All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

I do wish that they informed guests that this was upcoming....Atleast with a pool refurbishment they let you know.

Given that they usually provide advance notice, I'm guessing that something happened such that they had no choice but to begin an immediate rehab.

I just returned from ASMu for the first time. We were in a family suite from 8/14 to 8/28. I LOVED the set up of the suites but wasn't crazy about the resort and am not sure if it was mostly due to the construction or if I just prefer Pop better. The selections at the food court seemed very limited. We did walk over to ASMo one night and they seemed to offer more-at least different-they had a child's hot dog meal and child's grilled cheese.

The "construction" is just a floor replacement so nothing too exciting. I did complain to a manager and asked why they couldn't wait til a less busy time and she said "there is no slow time anymore". She pretty much told me I was "lucky" to be there during a tropical storm and having to walk all the way around the building to get to the bus stop or front desk or gift shop because the next phase would be cutting off the rest rooms in that building. I told them I had a friend going in 2 weeks and they said it wouldn't be completed. I never received any notice in my room about it.

I had asked to speak to a manager because my friend who I traveling with came back from the resort one day to find his room door propped open with the latch. He wouldn't tell the front desk what room he was in because he works for a hotel and didn't want to "rat out" the housekeeper. I asked to talked to a manager when I came back from the parks 2 days later with my room door not propped opened but not locked shut-so you couldn't see that the door was open walking by but we still weren't happy to find our door unlocked.

I really like that at Pop all the food is in the food court. I didn't like that at ASMu I could only buy a little carton of milk in the food court. If I wanted a pint I had to buy it in the gift shop and on this trip that meant walking all the way around the building-and waiting in line again to pay.

I was in Jazz building 9 3rd floor. It was a nice quiet location and close the main building and close to both pools.

I did think it was pretty obnoxious that they blocked off the interior walkway through the cafe to the lobby and the buses DURING A TROPICAL STORM!!! Earlier in the week (when it was dry) there was access, but couldn't they have waited a couple of days before blocking the access? Buses for the most part were prompt and efficient, but one morning we had a 7:30 breakfast reservation at the Kona, and the bus to MK took 40 minutes to arrive. In retrospect, should have complained to the front desk, but nobody wanted to go in and risk missing the bus.
I agree 100%. Why couldn't they wait a day or 2???? I was talking to a guy in the fast past line at Toy Story Mania one moring who happened to be a CM. I forget what his title was but he said his job was to make sure guests have good resort experiences so I asked him why they didn't wait a day or 2 and he said that it was hurricane season so there might be another one on its way and that they were on a tight schedule. He did say I should have received notice in my room.

I also had 40+ minute waits for early morning breakfast reservations at CP & CM. There are 5 character breakfast meals in the MK area (CP, CM, OHana, CRT, 1900 PF) plus other meals like Kona and Grand Floridian Cafe and yet both times I would see 2 busses for DHS, AK, and Epcot (with far fewer breakfast options) before 1 would come for MK. I wonder if the bus got full at ASSP and didn't stop at ASMu?

Hi all,

Does anyone (or Linda :) ) know if any of the suites have this setup, with the booth type seating and table? This photo is from AllEars.

This was a "model", and it looks like they took out one bathroom and made the dining room area.

Just wondering - if it's there, we may want to request this.

Thanks,
I did NOT have that set up.

I don't like the sound of "cutting off the restrooms." Surely they will have some restrooms in the main building that are open to the public, right?! Our plane lands at 8:40 AM, and I don't expect our room to be ready at our arrival time, but there should be restroom facilities for us to use at check in. :confused3

I've been so looking forward to giving AS Music a try, but the renovations do sound like they've been a damper (no weather pun intended) on everyone's stay. I sure hope we won't have to walk all the way around the building next week. Thank you for the construction update!

I'm sorry about having the room door open upon your return. This happened to us at POR once and it's unnerving to know that anyone could have walked into your room.

I think you'll have to use the facilities at the pool instead which wouldn't be too far from the main building. I'm not sure how much of the floor they are doing-they hadn't started the inside of the food court where you order the food-don't know if/how they would do that. Don't know if they are going to do the front desk area or not.

You're right in that we could always use the pool facilities if needed. As long as there are public facilities, that would be OK. :)

Whatever the extent of the renovations are, we'll still be happy to be at Disney!

Seems like the rehab is being done in stages/phases. Does anyone know when ALL of it will be completed?? It'll be a few months before our trip but like all of you, I'm concerned about the construction affecting it. Will someone who is scheduled to go soon, be able to find out for the rest of us? Thanks a bunch!

After reading some reviews of this resort i'm a little wary. I hear there are a lot of bed bugs and mold. I don't think I can handle that

Perhaps we've just been lucky, but we have stayed at ASMusic at least 12 times, and have never encoutered bugs (of any kind) or mold. Our rooms have always been very clean and comfortable.

