All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Yes, you can purchase Disney Dinning if you stay in ANY room at a WDW Resort.

We were at the ASMu at the end of September and they did show a movie every evening.

And which are the preferred rooms at asmu?

Calipso and that is just because they are closer to the buses and food court and just next to the main pool. Jazz is the next closest section and not that much further away. We actually stayed there a few weeks ago in the section right next to the Calipso rooms for $10 less per night. The rooms are ALL the same, except for the privacy curtains (a curtain between the sink area and bed area) that are in Jazz and Calipso.

Ok, so I just changed our reservation to all star music, they charged me for a preferred room even though I requested broadway? Is that correct?

Broadway is NOT a preferred section. Usually requests for a section, with the exception of the preferred rooms, are not guaranteed just noted. Maybe only preferred rooms are left, I don't know. I would call back to see if you can just get a regular room.

That's ok...my only thought is, if I keep it as preferred and they put me in broadway, will I get credited? Maybe I should just keep it as preferred....

I don't know what they will do since you tried to book a regular room and they gave a preferred. I would ask for a credit if you are in any section but Calipso. Calipso is the ONLY preferred section at Music.

We will be staying in a Family Suite for our vacation starting Nov. 9th. I just called the resort to ask if the family suites have paper plates, paper bowls, plastic utensils, and paper cups. The CM at the front desk told me no. He said they do not supply any of these items. He said they may leave a couple cups by the coffee maker for coffee, but that's all. I just wanted to let others know this. I thought they did provide these, but I guess I had that wrong.

We're staying in one in January and we heard they provided paper goods, too. I wonder if that's a recent change. I think they were just the paper goods from the food court - maybe you could go get a handful of everything there.

I got a great deal at a Pfaltzgraff outlet on a service for 4 Yorktowne Melamine set, so we get dinner and salad plates, bowls and mugs. Cost around $4.00. We're driving so we have room to take it with us.

Come back and let us know how the suite was! Have a great time.

We just got back from staying in the Suites two weeks ago. When we arrived there were coffee cups, regular cups, plates, cereal bowls, plastic knives, forks, and spoons. However, we had a heck of a time getting them replaced. I figured they would be replaced automatically, not the case! I wrote them notes but it didn't do any good, they must not have understood what I needed. I ended up having to call each evening when we arrived back to the room to get more of what we needed (mostly bowls). After about the 4th call and them bringing the wrong items we requested, I think the same lady was a little bothered by me calling all the time and brought me a ton of bowls, plates, and coffee cups. They lasted through the rest of our stay. ;) I just assumed this was part of the suites and they would be replaced daily, guess I was wrong!

Maybe the plates, bowls, knives, etc. had been left by the previous guest and therefore you had a difficult time getting them replaced?

We stayed an a suite for 2 weeks in August and there were paper goods-paper towels-roll on the rack and an extra one on the shelf, paper plates, paper bowls, and plastic silverwear wrapped in plastic-so not like the food court. Sometimes they would replenish the items but not everyday.

I am so excited to read this thread. We are leaving Wed and heading to ASMusic!!!!!!

One question I can find out the answer too is do they have VCR's in the room? TIA:)

Also, Is the Food Court 24hrs?

No there are no VCR's in the standard/preferred rooms. I am not sure about the suite's but I presume not.

We are currently booked at GF however we've been looking at some other options to save $$ and one thing we are looking into is the ASMu suites. Can anyone tell me what building they are in? We are waiting for the discount codes to come out before making the final decision. With two preschoolers we felt the monorail was important but with the economy in the shape its in we are just trying to figure out if GF is really going to be worth the $$ in the long run. We are also looking at CSR since it has queen beds now however the suite would provide us with so much more room which is what is important to us (along with the bed size :rotfl: ). I think our kids would love ASMu also. Any info on the suites...good or bad I'd love to hear. I have only made it through part of this faq thread and I'll keep reading to get more info!

The Family Suites are in Calypso and Jazz. I think that preschoolers would love ASMu since the theming is done to a scale that they can recognize. I'd also think that with preschoolers, the food court layout at ASMu would be preferable to the Pepper Market where they seat you and you have to keep going back for your food. (You should probably keep in mind that, I've never been a monorail fanatic...sure, you get to the MK faster, but, EP is slower and you end up sharing a bus with several resorts for DHS and AK.)

We're DVC members and yet we've stayed at ASMu twice in recent years...it's a good resort, in my opinion.

Thanks for your response. We are definitely considering the suite. We'll have a vehicle with us so we won't even be using the bus service. Mainly all of our ADRs are in the deluxe monorail area and we were planning on spending the most time at MK and Epcot this trip so that is why we chose a monorail resort. I know our kids would love the theming better at one of the values but my dh preferred staying closer to the MK and in a bigger room. He never considered the suite until I pointed it out to him :rolleyes1 I think our kids would eat the food at the value food courts better than at pepper market as well...they are kind of picky :rolleyes1
We like the fact that the deluxes have balconies although it will be in January so I don't know how much we'd use it. My AAA agent told the new discount codes are coming next week so we aren't making any final decisions until then.
Thanks for your help!

Well, it's a done deal, finally we get a chance to stay at The ASMu, we're going next month for MVMCP. We've stayed at POP and ASMo, but the kids wanted to try something new, being we all love music, thought this would be the best bet! From what I've read and heard I think we made a great choice!:)
Did I read somewhere that the piano pool is under construction?? Oh well if it is there is always the other one. Besides here in Florida we can never tell how the weather will be from one day to the next, so I'm not going to count on swimming, but it will be a plus if the weather is right!

Are there hairdryers in the rooms? I read that they had to be requested. Is that true?

I asked this as a separate thread, but should have asked here. Are there coffee-makers in the room? I thought I read answers both ways on that one.

Thanks! (and Happy Halloween!)
