedicate a bus to only 1 resort. Specifically I recall this happening after Illuminations. Music had its own bus.

One last bus comment, we ate at Tusker House one night, meal ended after AK closed. They were waiting for us to send us home on a multi-resort bus home. Didn't even wait a minute to get a seat on the bus.

LOVED staying at ASMusic :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for the great review Twiddle!!! It's making me even more excited to stay there at Christmas!!!