Maybe those were just isolated incidents XD The pictures looked alright

Where did you read about bedbugs and mold at All Star Music?
You are correct it must have been isolated incidents.

I have never encontered or read about bedbugs or mold at All Star Music.
All of the rooms have been recenty (2006-2007) refurbished. Walls were painted, new carpet installed, all new furniture, new beds and bedbedspreads, new curtains, and new shower curtains with the new curved curtain rod for elbow room were part of the reburbishment.

Just my 2 cents.

I was on the Disney website checking our flight number and just looking into the hotel a little more (deciding whether or not to get a rental car) and I saw a hotel review thing on the side of the page so I decided to read some of them. Some said they had a great time and then a few were very nasty. One woman said the bed bugs were so bad she had to go to the hospital! Now, whether she was being dramatic I don't know but it just kind of freaked me out XD

I thought I read that ASMovies had bedbugs last year, no ASMusic. I could be wrong though.

Well, we just got home an hour ago from ASMusic! The rehab is nothing more than a pain-in-the-you-know-what!! Nothing major, just annoying. We were there from the 20th to this morning & they had closed off the hallway leading from the check in to the restaurant which meant you had to walk around the outside of the building which was annoying, especially when raining, which was most of the last the twelve days!!

Washrooms in the check in area were open btw but they were not always very well cleaned.

No bed bugs or mold....though I was surprised to hear that it was relatively newly renovated as it appeared a little "dated" to me. I did see quite a few new matresses being brought in to our area on two different days as well so I don't know if that means anything.

I personally did not really like ASMusic....it was OK....housekeeping was OK...check in day found a pubic hair on the floor of the bathroom...kind of a turn off! Beds were made, sink, toilet, bathtub wiped down daily but not much else. A couple of days they forget to leave us soap & shampoo...I mean NONE! We did get two towel animals though & extra towels were left when requested.

I found the walkways dirty as well as the door leading to our hotel room...filthy! Our area was painted light blue & baby pink so finger prints & dirt really stood out.

I had small problems with a check-in CM; a person at Conceirage & a person at baggage/flight check in this morning...all with inaccurate information...I think ASMusic might want to better train some of their employees so as not to mis-lead their guests or waste their time. Of course, we were there twelve days...you are bound to run into some employees who might not care or who are new to the motel.

We bought the refillable cup & felt we got our money out of it but it is discouraging when you see LOTS of other people re-fill whatever they decide to bring with them! I guess next time I'll just bring a coffee mug from home & save me another $14 per person.

The buses are pretty bad. We waited for three buses at Pleasure Island because they all arrived full & could not take on any more passangers (why come than?). We stood up about 1/2 the time on our rides & the other 1/2 we braved the stares of those unfortunate souls who had to stand while we sat!! Yuck!

There were a lot of young (high school) teams there...basketball, cheerleaders, etc...but really, they were very good (though they may not have been in my section!)

I never heard my neighbors but you do hear toilet flushings in the middle of the night from upstairs!! That & sinks running...really bad! If you are a light sleeper, it will probably keep you awake much of the night.

It is a value...dont' expect too much. We did decide to book the bounce back but will give either POP a try next year or go back to CSR which is our favorite!

Thank you for your review! I'm going to hope for the best as far as mousekeeping goes. I'm sorry to hear that yours didn't clean all that well.

I requested a 3rd floor room and hope we get it. I think that the upper level rooms are quieter than the lower level, though it's luck of the draw with noise when it comes to who your neighbors are. It's good to hear that the groups were well behaved!

Thanks for the update on the rehab information.

We just returned from a stay at ASMu from 8/23-8/29 and didn't have any real issues with mousekeeping, except for one day they didn't leave any cups in the room and the toilet wasn't flushing properly, but it was promptly fixed after we reported it. We stayed the Jazz bldg 9 on third floor and didn't have any noise problems. The only effect the construction had was that we had to walk around the outside of the building to go between the food court or arcade to get to the lobby. My kids were happy that the arcade was open, because someone had previously reported that it was closed. We found the grounds to be clean and didn't have any issues with any dirty areas. We rented a car so don't know about the buses. We had never stayed in a value hotel before (usually stayed in deluxe hotels) but for the price ($65 per night) it was worth it because we were hardly in the room,.

Thanks for the review!! Hmm, this does not seem fair for those who paid extra $$ to be in Perferred View rooms if they have to walk all the way around the building to get into food court. Good thing i got standard!!!

Hopefully it will be all done when we check in on the 13th...:goodvibes

Is the ASMU stands for All-Star Music! But i don't know do you know any website to the All-star Music!

Guests in prefered rooms would still have an easy walk to the food court. All guests have to walk around the building to get to the bus stops, front dest and gift shop-that was the way it was when I was there on Thursday anyways....
