All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Kath1210: Thank you so much. I could not imagine them not having connecting rooms. It is a difference of over $300 because we are staying for 2 weeks. I guess we can sleep on it but my thinking is they are getting commission because she pushed a couple of things. I felt this was a much harder "sell" than I am used to when booking Disney vacations. I am so happy I can come here and get honest answers.:goodvibes

Yes, they resorts are all close enough to walk from one to another. You can also use the pools and food courts at all 3 All-Star resorts.

That's great that you are able to use the other food courts as well. I'm sure we'll try out the other one's during our stay. Thank you!

Yes, there are no towels at the pool. You need to use the ones from your room, and call Mousekeeping for more. However, they sometimes leave a big cart full of towels on the 1st floor near the elevators, and people just help themselves.

Well, this has typically been true at the value resorts, but, when we were at ASMu in September there were towels available at the main pool. It seemed like it would be a lot less work for housekeeping to make towels easily available rather than to have to keep delivering extras.

I agree, but I figured it was a way to get extra tips! :rotfl:

My family and I are booked for 10 nights at ASMu family suite...can anyone tell me about it?? compared to a villa???

It's a little more no-frills than a villa, but exceptionally nice place to stay nonetheless. Queen bed in the master bedroom, a small kitchenette area with a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee pot, and all the pull-outs in the living room area. Very comfortable for a family. Two bathrooms is a HUGE plus as well!

Enjoy your stay!

There were towels at the Calypso pool in November, I was surprised to see them since we've stayed at ASMo and Pop before and they didn't have them. They were beside the towel returns.

Just got back last night. Loved the ASMu fam suite. It is indeed very comfortable. Even for a value resort, it exceeded my expectation. The crew were very welcoming. Lots of the crew I met were fellow NYorkers and we hit it off wonderfully. although Im thinking of the Poly next trip, ASMu rocks!

And there are bins of towels for the pool and a drop off bin for your wet towels. FREE life jackets for the little ones in another bin - just grab one and head to the pool. Have fun!

That's nice to know, thanks!

Hey guys and gals! We are currently booked for a ten day stay at Pop Century. We normally stay at the CBR and have never stayed at a value resort.

We visited Pop during our 2008 CBR stay just to see what the resort was like. Well, I know this sounds crazy but I wish we hadn't gone to Pop. I feel like some of the magic and excitement of pulling into a resort for the very first time is gone. So, we are now considering a possible stay at one of the value resorts.

I have a few questions:

1) I've read that the three All Star resorts share a bus system. How does that work? Does it take long to reach the theme parks?

2) How's the food court? We won't be eating at the food court every day but I we do like to eat a meal or two there.

3) How's the storage room in the rooms? We will be there for 10 days/9 nights and I refuse to do laundry while there so we'll have a good bit of luggage.

4) We like to spend a down day at the resort. What are some things to do around the resort?

I appreciate your help in my decision making process.

I can only speak for Music...but, we love it! We have stayed 3 times and have never been disappointed.

As for sharing the buses. I have never seen that, but have heard that they sometimes share during really slow periods.

Food court is good. Pretty typical food court fare, but very good and by Disney standards not too pricey.

There are some very fun pool activities by the Calypso pool in the afternoons. Games, bingo, and that sort of thing. At night, they show movies by the pool also.

Over all, the All Star Movies is a great place for the family. I don't thing you'd regret staying there at all.

Have a great time.

Are your park tickets from the 7-18 or are they on 2 different reservations?

Sorry I took so long to get back to you - I was at ASMusic :cool1:

The park tickets, gift card, etc. that come with the 4/3 package all kicked in on the 11th ie the first day of our stay on the 4/3 package. And if we had done QSDP with the package, we would not have gotten the refillable mugs until that date either.

We just got back last night, so here's my answers to your questions:
1) We never actually did the bus sharing -- at the times that we took the buses, they always went straight to/from ASMusic, even in mid-afternoon

2) the food court was good. From what I understand, there must be more variety in the kids' meals at the value resorts. My daughter likes the kids' turkey dinner. The kids' menu is different at lunch and dinner times. The adults' menus are basically the same, but the dinner entree includes a salad (which you don't have to buy if you don't want to)

3) We actually need a lot of storage space when we go -- all of our suitcases, plus laundry and my daughter's sport equipment goes in the closet area.

4) Depending on the age of your kids, they might enjoy doing the activities by the pool. Since the parks were closing earlier when we were there, we watched the movie by the pool most nights (you don't have to be in the pool to see it, most people pulled up a lounge chair) We liked this a lot, since the Calypso pool is close to the bar area and we were able to have some adult time while keeping an eye on my daughter by picking our seats strategically.

I have to say one of the things I most enjoyed this year was the "Changing of the Guard" (when the life guard shifts change) At 4:15 everyday, they all get up and dance.

I can't give you a comparison to Pop, since I have only just visited that resort myself.

Good luck :goodvibes

:) Well, we finally managed to change our resort from All Star Movies to Music. Thrilled to be able to stay at Music again! Still hoping for a 40% discount or Free Dining. We'll take whichever comes our way! :cool1:

redrosesis - Thanks for the report.
We are staring at the suites in June and cant wait. I usually rent an ECV from Scooter Mobility for our trips because I thought the buses were share and I did not want to have to wait for many buses to pass before I could get on. I was going to take my chances and get an EVC each day at the parks. I am so happy to hear that the buses are not shared. I will be able to place my order for an EVC and save $ to spend on my grandchildren.

Hello! We booked a trip to All Star Music for August. We stayed at Disney's Pop Century last August for our very first trip! My husband wanted to go back to Pop Century, but I wanted to try a new hotel. I just found this blog last week and I found this thread today.
